- pigfister, on 09/26/2009, -8/+122RE: Lily's assult on her fans, what do you expect she is just a mouth piece for EMI, they probabbly said the reason you don't get much cash from record sales is because of pirates to deflect blame away from them for stealing all her cash.
well thats what you get when you sign to one of the RIAA!
Im certain she does not understand the strangle hold that the majors have over the entire industry but this is no excuse.
lets not for get who is actually behind the MPAA - RIAA, these are the companies that need to be targeted into changing their ways. Don't purchase any RIAA (BPI) affiliated media and avoid as much Sony Hardware as possible, why allow these corporate fecks to dictate hardware DRM to restrict Indie media any-more.
Name and shame the companies as all the **AA trade group name is for is to protect the ***** capitalist corporate globalist wankers from bad press.

If SONY PAYOLA (google it) wasn't bad enough already to force every artist to sign to a major for ANY air time you have the RIAA stealing royalties to block the competition. isnt it about time the gatekeepers were diluted?
RIAA Claims Ownership of All Artist Royalties For Internet Radio
http://slashdot.org/articles/07/04/29/0335224.shtm ...
"With the furor over the impending rate hike for Internet radio stations, wouldn't a good solution be for streaming internet stations to simply not play RIAA-affiliated labels' music and focus on independent artists? Sounds good, except that the RIAA's affiliate organization SoundExchange claims it has the right to collect royalties for any artist, no matter if they have signed with an RIAA label or not. 'SoundExchange (the RIAA) considers any digital performance of a song as falling under their compulsory license. If any artist records a song, SoundExchange has the right to collect royalties for its performance on Internet radio. Artists can offer to download their music for free, but they cannot offer their songs to Internet radio for free ... So how it works is that SoundExchange collects money through compulsory royalties from Webcasters and holds onto the money. If a label or artist wants their share of the money, they must become a member of SoundExchange and pay a fee to collect their royalties.'"

an interesting read about the majors stealing techniques by Courtney Love can be found here:
Courtney Love does the math: http://archive.salon.com/tech/feature/2000/06/14/l ... - w3ber, on 09/26/2009, -6/+90http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL9-esIM2CY
Dear Lily Allen,
Remember when you pretended, Lily, that you were truly independent, Lily? Faking like you made it all alone but you were legally with Regal, part of Parlophone - oh yes. So when you lectured me, I thought I'd fileshare my thoughts on your mp3, Lily.
Now first I must sing your praises - I love your singing but I'll just say this: I saw on your MySpace pages saying filesharing's a new ice age, but the industry's a recent innovation - music's been alive, thriving since cavemen. Folk songs so long have had a place in communities that you should be amazed at it. Then one day came intellectual property, meaning if I think a thought, you can't copy me. And if honesty's the best policy, I'd say songs are better off without this monopoly. It'd blatantly be a major fail if they'd patented the major scale. And downloads don't equate to sales, so taking them away won't make me pay up - just procludes me from sending your tunes to my friends, so we all lose in the end. You lose potential fans and we lose respect for the fact that you're desperate for cash. But what do you expect from the lass who's collecting a fat bank cheque from the man, while her fans are collecting the glasses for minimum wage they'll spend on her tracks?
Now please don't be offended, Lily; I think your new CD's splendid, Lily. Everybody's at It and it's Not Fair, I Could Say, The Fear was Him but He wasn't There so let's go Back to the Start, before 22 - all music's in the public domain, so ***** You.
It's never the amateurs that's reckon it's damaging us, it's the major labels saying it's fatal; like when Napster had to pack up, wrecked by Metallica. The table's turned now - the labels churn out a new Jezebelinternetelevangelist - and she's fit - with a manuscript that was actually written by Mr. Michael Masnick. Can you get the irony? And by the by, Lily, I like this beat - I hope you don't mind me thieving, 'cause even doing a cover song's decried as stealing. But it's alright, still, for you to plagiarise, and preach it - Don't you believe it's maybe time to rethink, Lily?
Put music back in the hands of the people; make the majors and amateurs equal. If anything labels strangle the freedom you claim they're saving by banning this evil. That's the actual reason, you see; and please don't compare sharing to stealing - I've not took anything off you, I'm just spreading love for what you do. Downloaded your songs for free, then I bought my mom your CD. She likes it too, she keeps telling me, all because I pirated an mp3. Now I've got Matt Bellamy belling me, telling me I'm not a fan, I'm the enemy. That's amusing, I've paid enough to see Muse in my time I could buy them a museum. Did you see them on that programme miming? Yeah, the pirates are killing live gigs. Maybe we should have a ban CDs appeal - then people would pay to see bands for real. Dear Lily, why are you being this silly?
