- elbeano, on 10/12/2007, -7/+122If that didn't actually come in a bag I would send that mother back
- Zipp425, on 10/12/2007, -0/+62I always try to get those bags of crap, but they sell out way to fast.
Woot, is amazing! and that guy/girl is really really lucky. - elbeano, on 10/12/2007, -4/+64ok... but I'd be REALLY disappointed
- Celeron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58During woot-off's, a small number of BOC's are loaded with items that go for hundreds of dollars. This is used to reward Woot customers. In turn, these customers will pass along good words and Woot will thrive, as they're right now.

pic of the tv...
lucky lucky lucky - vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45he will probably hook it up with composite cables too...
- xentar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+43I bought that 61" tv when woot.com first offered it for $2,999 along with a $500 rebate. (tv still kicks ass!)
But knowing some guy was able to get it for 1 dollar makes me want to do a hulk smash on my keyboard.
...and I'm trying hard to not walk into my living room either. must.not.hulksmash.tv. - jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -15/+56lol no you wouldnt
- SirNuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35Woot uses bags of crap as both a way to advertise and as a way to clear out stuff that didn't sell well.
They can certainly afford it. They make over a few million in sales during each woot-off. Pretty significant for a company that probably has less employees then your average restaurant. - Celeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33They usually sell in less than one minute. Alot of individuals stay awake the whole entire night in order to obtain BOC's, heck, I lost alot of sleep on the August woot-off. Woot's BOC differentiates themselves from other mystery prize websites as Woot always includes amazing items like console players, mp3 players, etc.
- DroidBlender, on 09/18/2008, -1/+31wait wait, i don't get this. they pay $1 for a bag of random crap in it, and this guy happened to get a 61" TV?
do these guys buy the bags of crap from Woot? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27that's just awesome! they're like the real Santa Clause. or the golden ticket from charlie and the chocolate factory
- Sazzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26"Why am I the only one who is skeptical?"
Because... sometimes, people just want to believe there is good in this world. And if a $1 61" HDTV doesnt spell G-O-O-D, I dont know what ever will...
I believe. - TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Stop telling people about w00t, its damn hard enough to get BOC's as it is!
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20It's good to be skeptical. Obviously this is a PR stunt. A very smart one. Woot is a great site.
- Murphys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19No, it has RF inputs.
That way you don't have to "bother" with seperate audio cables. :) - 4NDr01D, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19what about Fun Bag O' Glass ?
SNL anyone? - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23"Woot, is amazing! and that guy/girl is really really lucky."
Or woot's just very good at PR. Think about it: How many people will come by their site for $1 bags of crap now or just to do general shopping? And all it cost the company was one big screen TV?
Don't expect to see another big ticket item come out of the BOC for a while. - xaaronreevesx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15@ mazerstar
no reason to be skeptical. woot always sells stuff for cheap.
@oxyrubber
no, the bag of crap isnt 5 dollars, thats shipping on all woot products. each BOC is 1 dollar, but most people buy 3, so it would be 8 dollars after shipping.
@ allenu
woot is a website that sells 1 product a day, usually cheaper then normal retail price. sometimes they have wootoffs, which they go on a selling spree you could say, and sell product after product for extremely low prices. - Celeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14There are already sites out there that will alert people of certain items like BOC's. These sites will even text message the user's cell phone. I.E. http://WootAlerts.com
- oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14My boss set up a script to watch their site and email him when there was a bag-o-crap for sale. I'm gonna bet he's mad he didn't get this.
Also, I think it's $5 (or that's what I was told).
Unlikely that you'll ever see another big freebie anytime soon. They are just using the sparce expensive items to keep people checking their site. Not bad for free advertising. - HitLines, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Picture of the note: http://entertainment.webshots.com/photo/2298031500089956379qhIUPv
Picture of the TV: http://entertainment.webshots.com/photo/2053318450089956379HrfUxA - Card, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Just a note. These are different than Lotteries because no matter what, if you order a bag of crap, you win. That's just all there is to it. You get one or more items that are worth more than $1, and almost always go above the shipping cost as well.
I've tried my best to get one, but no such luck here... - brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Wouldn't exactly call it "free" advertising. They took a loss on the product they almost literally gave away. It cost them, but they got a lot of online publicity for not that much money (probably cheaper than google ads).
- BLKMGK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10If you can touch the filament and it's not sealed then I think perhaps I know why your bulb died on you....
- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Only one thing can be used to describe this:
ZOMFG!!! - Derter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Totally incredible. Each day I regret woot don't deliver to Canada.
- billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Ooh, so I should be writing this down...
- CGorman68, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Do you know what a duvet is? It's a blanket. Just a blanket.
Now why do guys like you and me know what a duvet is? Is it essential to our survival, in the hunter-gatherer sense of the word? No. - ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I watched the Woot-Off for the whole thing besides 6 hours (over 2 nights) for sleep, and I missed the BoC because I had to take an elevator. I was carrying my laptop around everywhere, but the signal dropped as soon as the elevator doors closed which is when the item changed. When the doors opened, I saw the site was dead for the first time through the whole Woot-Off. Right then I knew what happened.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+17holy jesus ***** christ. and the MFer who won it didn't even know how to post a link. or a picture. I am officially jealous with my 17" tv.
