- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42you people do realize that google has all that stuff some the employees don't have a reason to leave, thus they work all the time
make it so people don't need to go out to lunch and they take shorter lunch breaks. Same with shops in the building, or dry cleaners on site, doctors, etc, etc. This has been done for a while with good cafeterias however google takes it the extreme. It may look fun, but I bet everyone there works long hours and has no life outside of work - jmann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35Did you miss the Sushi-station, candy store, bouncy balls, and the gaming room?
- CodyBrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29I honestly expected a little more.
Seemed like a typical office, just with more primary colors. - fuxjoey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32This office doesn't look as fun.
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Next time the boss asks me how I think the company can be improved, I'll say bouncy balls and candy.
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24"i want to see a tour of the Digg office"
Instead of Candy stores, Bouncy balls, and scooters, they have Lawn Chairs and a cooler full of Beer. - OneManArmy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Well, it definitely looks WAY better than mine. Heck, they even have Guitar Hero in the Gaming room!
- simplenation, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24i want to see a tour of the Digg office
- andrebsd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20O SNAPS! Finally someone who links directly to the story rather than some blog post!
- fishpen0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Hmmm....so basically they sit around and play all day while eating sushi and getting massages....while their fancy new AI system does all the work; slowly learning how to dominate the world.
- n00bst3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14As does any other loser in the world.
- undersky, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17i'd rather go to a non-digg site not reading any comment, than reading useless comments on digg. Of course, reading actually useful comment on digg would be nice.
too bad it's not happening. - jodokast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I'd rather work at Google than stay home confined to a room and visiting porn sites.
- Kranklin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Lol, like pic 16... "Wallet filled with ---cash--- (cache)
- blaze03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Yea, definitely not as cool or impressive as the Mountain View campus.

I'm with you on this one. Not to mention they put all this stuff in there to increase productivity and to keep workers there longer ect. so I would imagine there are quite a few weekend workers and not to mention there is nothing productive about having someone at you desk moving stuff around and disorienting everything. leaving you to play wheres waldo monday morning to find you assorted papers.
just beacuse they did not let you use THEIR office space does not mean they should be smashed for it. - cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I like the vi bashing on the "future engineer". Nice touch. =)
- tektalk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8can't go wrong with the "Don't be evil" bear.
quoted by Sergey Brin himself. - ajcannon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Listen, I'm all for that...I started an internet company in college and did very well with it. But you have to realize that the type of work involved is not for everyone. Some people like to go to work from 9-5 and not think about it after that. Try owning your on business and then trying to "forget" about it on the weekends. It's not going to happen.
-ajcannon - deanc, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Yeh well all I know is that when the New York tech community needed a company to step up to the plate and donate some office space for a weekend in order to run BarcampNYC2 Google said no. (http://barcamp.org if you've never heard of the events).
For 3 weeks google were uhmming and ahhing about letting us run the event there but came back with 'insurance' concerns.
At the end of the day you know who came though - Microsoft. Yep you heard it Microsoft.
They allowed 200 people all the facilties and access we needed for 36 hours to run a great event. And to be honest at the end of the event when we were running through the list of people to say thanks to Microsoft got the biggest cheers from 200 open source/ hacking/ anti microsoft people you have ever heard.
Yep Gopogle do no evil bit you on the ass that weekend.
Cheers,
Dean

- mikehooker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6iPhone shuffle - calls friends at random
- uberdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5why do they treat their employees like babies? giant bouncing balls and kick scooters?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The only standout reason Id want to work there - other than the money - is the food and the chefs. I think it looks pretty corny to me. Id expect more for a place in NY. now if they had the japanese massage parlors in the basement and a katz deli sister store on the 2nd floor - thats what I want.
- Hitchhiker90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Let me guess, I'm supposed to be erect by these pics because they have cubicles and walls and its at Google? Sorry to say but no this facility didn't impress me at all. What is the point of having all that ***** laying around if no one was is using it?
- spydrlink, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I was just going to say...look at pic 12: http://www.informationweek.com/galleries/showImage.jhtml?galleryID=4&imageID=12&articleID=197006864. It looks like even GoogleNerds play Tetris during presentations...guess I'm not the only one playing Tetris still
- amthomp2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hm a Sushi bar. I would work weekends for access to free sushi.
- starguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So what does Google produce of value? Food, clothings, bridges, roads? Just a bunch of white guys playing with wires and computers.
- keije, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I love pic 12 :) nice to see there are slackers at almighty Google as well. An author is giving a talk about her book and some kid is using the excuse to play games on his laptop instead of sitting at his desk working or listening to the talk.
I nominate 12 for the Best Picture of the Series award! - Adidas5823, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3isn't he playing snood?
- never102, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3iphone
- freehunter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Good job spamming your blog in your useless post. This isn't about if Google is a good company or not, it is about how nice their offices are. I realize I am comment abusing in my post, but I feel it is worth getting dugg down for to call someone else out.
- bushface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it looks ace, but all the fun rooms were empty! all the staff were in the boring rooms at their computers! they were probably digging.
- Pilgrim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i candy
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4but what you have to ask is.. are they really happy ?....... LOL probley !!!
- awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like how someone wrote in very tiny text: "Writely!" next to all of it.
- johngalt9999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think it is unfair to characterize Google work environment as being juvenile. When I first start working at Google, I notice the office decoration and general space layout really promote an atmosphere of fun and openness. There are Googlees that are brilliant at what they do, and truly passionate with solving issues that are interesting/challenging. So, there is nothing juvenile about working here at Google. I think the decor simply balance out the all too serious tasks of working for a corporation and make it fun again. Oh yeah, 100% of engineers work 60+ hrs and 100% of engineers work less than 30+hrs (100% = individual pace and motivation)
Plus, there is nothing wrong with feeling like preschool. Do you still remember milk + cookies + afternoon nap? Ah... good times - fenris6644, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I gotta say, I'm not that impressed. It looks very juvenile, more like a preschool than a work place. There's a difference between working in a cool, laid-back atmosphere and being treated like an infant. Any idea what the average work-week is like for a Google engineer? Wouldn't be surprised if it was 60+.
- laterallateral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah but, what if these "insurance concerns" were legitimate?
Just wondering... - RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Even still, "original" blog posts are still casted off as "blog spam". Go figure.
- djfreex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I should not have read this one :( I feel sad thinking about my cubicle that I have to go back tomorrow. Where I work is painted gray, no windows and full of cubicle farms that are grey as well. There is no game room. In the lunch room, there are overpriced vending machines full of fattening food, colored water machine (some call this coffee) that costs 35 cents to a dollar to use and there are grey lunch tables.
I dont feel like working after seeing these pictures at all. Only if I would work at a place like this. - Pilgrim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Idigg

ok.. ITS OVER! - laterallateral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Right? cause having hosted an opensource convention would have made their offices SO MUCH more attractive.

- freehunter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2sirdaz... his sig wasn't spam, it wasn't a website not related to the discussion, it wasn't out of place. Just drop it. If he wants to put his name after his post, no harm, no foul. It's only bad form if he is spamming something.
- Homez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Didn't have anything like this back in my day.
- phenom2k7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I would love to work there.
- latca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well at Google you can devote 20% of your working time doing what you want and get paid for it!