Yours sincerely,
Dan Bull
P.S. - And I don't mean any offence or anything, Lily. I just don't think the issue's as clear cut as you're making out. And I know you're going to carry on making music really. But when you're between the devil and the deep blue sea, you need to stop worrying about pirates, and adjust your sails. - shazbotben, on 09/26/2009, -1/+65"The table's turned now - the labels churn out a new Jezebelinternetelevangelist - and she's fit - with a manuscript that was actually written by Mr. Michael Masnick."
Snap. - InactiveUser, on 09/26/2009, -1/+63Dear Dan.
To support your efforts I would like to purchase a few tracks but there is a problem. None of those services advertised at the bottom of your page have a license to distribute music in Australia aside from iTunes which I refuse to use. Not even Amazon mp3 can be distributed In the entire South Pacific including Australia, Java, Timor, New Caledonia, Numea and New Zealand (some 128 million people).
Nice track though...

Maybe you should read the damn article. Jackass
Love, Mo0man - evergrim, on 09/26/2009, -4/+55Nice song, had some really smooth lyrics. Lol Lily has ***** up big time now. I've lost all respect for her.
- jingwei, on 09/26/2009, -4/+53killer tune.
- AngryDeuce, on 09/26/2009, -2/+43If I was Lily Allen, I'd be flattered people were downloading my album...at least that means people are listening to it. I mean, seriously...if no one was stealing it online, how many people REALLY would have even heard it?
Good job, Lily Allen. Bite the hand that feeds you. I think a lot of people won't be going to see her concerts anytime soon... - KlogereEndGrim, on 09/26/2009, -0/+37Download his stuff for free + use paypal link.
Problem solved! - Darkaged, on 09/26/2009, -1/+33Muse mimed to mock the Italian TV show. They weren't allowed to perform live, and Muse didn't like that, so they took it to the extreme.
- Travelsonic, on 09/26/2009, -0/+31Dear SubmissiveDeath,
Why do you have to justify your laziness through ***** comments that disrupt a discussion?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuqsxnHlhTc - pigfister, on 09/26/2009, -0/+26yes, the unless you pay soundexchange (The RIAA) you cannot collect the royalties.
this is a law passed by USA congress to allow the RIAA to steal royalties from all around the globe and to block indie artists from becoming heard thus keeping the RIAA their gatekeeper status.
its a kind of mob like protection racket, either you allow us to take a cut of the pie or we win block you, this is one of the sides of the fight against the current stupid copy-write laws. - Aeroboy, on 09/26/2009, -0/+23"With the furor over the impending rate hike for Internet radio stations, wouldn't a good solution be for streaming internet stations to simply not play RIAA-affiliated labels' music and focus on independent artists? Wait a second... Does that mean that if I, Joe Sixpack, record a song in my home studio, and send it to an Internet radio, and they play it, SoundExchange gets money? - TrevorBelmont, on 09/26/2009, -1/+24Didn't even look at it, did ya?
- iheartbakon, on 09/26/2009, -3/+22Post video after done ***** her plx.
- weeFred, on 09/26/2009, -0/+19Yeah Muse always sing live or take the piss out of the tv show, they did the same on "live and kicking" in 2001 when they were forced to mime. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZZrM_pS98E
- raydeen, on 09/26/2009, -4/+23Only when it's overpriced. LIke your mom.
- Mo0man, on 09/26/2009, -1/+20I'm not sure. Maybe Glenn Beck?
- ninjaofpatience, on 09/26/2009, -2/+21I used to really like her music, but the moment you start attacking your fans you become that artist or that group that used to be good. Seriously when was the last time any of the major label mouth pieces put out something good?
- vinbot, on 09/26/2009, -5/+22Lily Allen is just another moderately talented pop singer. She's sloppy, dull, and headed for obscurity, fast. That is, unless she gets hooked on crack, or starts turning tricks to pay the bills (a likely scenario), in which case we be inflicted with sordid tales about her for years to come. If file sharing means 'artists" like Allen disappear faster, I say, hooray for file sharing! Truly talented musicians will never have anything to fear from piracy because people will gladly shell out to support them.
My advice, Lily? You're young yet. You still have a chance. Lay off the booze and drugs, go back to school, and try to make yourself useful. Seriously. - pigfister, on 09/26/2009, -1/+17Well that's one of the problem with the world, people want instant gratification & are unwilling to educate themselves through reading history, political papers ect.
people that don't give a dam & have been demoralised by governments & corporations which is why our economy is a disaster & our governments abuse us at every possible turn. - fragomatik, on 09/26/2009, -0/+15"But when you're between the devil and the deep blue sea, you need to stop worrying about pirates, and adjust your sails"
It looks like an intentional double-meaning right there: "adjust your SALES". Clever work Mr Dan Bull! - dexterclaire, on 09/26/2009, -1/+14I know what you mean, I'm a Digger and I've got an album I'd love for people to download. It's free.
http://hollygorock.bandcamp.com/ - YourMomsAnAnon, on 09/26/2009, -1/+14For the record: 597 words. Hardly >9000
- bdbr, on 09/26/2009, -0/+13The law allows Internet radio stations to negotiate directly with labels/artists, bypassing SoundExchange. Merlin (the indie record consortium) should offer a next-to-nothing rate to any web radio station, recognizing that internet radio is a form of advertising. This would provide a huge monetary advantage to radio stations that play indie music. Those labels will probably never get anything from SoundExchange anyway, so they have nothing to lose.
