- schwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How fast will firefox load and run with 50 extensions.

"I getting sick of these actually - not the plug-ins but the "Best of..." plug-ins."
Me too. In fact, I'm getting sick of the "Best 10 movies of..." and "Top 10 web videos..." and "10 Firefox extensions you can't do without..." type of stories. The fact that they repeatedly make front page is a little more than irritating, and is responsible for the "junkyard" impression that Digg gives off. Hopefully this will change soon.
I love Firefox, but I can only take so many extension lists. - 71M80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just remember having all these extensions will make firefox about as slow as ie. all i use is undo close tab and session saver.
- mcfadden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually many of the extensions referred to in this article are not compatible with Firefox 1.5 or are no longer even available.
- Kyderdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Spam.... Did anyone try clicking on the links?
- Tralfaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it mentions 'BugMeNot' which hasn't worked for several revisions. sorry, out of date...
- Sumyunguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For anyone having difficulty running extensions, install the nightly tester tools...
http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/buildid/nightly.html
it forces firefox to use the extensions...most of them anyway.

- Tezkah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1mcfadden: "Actually many of the extensions referred to in this article are not compatible with Firefox 1.5 or are no longer even available."
Yeah exactly, so they compiled a list of 50 extensions from the Firefox extensions site from a few months back... and then posted it on their blog to drive traffic to it. no digg, this is lame. - chithon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is in fact always a trade off between the user environment and speed.
I personally have a few plug ins.... 4 or 5 I would say in my 1.5 Browser. Is it slower than the plain browser... sure I guess. But are the plug ins I have worth it to me?? Darn right.
After all... some of them save me a lot of time in my surfing. At a glance I get the information I would have to surf to multiple sites for.
Like I said... it is all about what you like. - multifaceted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I doubt I will be adding anymore extentions to firefox 1.5. I already use tabmixer, ie tab, and the highlighter extention. I like using that for long articles.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use Download Statusbar, Sage (only use once in a while), OpenDownload, and AdBlockPlus....Doesn't seem to slow it down any.
- matid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fine, but I doubt any of them will work on 1.6a1 (nightly builds), how unfortunate...
- slurpee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Happy new year all!
Anyone has alot firefox crash lately? I use some extension from the list but don't know which one cost the crash is it "FASTER Fox?"
Anyone know! tks - compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great list. I got a few more from this ( proxy switch and GMail Manager )
- jschrab, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I getting sick of these actually - not the plug-ins but the "Best of..." plug-ins.
- Chango_Family, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0/Yeah exactly, so they compiled a list of 50 extensions from the Firefox extensions site from a few months /back... and then posted it on their blog to drive traffic to it. no digg, this is lame.
Agreed.
One that I find enormously helpful for work that is not on the list Auto Copy (no more CTRL-A, CTRL-C): http://autocopy.mozdev.org/
And one not as useful that the wife put on her laptop: Tab Preview http://ted.mielczarek.org/code/mozilla/tabpreview/
Firefox staff should do a better job segregating extensions that are 1.5 compatible. - hiredgun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Filterset G ?
- short4lif2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There are way too many of these lists
- Eliseo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How many "Firefox Extensions" do we have to see here?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing new there :( And half of them I don't consider worth installing.
- ThePerp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've heard of people running 50-60 extensions at a shot...ugh. I personally run about 6-8, and every once in a while do a little 'cleaning'.
I'm lookin at you, NoScript...you useless time-wasting hunk of *****. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"About half of those are already standard features in Opera."
And that's why Firefox kicks ass. I don't even want half the features in that 50 extensions list. I probably don't even want a quarter of them. So if I stick with firefox and avoid Opera, I can save myself some overhead and feature-overload by only adding what I really want. :) - multifaceted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Okay, I fibbed I just added StumbleUpon.
- oldgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have been using Opera and FireFox to see witch one i like better and to be honest, i think they are both great browsers. So really it's just a matter of preference.
- crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FlashGot is great.
- kwazyJAS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dugg, now time to restart my firefox
- TWiTarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Do not use Fasterfox."
why not?
anyway, the only extensions i have are: gmail notifier, adblock/filterset.g, fasterfox, switch proxy, session saver. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Coolness, maybe half of those are already in opera, but who cares? these are 2 great browsers... there shouldnt be a competition between those 2.
- wasborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what!!? I installed Re-Start Firefox, recommended on their website, and it erased all my extension....now i have to get them all back
- wrinkles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really want a single menu to browse/select all my tabs across several windows. Then I would be happy with Firefox.
- tomciob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i only use prefbar
so long annoying pages.
does he have enough ram to use firefox and 50 extentions? firefox isn't a 64 bit app. - paintball102089, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i thought this was another one of the same thing. i have never seen this one or alot of those extensions. digg!
- JustMatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really? Should I not try out Fasterfox?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"what!!? I installed Re-Start Firefox, recommended on their website, and it erased all my extension....now i have to get them all back"
That's what you get for being lazy. How hard is it to click the 'X' and then click on whatever icon or menu item you have to start firefox again? Sheesh! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm a huge Firefox fan, but I don't think there are 50 good firefox extensions - period. Much less 50 "best" extensions. I use more on my windows box than I do my powerbook, but on my powerbook (which I'm using right now since I'm at work) I have:
+ Cacheout (load pages and files from caching services like Coral)
+ Tabbrowser Preferences
+ Adblock Plus w/ Filterset.F Updater
+ SessionSaver .2
+ Colorful Tabs (sounds dumb, but man are they useful)
+ Greasemonkey (I'm not actually using any of the scripts though so ...)
+ ProxyButton (since Firefox is too stupid to pick up the settings from OSX network prefs)
I have no idea what's on my linux box as I rarely boot into the desktop and work soley from the command line. - Bloc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice extensions. esp the gmail ones.
- 5m0k3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Very nice compilation.
These may be helpful for you web developers: http://techblaster.blogspot.com/2005/12/firefox-essentials-webmasters.html - gumpy5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0About half of those are already standard features in Opera.
- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0oh right! eheh eheh
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0There used to be a really great extension (can't remember the name) that let you control whether a particular site could or could not use cookies with the press of a button. It was like ALT+C. Really cool and handy.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Diggidy Diggidy Diggidy DIGG!
- rmccabe916, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"About half of those are already standard features in Opera."
Yep. Maybe even more... - diggdeeznutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0rehash...no digg.

H-A-P-P-Y N-E-W Y-E-A-R!! to all our aussie friends. - SpookyET, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Some of those extensions overlap. In the tabbing section, all you need is Tab Mix. Some of the google ones overlap.
Do not use Fasterfox. - bcassner, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0+Digg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Nice, thanks very much... im definitly going to use a few of these...
