- nneonneo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whoops...link corruption on Digg.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:External_peer_review/Nature_December_2005 - krazikamikaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wikipedia is the only site where I expect to spend 5 minutes reading 1 article and I end up with like 20 tabs open and 5 hours worth of reading. I love it!
- mspencer712, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Happy Birthday, Wikipedia!
Now I understand why people were submitting Wikipedia links as stories today -- it's not spam, it's Wikipedia's birthday today. Cool! - monticello, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you're using Wikipedia for scholarly work, you need to be expelled.
- abibakar, on 11/03/2008, -0/+1I also use Wikipedia all the time. It's one of my favourite "places" on the web. My parents bought our family a used World Book encyclopedia when I was young. I used to spend HOURS pouring over it, jumping around from article to article. I would NEVER consider buying a full encyclopedia in book form these days, now that Wikipedia is around. I am always amazed at how extensive some wikipedia articles are. Like I'll bet if you look up "Chevrolet Nova", you'll find a year by year review of each Chevy Nova. You'd never find that depth of coverage anywhere else but Wikipedia.

Actually there are 920,000 ENGLISH articles, currently around 3.1 million articles total. - arrrrrg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"... It's certainly not the first place I go for information. In fact, it's usually the place I go when all else fails."
It's always the first place I go. For many topics such as pop culture (e.g., philip j fry) or computer science (e.g., graph triangulation), it is more accurate and comprehensive than any other source I have found by several orders of magnitude. - nneonneo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, FYI, Nature (the scientific journal) reviewed some scientific articles on Wikipedia and Encyclopedia Britannica and found about the same number of errors on each (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:External_peer_review/Nature_December_2005).
I write this in defense of Wikipedia's accuracy (which I stand by, as most of my research comes from here!) - Ricapar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wikipedia saved my sorry ass on so many research reports.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! - Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Happy Birthday Wikipedia!!!
- Diseage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like how this gets posted at roughly 6pm eastern time. little late in the day to show this eh?
The wikipedia has practically wrote my papers for me on several occasions.
Hope it doesn't get valalized. - iteachgeeks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wiki wiki!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's to 5 more!
- kungPow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Take that Sunir Shah. ***** idiot. Thinks only he knows what a wiki is.
- KyleKaplan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well i hate to sound like a smart ass but wouldn't it take about 180 more days if previous trends continue?
BTW
I do LOVE using WP for looking up crazy sutff, it's also nice for explaining something to someone without telling them, u know what i mean! - jacko7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"... It's certainly not the first place I go for information. In fact, it's usually the place I go when all else fails."
yeah, that is most certainly wise - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wikipedia ownz0rz.... i couldn't put it any better, i could spend hours reading that thing.... can anyone say that about any other ecyclopedia?
- Steaminx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wiki is awesome. All OS X Tiger users should get the Wikipedia Dashboard widget.
- westfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Will only get better as time goes by. Congrats WP!
- aThing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let its survival of five years be a lesson (better word?) to those who do not belive!
- lordwow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I enjoy it a lot. I started editing about a year ago and have loved it since.
- Harlequn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I also use Wikipedia all the time. It's one of my favourite "places" on the web. My parents bought our family a used World Book encyclopedia when I was young. - Jarrod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is hard to believe that that much information has been compiled in only five years. You can search for almost any obscure subject now and find info about it.
- yellowbuddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, I forgot... this is the English version we're talking about. ;)
- mrkuhn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use it all the time. That and some coffee to write late night reports ;).
+ Digg. - andreizilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Happy birthday Wikipedia. Now stop wettting your bed so much..
- LAguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I prefer http://www.answers.com over Wiki. While Answers.com draws a lot of their information from Wiki, they also use 100 other sources to give more detailed responses.
- doant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wikipedia is one of the wonders of the Internet. Wikipedia forever !!!!!!
- monticello, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually the other day I started reading up on Marvel Comics stuff at Wikipedia.
That's the kind of stuff it's good for. Frivilous knowledge, and hardcore math stuff (and some science). I find anything that could POSSIBLY be tainted by bias to be totally useless. - judsond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0people say it's biased, but i think the problem is you're looking at the articles on the war on iraq... Hey surprise!
- cpawl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0tainted is right.. I hardly trust anything written there.. the last place I look for real info is the gathering ground for computer nerds with too much time on their hands.
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Happy Birthday!!!
- cesclaveria, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"If you're using Wikipedia for scholarly work, you need to be expelled."
And what if he is doing a paper about guitar tabs? ;-)

On topic:
Good for Wikipedia, is a great start for mos in depth research... and one of the best sites to find about every silly thing about the StarWars universe :P - eyeballkid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've used Wikipedia so often in the past 5 years, it's hard to remember a time on the Web when it wasn't around. 5 years? Seems like it's been here forever!
I hope it lasts for many decades to come. Long live the Encyclopedia of the People! - anastrophe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wikipedia will go *****-up before the end of 2006. you read it here first.
- unicom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@cpawl i dont agree with that at all wikipedia is the best site on the internet, at least to me. it's a great site when you don't know something and everytime i go on i learn something new. just today i have used it 5 times usally i use it anywhere from 10-50 times a day. keep up the good work wikipedia!

Please consider a tax deductible donation. - tafkase7en, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wikipedia has to be the dumbest idea for a website ever.
- cpawl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used Wikipedia maybe 3 times in 5 years... it's polluted by opinion more than facts (like the rest of the Internet).
- unicom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sorry for double posting but if you guys dont use wiki then where do you go for information please enlighten me
- snoopdawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>Wikipedia is the only site where I expect to spend 5 minutes reading 1 article and I end up with like 20 tabs open and 5 hours worth of reading. I love it!
same here. - jpyun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...and the wikipedia bashers come out in full force. Huzzah.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I suspect that most of Wikipedia's traffic is just it's own members editing and browsing rather than legitimate traffic visiting for information. The only time I use Wikipedia is when I do a google search and the top link or to point me to a Wikipedia article. I probably visit it and read one or two articles per month. It's certainly not the first place I go for information. In fact, it's usually the place I go when all else fails.
- snooo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Genuine story here.

- illegal_op, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I use the Wiki 10 times more than a real encyclopedia
