- digithed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is just the latest in Honda's "The Power of Dreams" advertising campaign in the U.K.. Take a look at their http://www.thepowerofdreams.com site and check out the "Impossible Dream" advert which is really fantastic. They ran this advert over Christmas in the U.K. sometimes buying entire advertising breaks as the full length version of the advert is 2 minutes long.

If you do some searching around you should find both the "Impossible Dream" ad (http://www.mininova.org/get/184949) and the "Choir" ad available for download using bittorrent.

:D - PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a little off topic, but've wanted to say this for a while, and here's as close as I'm going to get to a relevant place to air that I have a problem with Honda's "Cog" commercial.
As much as the ad agency repeated over and over that they didn't use special effects to produce it, the viewers would have been none the wiser if they secretly had. It's a bit like taking a marble out of your pocket and claiming you made it yourself from coloured sand, but it was so expensive and time consuming that you can't repeat the amazing feat, and that you should just shut up and believe it (after all there's evidence, right?).
Only the advertising industry could make money from lying to people then ask them to believe unprovable stories of their feats of trickery. - Fosowp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't believe the effect took down Honda.

Ricer may be prejudiced, but not racist. Ricers are often asian, but the common usage is that a ricer "rices" up his car, enhancing it. Do pimps get offended when you do stuff to your car (i.e. pimp it)?
Long story short: STOP BEING OFFENDED ON ASIANS' BEHALF. Ask an Asian guy if he gives a damn. If he expresses misgivings, then maybe you can care that people are using the word "ricer". Seriously. If you want to get offended, get offended when someone says "jap" or "dirty jap" or "chink" or something equally demeaning. It is not really in-keeping with their overall brand presentation and it is clear that they decided to hire some agency to produce something "cool & unique". this really "GRINDS MY GEARS!"

I bought a Tivo just to AVOID advertising. Making advertising compelling enough to want to watch is going to win some battles for honda in the youth market.
