- steeak, on 11/13/2009, -1/+143I mean its true, why don't they spend their money fixing the problem instead of defending a ***** network?
- DesdinovaEL, on 11/13/2009, -0/+132In Austin you can put 10 iphones on the same table and some will be on edge and some will be on 3g. come back half an hour later and its same thing but on different phones...
I mean, how can you even explain that to an average phone customer? - AWBoy666, on 11/13/2009, -3/+105Great commercials. AT&T's service sucks.
- iamorangehat, on 11/13/2009, -2/+59My IPhone works in my city most of the time. Go to one of the local towns (within 10 miles of my city) and it's a brick. Verizon works everywhere. ATT services sucks.
- gankige, on 11/13/2009, -2/+41Verizon pretty much pwned AT&T with these ads. Hit 'em right where it hurts. You'd think with as much resources and revenue AT&T attracts, they'd put more effort into making their current services not suck.
AT&T: We've got the iPhone. And it works /most/ of the time... And that's about it. - Idiggapony, on 11/13/2009, -1/+37What an offensive load of crap. We've all seen the commercial. Verizon claims that their 3G coverage is more extensive than AT&T's 3G coverage. If AT&T thinks that's false, then they should complain. If not, then they should STFU.
I'd be tempted to switch to Verizon if they hadn't screwed me over so badly the last time I used their service. They massively overcharged me every month, even though they promised they'd stop, and then they kept charging my credit card for almost a year after I canceled my service, even though I kept calling and they kept saying they'd stop.
If someone wants to create a wireless company that isn't a bunch of sleazy scumbags, they'd be extremely popular and get a lot of business. - jrm125, on 11/13/2009, -2/+27HEADSHOT!
Slimy damage control AT&T. I live in downtown Boston and I lose 3G all the time. Ridiculous. - inactive, on 11/13/2009, -2/+25My verizon netbook gets faster download speeds than it does when wired at home to my AT&T DSL. Troof.
- drmangrum, on 11/13/2009, -1/+23I have my iPhone sitting on my desk at work for streaming pandora ( damn corporate firewalls!). I routine go from 4 bars to no bars and back again in the space of a few seconds. I can be on 3g one second, Edge the next second. It makes no damn sense.
- brihar73, on 11/13/2009, -0/+18I don't see what the big deal is. Verizon's commercials show the differences between 3G coverage. They're not claiming other coverages. That's why it says "3G Coverage" at the bottom of the maps and not "All Coverage"! The only way this is misleading is for the illiterate people who can't read or choose not to read. I would understand AT&T's lawsuit if the maps said "All Coverage", but they don't.
- badqat, on 11/13/2009, -1/+17Indeed, and it blows as well.
I was recently surprised (shocked, actually) to find that my hometown now has full on, all over 3G from AT&T.
But, does me no good, since I'm seventy miles away in an EDGE "paradise". - zaduma, on 11/13/2009, -0/+16I live in Indiana, and I never have 3G, lame.
- StormlordElite, on 11/13/2009, -1/+16AT&T DSL is a joke.
- AndrewDB, on 11/13/2009, -0/+15That's the way it works in Indiana too. :(
- FoxtrotYankee, on 11/13/2009, -1/+15It's not misleading unless you're stupid.
They show a map with almost no 3G coverage and that's an accurate representation of AT&T's 3G coverage. They pretty clearly say they are comparing 3G coverage.
If anything, the map they show is generous toward AT&T because it doesn't show all the places (like New York or San Francisco) where AT&T claims 3G coverage but your iPhone is still crippled because AT&T failed (and continues to fail) to deploy the proper network density or building-penetrating frequencies. - acidrainnn, on 11/13/2009, -0/+12Cause they got bigger pools to get bigger jets to buy. Even with the lawsuit they'll be spending much less than they would be spending to fix their *****.
- DarkMatter911, on 11/13/2009, -2/+13I have had both carriers and for wireless service they both suck. I see no difference in the coverage or quality of service. Have a friend with verizon and he is always complaining about the quality of service, dropped calls, etc. There are also plenty of people that complain about AT&T.
Switching between them is like deciding whether you want to be attacked by a lion or a tiger - you are ***** either way. - ubermensch00, on 11/13/2009, -1/+11and now Verizon has started offering FiOS in some markets too. poor At&t.