- shredswithpiks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Thats a good business model......for drug dealers"
The drug dealing business model is the best business model, even for legitimate business. :) - XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Woot has been around for YEARS"?
I suppose just over 2 years qualifies but not for an all caps!
I believe Woot.com launched with a Friendly Robotics RL500 Robomower for $179 on July 12, 2004 - LordBug, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8When a BoC comes up, you have about 30 seconds to order it. By the time he gets that e-mail, there are no more BoCs to buy.
Also, each BoC is $1. You can buy up to 3 (and why you wouldn't buy 3 is beyond me), plus $5 shipping for the whole order. So $8 nets you 3 Bags. - bobbygeorgina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"I don't get it. Can someone explain to me what happened? And what is woot.com all about?"
EXPLANATION:
woot.com sells stuff at a discounted price. It is often stuff that is the 'older model'. The cost for items varies by product.
A "bag of crap" is when users can pay $1 for a bag of unknown items. - Sometimes it is a USB hub that is 1.1 (not 2.0) and some other cheap stuff. Some users get shipped much more expensive/valuable items. - Sometimes it is a computer.
What happened is that one guy got a TV instead of a small item in a bag. - corduroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Why would Amazon or Walmart do something like this in the first place? I don't even know why eBay would bother since they're an auction site...
Wanna know what I got in my 1 BOC I was able to get? 2 Kensington hockey pucks, a small stuffed animal, and a receiver for a wireless MS mouse. Just the receiver.
It's no different than the lottery. Someone is going to win big. You can send me 8$ and i'll give you the chance to buy something nice ... what would you guess your odds are of winning something nice?
Anyways, this is good advertising. 1 person gets something nice out of thousands and everyone talks about it everywhere. remember, there's a reason it's called a BOC (bag of crap) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Very wrong. This is not online gambling, it's more like random buying. A better analogy would be that buying a Bag O' Crap is like going to the store and buying a toy from one of those little gumball machines that are in the front of the store. You don't know what you're going to get because you can't see which prize is next in line, but you know that it's going to be something (good or bad).
Or like buying a box of Cracker Jacks. The prize is guaranteed but you don't know what it will be. Either way you ALWAYS get something..but 90% of the time it's completely useless.
I'm pissed that I actually made it to the buy screen for last month's BOC but woot's servers bombed out on me and wouldn't allow me to complete the purchase! - Bender1012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I wouldn't put much stock into that script for netting a BOC, because they sell out so damn quickly that if you're not watching the site like a hawk you probably aren't going to get one.
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -0/+6keep in mind, all of that for $6
- DogHumpsMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6A 61" Tv is a hell of a lot better than the guy that got a drain snake but not quite as good as the guy that got a toilet brush with a "refurbished" tag on it. Well, maybe a a little better.
- patience, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Guys: Nothing in life is free.
Woot can "GIVE"away this tv because all these shopping addicts have
maxed out their credit cards on this site.
Its that simple. - AeroZeppelin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Lucky son of a bitch
- msgyrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5A refurbished toilet brush is hilarious. I would rather get something that made me laugh my ass off than something worth more than $1 but mundane or useless.
- TheBarge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"When a BoC comes up, you have about 30 seconds to order it. By the time he gets that e-mail, there are no more BoCs to buy."
Yep, unfortunately during the last Woot-off their site crashed when the BoC appeared so I didn't get one. - gk128, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I always miss out on the bag o crap.
Damn you fast buying people.
It also doesn't help that my Woot Blog updater isn't up to date.... damn thing must be broken. - priceless721, on 10/12/2007, -22/+27i saw that pic and yelled "jesus titty-***** christ!"
I am amazed. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This is like winning a lottery. I remember last year some other dude received a similarly sized TV in a BoC sale. I think woot does it once per year.
- glxyjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I got a BOC about 8 months ago during a woot-off. I didn't get a 61" TV or something but I did get....
1 used Robosapien robot w/ remote
2 (returned?) Virgin personal CD players
1 250gb hard drive that had a label on it saying "If broken, use as paperweight"
and a bunch of other random stuff like Woot T-shirts
Overall, I've never heard of anyone getting less than the $8 they spent back in value. I've been following woot for about 2 years now and this is by far the best BOC goodie I've ever seen. The best one prior to this was a home theater in a box probably worth about $1k. I remember about a year ago they sold a 60" TV that came with a BOC for free and in that BOC someone got an XBOX 360. The great part about this one is that it looks like someone else is awaiting shipment of another (61"?) TV from their BOC.
Cheers - smohan123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Know what though? I don't like woot getting all of this publicity. Call me a scrooge or whatever, but woot's stuff already sells out too fast. I don't want more people coming to the site and buying the good stuff before I do. I already break a sweat trying to get the damn webpage to load on woot-offs. Now with them prominently on digg (again), it's looking even grimmer that I'll get a share of the pie.
lol, that's a lot of *****. Congrats to the winner. Welcome new wooters (please buy all of the ***** stuff so we only get good stuff during woot-offs). kthx :) - SAOSiN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well if I had to only pay 1 dollar, i'd replace a 500 dollar bulb anytime...
