- dareiff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Here's the product page: http://www.ptgrey.com/products/ladybug2/index.asp
And a screencap: http://www.ptgrey.com/products/ladybugSDK/LadybugCap_example.jpg - ygrof, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8What would be super cool (and require A LOT of man hours) would be if they got such extensive video that you could get a video of your route when you searched for directions.
- SamKellett, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Better Microsoft than Google, we know Microsoft is in it for the money -- God knows what Google want to do to us!
- richardiscool, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Just in case Gizmodo folds?
- mapkinase, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It would be more fun to use Googlecopter...
- TheDragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Not quite. The idea is still images through various steps along the way, not full video of a particular route.
Imagine being able to type in your destination, then watch a video of the trip! - TheDragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Outdoor privacy?
I think you're terribly, terribly confused.
Outdoors != private
If it's a place you're not comfortable walking around naked, it's not private. - GoldYoshi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And you call that high tech? As you said, "...limited elevation image with CONSIDERABLE distortion." These are not distorted. Google>You.
- dienaked, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why didn't Google just contract with UPS and some cab and/or freight companies to do this? If it's really that automated, they'd get complete coverage of many more areas much faster than using a few dozen cars. At least I would think so.

People walked in front of the Ladybug Camera..
They all walked into those girly neon places
And the Ladybug Camera saw them come out with smiles on their faces
as they looked in shock at the Ladybug Camera...
** old car horn **... 12! - wvannus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hey. The mount is made from 8020. Yay.
- bloominoctober, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Dugg for the mildly obscure Sesame Street reference.
- theaceoffire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2O.o how much outdoor privacy do you expect?
- givinupthefight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Now you're just being greedy.
- slapthemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Its a bit scary, isn't it?
- bhowell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They both do.
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/battlemodo/microsofts-local-suv-armada-vs-googles-streetview-fleet-283648.php - jeffeb3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2plus, this has a video camera straight up, google street view doesn't have that. And, you can see varying levels of intensity in the street view that would indicate that there are six facets to the camera they use, not 4. I have this strange idea that red paint is more popular than people think...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2soon they will install camera in my WC, nowhere to hide : (

and as i recall from another gizmodo post the company that is doing it is not google but a contractor - Error601, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Quite a spy system there.
- nymbot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ladybug2 Cost: $9,995
- astrotrain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Hopefully more successful then....The Family Guys 'Petercopter'
- northvision, on 06/11/2009, -0/+0Did you see it? The ladybug! Once Ladybug webcam came out on the market, it became the hotest digital now. Some of our clients also order some pcs for reselling but the problem also come. Once the end user lose the driver or reinstalled their pc, they found this ladybug webcam have no driver with the package.
They turned this information to us. And here we got one from the driver's home forum (many thanks to you guys), and the link is: http://www.northvision.com.cn/ladybugwebcamdriver. ... download it and install it to your PC now.
Ladybug webcam driver here!
(Posted by www.northvision.com.cn) - spinjim, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4I have photographed hundreds of QTVR images which are similar to streetview images. If you notice the lens flare in many images, it is curved. That suggest the lens is a fisheye lens.
Here is an example of the flare http://tinyurl.com/2th976
I think this is the equipment used for streetview, because of the wide angle lenses.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bensyverson/524219311/
My other argument is that google is known for using off the shelf equipment ( like all their servers) and this equipment seems to be there thing, not the ladybug.
Digg it up if you agree, down if you don't. - jkizzle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2im not sure these are what are always used...
ive seen a streetview photo that was of a glass building that reflected straight on what took the picture, and it was a black work van with a big thing on top... anyone else seen that photo?
not that they havnt upgraded though - zulhadm, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2um... that's the idea
- dreesemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1While quickly skimming the title, I was expecting to see a picture of a go-jirra-sized lady bug stuck to one of the camera lenses, dominating the urban landscape and all those around it :(
- mcline007, on 11/14/2008, -0/+0Are you out of your mind?
Those camera are nowhere near to webcams. They HD cameras. They have a much higher bad witch rate and resolution that a "webcam". Lady bug 2 costs 10,000 and lady bug 3 20,000.
You ignorant - aquataine, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1http://streetviewr.com
- gavin422, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Am I the only one who thinks vans with multiple cameras on top are scary?
- RTS4, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Here is some pictures of the actual car.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/10103118@N03/ - binaryspiral, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1It's not so much a "spherical camera" as it is a multi directional camera mount. It looks like its packing a trifecta of cheap web cams and a data link. Wooo... high tech.
A spherical camera would have a reflective dome or mirror to allow a single camera to take a 360 limited elevation image with considerable distortion. - degoba, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1This is going to be a sweet project when it is finished.
- WaterDragon, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1And while the criminals in the White house are destroying everyone's indoor privacy, Google is destroying all kinds of outdoor privacy -- for everybody!
Thanks, f**king idiots! - mb3581, on 10/10/2007, -7/+3better Google than Microsoft
- Dunner80, on 10/10/2007, -10/+0Yes on the blending capabilities.
- axisofphilippe, on 10/10/2007, -20/+5But will it blend?

What is Digg?