- Idiggapony, on 11/13/2009, -0/+8But Verizon says quite clearly in the ad that they're comparing 3G coverage. I'm not very technically sophisticated when it comes to cell phone issues, and I thought it was clear. It's true that some people won't know what 3G coverage is, so they won't understand, but that's unavoidable. Should car manufacturers be disallowed from saying they offer the highest gas mileage in their class, just because some people don't know what gas mileage is?
- Blackmamba7, on 11/13/2009, -2/+10Bragging about the network that they have had all along... wow, original....
- psunut5, on 11/13/2009, -0/+83G...
- 11oops, on 11/13/2009, -1/+9Then read a book.
- FoxtrotYankee, on 11/13/2009, -1/+9I understand advertising. Apparently, you don't understand reason. Verizon specifically says what the maps are. If people's poor judgment doesn't let them interpret words and pictures properly, that's not Verizon's fault.
It is, however, AT&T's fault that the map "doesn't look good". It doesn't look good because IT ACTUALLY ISN'T GOOD! AT&T has failed to keep up with demand for its network and deserves to go to last place once it loses iPhone exclusivity.
As I said before, the map that Verizon shows is actually kind of generous because it doesn't depict all the major problems AT&T has in places where that map shows coverage. - Elranzer, on 11/13/2009, -1/+8"It's not misleading unless you're stupid."
That's AT&T's core customer base, though. - Wolfghost, on 11/13/2009, -0/+7Like the Atlanta metro area. No Verizon connection (data or voice) at home or work. At my wife's office, Verizon's nearest tower was damaged 5 years ago (voice only 50% of the time, no data) and it's still not fixed.
So we switched to AT&T. Now we have to deal with the worst billing system and customer service in the industry. - RocketGib, on 11/13/2009, -0/+7Someone needs to start reading their emails and checking their missed call log!
- FairDinkumMate, on 11/13/2009, -0/+7You need to get out more!
I travel regularly between the US, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina & Brazil. 3G coverage in the large cities of all of these countries is fantastic & consistent except in the US. Once you get to outlying areas most only have EDGE but to claim that the technology is inherently unreliable is just plain wrong. - EtherGnat, on 11/13/2009, -0/+7By that standard everything is misleading because there is always some idiot who doesn't understand. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool. The standard has to be whether it's misleading to an average person.
And seriously? It's misleading to people that don't read it? No ***** *****. - Idiggapony, on 11/13/2009, -0/+6In my opinion, Glenn Beck is at best an objectionable douchebag, and at worst a dangerous lunatic.
That said, I think it would be nice if we could sometimes discuss various things without needing to work him into the discussion. - puppyoneb, on 11/13/2009, -1/+7There's an App for that.
- razmig, on 11/13/2009, -0/+6I knew the second I read your first paragraph you would reference Mr. CK, unfortunately you're still retarded.
"cancel your cell service until they meet your unreasonable demands"
You mean the "unreasonable demands" they themselves advertise but never deliver on? - 11oops, on 11/13/2009, -1/+6According to AT&T's maps my current city, along with all the areas surrounding it, has had total 3G coverage. The maps said that 4 years ago, and they still say that today. However, I have never once gotten a 3G signal on my phone no matter where I am in my city, nor has anyone else that I've spoken with.
So you can probably take the maps Verizon is showing and remove some more of their supposed 'coverage' and still have an accurate advertisement. - Anub1s, on 11/13/2009, -1/+5Wow, that person has a lot of catching up to do.
- dagamer34, on 11/13/2009, -1/+5I'VE GOT IT. They are suing Verizon to get the money to PAY for network upgrades! It's ingenious!!!
Or they are just lining their pockets... =/ - krisrm, on 11/13/2009, -1/+5It's threads like these that make me proud to be a Canadian :) - I get EDGE in LRT stations, good 3G reception in every local town and city, and there's a tower in sight of my house. And this is on the Rogers network, which is supposedly a "limited coverage" network, in comparison to Bell and Telus' new HSPA network.
...and then I remember that I can't buy music online anywhere but the iTunes store, and I curse my Canadian heritage ;) - chroko, on 11/13/2009, -1/+4I traveled this week. Sitting in an airport lounge I had five bars of G3 coverage, but the iPhone kept dropping out and reverting to Edge. It's probably just not set up for that many G3 phones in close proximity.
Although it is nice that I occasionally run into AT&T WiFi hotspots that the phone will automatically use if it sees. - duihomer, on 11/14/2009, -0/+3Beware of putting 10 iPhones on the same table. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEl7QqoPH9c
- EtherGnat, on 11/13/2009, -0/+3Nobody is denying there are some idiots who will misunderstand. There are some idiots that will misunderstand anything. It's just meaningless. It's a given and it doesn't impact the discussion at all. So why make a pointless comment?