BTW, the Courtney Love link is broken. - muffcakes, on 09/26/2009, -1/+14I tried to write a song fairly similar to this (except not to Lily) but failed because I have no talent. It's an awesome song.
I especially agree with the point about music thriving long before this toxic industry came along and tried to own it. - alpha88, on 09/26/2009, -0/+12Honestly if you're an artist without a label, spreading your music online for free is the best way to get fans that will attend shows, buy merch, and buy albums.
- ArthurSucks, on 09/26/2009, -2/+14I wish someone would download my album...

- iruber1337, on 09/26/2009, -2/+12It's pretty sad when major record companies have to attempt to create a spy to appeal to the masses...I think that's a pretty good indication it's time to reform the current model. No I'm not saying give it away free but make some type of incentive to purchase the MP3s or CDs; remember back in the late '90s CD+ were all over the place...those were great -- in addition to the CD, you also got music videos, interviews and random crap the band probably thought was funny. Why can't you purchase something like that digitally? Make it an incentive to purchase the full album for $15 vs two songs for $2 -- Flash has come a long way and can be way more interactive so why not embrace this technology to create a new in-demand product?
/soapbox - GamerX, on 09/26/2009, -3/+13Probably she thinks it is unfair
- snrdos, on 09/26/2009, -0/+9Because they are spending $125/hr on legions of lawyers to go after people on the internet. No money for churning out a better product.
- AngryDeuce, on 09/26/2009, -0/+9Yeah, I was one of those people that was buying tons of CD's in the pre-Napster days, but the thing is, back then there were so many CDs released that were a rip off. I'm talking 3-4 tracks with professional production values, and 6-8 tracks of obviously sub standard "filler" tracks, added only to increase the length of the disc and thus justify the $20 price tag. I can't even tell you how many CD's I have that were just horrible except for 1 or 2 standout tracks...
That's why I jumped on Napster in the first place. There were so many great songs on overall ***** CD's, and I just wanted to hear that one track. CD singles did exist back then, but really, $7 for a single track? Along with 2 other tracks with production values so bad they couldn't even be included on the ***** album? Please...that's absurd.
Of course, when they did try to get with the times and iTunes and such came along, it was too late. The public had already "whetted it's appetite" on pirating music, saw how easy it was, and for a lot of people, there's no going back. Add to that he fact that the RIAA badly screws over it's artists in the first place, and I won't support a major label by buying the music. The artist may miss my 3 cents, but I'm sure the label will miss the other 97 cents a whole lot more. Of course, if an artist wishes to sell me music directly, I'll buy it. I buy self made CD's from shows all the time...
So yeah, They did kinda bring this upon themselves to a certain extent. The labels saying "take it or leave it" to the fans for so many years...the fans said "fine, I'll leave it...and just take it later". - JessterKing, on 09/26/2009, -1/+9she thinks now????
- blackeyedbrian, on 09/26/2009, -1/+8If you really have one, spread the links around =)
- Travelsonic, on 09/26/2009, -1/+8Yes there is, Defuser, , ***** like you, deluded, who attempt to show intellect by taking a minority and generalize against the majority - making you look outright stupid.
- miggyb, on 09/26/2009, -1/+8I pay for your mom (and leave tips) every night. How do you think you can afford Internet?
- wikinerd, on 09/27/2009, -0/+7Lol. Defuser:
Piracy = black/parallel market caused by market failure in this monopoly...
"Did you intentionally fail?" -GaltShrugged... - c0mputar, on 09/26/2009, -0/+7Lily Allen is obviously digging for an excuse to stop producing music, because at this rate the amount of pirates stealing her music doesn't stop her from racking in millions. Even as people say she's a hypocrite or is scum for the RIAA, that doesn't boost the case for pirating. You guys offer no advice for the music industry on how to give incentives to consumers not to pirate or how they can churn out a profit[how can they?], and so the only thing that is inevitable would be for artists to stop producing music to pirating fans. So when it happens, you guys look for anything to discredit her in order to somehow justify your pirating. Pretty ***** behavior from all sides... That said, I'm going to download Gamer, brb.
- bdbr, on 09/26/2009, -0/+7..but that requires innovation!
- Travelsonic, on 09/26/2009, -4/+10"Digg's latest "What, people want me to PAY for things?" tantrum-fest."
Not as bad as the apparent rash of illiteracy on Digg, where people only see what they expect and not what is actually there.
(that means posters like you, ass) - dokeyfunk, on 09/27/2009, -1/+7who's lily allen?
