- ruforealz, on 11/30/2008, -1/+76Sounds like that scam from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels...
Pay $750 or proclaim to the world that you really didn't illegally download "Army *****" - jtotheoe, on 11/30/2008, -4/+76*****... now i cant even seed my gay porn without getting sued? theyre going way too far with this whole "intellectual property rights" thing.
- tidu, on 12/01/2008, -1/+48the gay kind
- Syric, on 12/01/2008, -8/+49Hint: read the article.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -3/+39There's nothing like harassing elderly people with pornographic blackmail. I just can't understand why so many people dislike lawyers. Maybe my grandparents will give me more than $20 for Christmas this year if I accuse them of downloading beastiality porn.
- D3koy, on 12/01/2008, -1/+22Clearly they didn't do it, no one over 55 can turn on a computer without help if my family is any indication of average computer competency.
- petebot, on 12/01/2008, -0/+20Seminal actually means "of or relating to semen" as well as its first meaning of "strongly influential," so your joke is kind of redundant..
And yes, I am fun at parties, why do you ask?... - Scrappy1850, on 12/01/2008, -0/+20hell yeah! it is COMPLETELY off the hook!
- Syric, on 12/01/2008, -6/+23I wonder who isn't reading the article.
- RumpleForeskin3, on 12/01/2008, -4/+21I thought it was Army *****
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+16It doesn't mention their son's age.
- patpl22391, on 12/01/2008, -1/+16Maybe they wanted to try something new?
- MonTheBuds, on 12/01/2008, -2/+16No it's a scam, trying to shame them into paying for stuff they didn't buy. The original article explains it much better. http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2008/nov/28/intern ...
- deaftly, on 12/01/2008, -1/+13I swear I don't download porn either!
- Swipecat, on 12/01/2008, -0/+12There is evidence that this is an actual extortion racket. The copyright holder may be contracting with a company to purposely spread the content on file sharing networks for the purpose of making it easier to find people to threaten with pre-settlement letters.
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20081119/03341828 ... - SpongeBad, on 12/01/2008, -3/+13The link to apple is tenuous, at best. If I hire Johnnie Cochrane as my lawyer, it doesn't mean I killed OJ's ex-wife.
- bdfariello, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9Psychologically, if you hear someone say "A is not associated with B" you're more likely to remember A and B than "not."
(There were stories on the subject on digg a month or two ago) - angelgabe, on 12/01/2008, -2/+11Dugg because lawyers suck.
- trollick, on 12/01/2008, -32/+40Hint: Their son is gay and he downloaded gay porn.
- FasterGun, on 12/01/2008, -5/+13FTA: "...this couple downloaded all 115 minutes of the aforementioned seminal German gay porn flick."
More like semenal amirite? - GiJoeBob, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8What's the drawback to saying they didn't do it?
- kidmaninwar, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8in that movie?
- mnemy, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8Thanks for starting the trend RIAA. Go ***** yourselves... or actually, star in a lawsuit themed gay prono with your butt buddies at Davenport Lyons.
- TheDreadDiggerD, on 12/02/2008, -0/+8It's obviously lots of gay sons.
- Syric, on 12/01/2008, -5/+12Most likely you didn't read the article.
- lostarchitect, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7Whatever it is that you're worried about, that's what happened. run.
- isunktheship, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7bdfariello nailed it.
basically it's words against words, and you'd rather not have the association. You'll be remembered as the elderly couple who "didn't" download the gay porn. - inactive, on 12/01/2008, -1/+8:/
- eSJayBee, on 12/02/2008, -0/+7You're getting two separate cases in the article confused.
- Barackalypse, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7This is a very good thing, the more frequently the flawed assumption of an IP address as personally identifying is used against obviously innocent and respectable people, the sooner it becomes useless in copyright enforcement.
- Conwaysb0718, on 12/02/2008, -0/+7Listen to this one: You open a company called the Arse Tickler's ***** Fan Club. You take out an advert in the back page of some gay mag, advertising the latest in arse-intruding dildos, you sell it with, I dunno, "does what no other dildo can do until now", "the latest and greatest in sexual technology", "guaranteed results or your money back", all that bollocks. Now these dils cost twenty-five quid a pop - as a snip for the amount of pleasure they're gonna give the recipients. But they send their cheques to the other company name, nothing offensive, er, Bobbie's Bits or something, for twenty-five quid. You take that twenty-five quid, you stick it in the bank until it clears. Now this is the smart bit - you send back the cheque for twenty-five pound from the other company name, "Arse Tickler's ***** Fan Club", saying we're sorry, we couldn't get the supplies from America because they ran out of stock. Now you see how many people cash that cheque - not a single soul, because who wants their bank manager to know they tickle arse when they're not paying cheques?

- OneLess, on 12/01/2008, -1/+6"Aha", you of a more cynical bent might be thinking. "It must be the son, then." There again, what if I told you that more than 25,000 of these letters have been sent out?
- Vindexus, on 12/01/2008, -1/+6"It might also make you wonder whether Apple, in some way, condones this heartily aggressive and, some might consider, less than discriminating style of lawyering."
It doesn't. - FasterGun, on 12/02/2008, -0/+5Oh god dammit. -1 vocabulary.
- gheide, on 12/02/2008, -0/+5Pick an IP, any IP, request the contact info from ISP, send letter... How easy it is to sue these days... FYI even IT admins get hacked... AN IP ADDRESS IS NOT A PERSON - just like a phone number is not tied to any one individual...
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -3/+8I thought it was Army Felchers
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5$750 for copyright infringement of a gay porn...It probably didn't cost $750 to make the porn in the first place.
Besides, nobody wants to see a charge on their credit card for "Army *****" - EvilFerret, on 12/01/2008, -1/+6OGC
- EMFK, on 11/30/2008, -8/+13The article is a bit misleading. Read it and you'll understand why. This will become an Apple public relations nightmare.
- ileftfark, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Davenport Lyons have been doing this shady ***** for quite a while now- I don't know too much about the UK's courts, but it's painfully obvious that they're trolling, hoping that at least a small percentage of the people they send notices to will just settle without putting up any fuss (a la the 1% the Nigerian scammers hope for). Atari had initially hired this company to protect some of their copyrighted material, and quickly backed out once they found out the methods DL was using to target their victims. Their slogan is "Turning Piracy into Profit". No lie.
Torrentfreak has a decent summary of this shady outfit here: http://torrentfreak.com/sex-expert-uncovers-shades ... Not trying to threadjack, just back up some of the claims. - Aliwalla, on 12/02/2008, -0/+4http://www.davenportlyons.com/html/about_us/partne ...
spam attack - ultrafez, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4Ever heard of old people living off their state pension?
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -1/+5hehe, why?
- jnuffnuffnomnom, on 12/01/2008, -2/+6I think there might be a penis & some ass in it..if you know what I mean
- ileftfark, on 12/01/2008, -2/+64. your a idiot.
- drlha, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4I also don't know how to download porn.
- Hurricane, on 12/02/2008, -0/+4When are the courts going to realize that The Pirate Bay spoofs random IPs to taint evidence?
- wonderbriefs, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4No, the law firm claims that they downloaded the film illegally. They happen to have an unprotected router. Someone else used their internet connection and illegally torrented the film. It's a basic copyright infringement case spiced up with elderly couples and gay porn.
- t3rmv3locity, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4RIAA style.