- philzone, on 11/13/2009, -1/+4I just spent a week driving around the sticks of Oklahoma and Kansas. I had a T-Mobile phone that had good coverage everywhere, though very rarely on T-Mobile's network. I had a Verizon cell modem and it never worked (except when I got near I135, I35 and I40). So what should I take home from this? It seems to me that while Verizon may have a large network, T-Mobile contracts with a lot of smaller players giving an effective larger network. I have no idea how this applies to other areas of the country, but it was suprising how much better T-Mobile was.
- holeymoley, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2Begrudgingly, I have to agree. Despite how evil I think Rogers can be at times, I never lose 3G coverage in the greater Toronto area or Southern Ontario unless I'm in a subway or basement. In fact it's kind of a novelty - "hey look! it says EDGE up in the corner"
- digjam, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2ALL TELECOM COMPANIES SUCK,ATT VERIZON ALL!
- Corinthos, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2I work for ATT Wireless I really wish someone would post the internal "Network Guy" spots. This has hit them where it hurts I've received three emails because of it and there is something on our websites like 3 times a week trying to discredit it. Even the employee comments to the articles are hilarious and telling att its true.
- briand559, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2Sprint FTW!
- dimebagtwenty, on 11/13/2009, -9/+11What does this have to do with Glenn Beck raping and murdering a young girl in 1990?
- sw0rdz, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2According to the map that Verizon posted! Its due to ATnT using other companys' towers is why it glitched and I got a several hundred dollar bill.
- silverfox08, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2I went through the same nightmares as you and can't wait for all these people hoping for a verizon iphone to get to experience it for themselves. We had Verizon internet, landline and cellphone, but as you may or may not know, verizon wireless and verizon are actually 2 different companies. So even if you have verizon internet, landline, tv and cell phone, you will get a bill from verizon for the internet, tv and landline and a seperate bill from verizon wireless for the cell phone. Unless you get them all at the same time that is.
So, we decided we wanted to just get one bill. Verizon offers a "one bill" solution. What they don't tell you is that the one bill service is actually outsourced to some other company that handles billing for them. So, if you have questions about billing, you call the number on your bill which is not even a vz company. IF they can't help you with an issue (getting double billed) then they shove you off to verizon, and when verizon finds out you're a one bill customer, they ship you back off to the one bill company. 6 hours of screaming and being on hold later, you hang up.
Verizon wireless billed us while we were paying the wireless bill through one bill. So we were double charged for cell service. So we just paid the one bill bill and ignored the wireless bills. Well, verizon wireless didn't know apparently that one bill was getting our money, so they sent our account to collections. It took faxing one bill bills to vz wireless to get them to understand that we had payed and they needed to get the money from one bill, but not until after we had a mark on our credit because vz reported the account as delinquent.
Bottom line, VZ is a HUGE fragmented conglomerate that is made up of about a hundred smaller companies that have been absorbed into this giant. That means that one part of VZ doesn't know what the other is doing, and they seem to have issues communicating within the company itself. As long as you never have ANY problems and you NEVER have to call them or deal with them for any reason, I guess they're just as good as any other cell provider, but god forbid you ever get screwed by them and have to get it straightened out. - krisrm, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2And neither are you; not with AT&T's shoddy service ;)
- penmanship, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1AT&T sucks?
- silverfox08, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I just made all that up because... Not an apple fan boy. In fact, the iPhone is the only apple device I own. The phone is the best phone I've ever had/used.
Verizon burned us bad. They double billed us for our cell phones because we tried to get our verizon landline, internet and cell phones all on one bill. Vz wireless and vz are different companies, so when we requested one bill, they outsource their billing to a 3rd party company.
We were paying the 3rd company for our wireless account and vz kept sending us wireless bills. We ignored the vz bills and payed the one bill bill. Vz sent our wireless account to collections because they claimed we weren't paying. We had to FAX them copies of the one bill bills along with copies of our checks sent to one bill. It took months to straighten out and we ended up with a mark on our credit because it's impossible to work with vz.
So basically, one bill was getting the money and either not sending it to vz wireless, or they were sending it and it was credited to someone elses account. Because vz couldn't find where the money went, they demanded we pay them even though we sent copies of the checks we sent to one bill. -
