500GB drives haven't been $300 for quite some time. - Anrkist, on 10/11/2007, -17/+98Cavalry?!?! No thanks.. I've been burned to many times on off-brand products. Nice deal if you are willing to take the risk though.
- Stonedonkey, on 10/11/2007, -20/+80It's a Western Digital drive on the inside -- a WD5000KS to be exact. Cavalry is the name of the company that put a branded WD drive in an external box and formatted it for NTFS.
The drive alone retails at almost $300, so I assume this item is refurbished, or it's been selling so poorly (on account of the heat output) that they're trying to dump inventory. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+64You guys save $10 with google checkout?
lol, we save £10 over here. owned. - redrock34, on 10/11/2007, -4/+44Actually, the item got pretty good reviews on Newegg...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822101031 - pltnz64, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4016 MB is the size of the onboard cache. time to hit the books dude.
- kloo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+40Oi! Oi! Oi!
- Dundasbro, on 10/11/2007, -3/+40There seems to be a huge amount of Australian diggers on here opposed to other non-US countries... It's weird.
/Australian - chingy1788, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33Booo
Still $180 AUD for a 500GB Internal here... - KennMac, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31You just missed that reply button when you meant to click it. Don't worry, maybe next time.
- flamingmb, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31Target is going to have a 500gb WD hdd on sale this sunday, and through the week, for $99 with no rebates. Its WD's mybook brand external hdd. Its a good deal and you dont have to worry about the mail in rebates taking forever.
- Flappy3, on 10/11/2007, -6/+33Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!
- psykiv, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27Couldn't you have told us this last week?
- Drull, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27Unless it's an old maxtor drive, then its a ticking time bomb hard drive.
- Drull, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22The knifey spooney joke couldn't be reached for comment.
- DapperDave, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Please, don't be that guy who confuses system memory for hard drive space...I mean, whatever company is paying you to write comments like that is totally getting ripped off...
Edit: damn, beaten twice. - superdigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16We'd better hurry, duggmirror doesn't catch sold-out items
- farkninja, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17500GB storage
16MB cache - TimDigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15just leave him alone he's been owned enough...
- borninda818, on 10/11/2007, -14/+294 eggs isn't that good on newegg. I don't buy anything that's not 5 eggs, except maybe motherboards...But newegg rocks cuz if the product fails at any time in the first year of use you just send it back and they give a new one free of charge. You don't have to deal with the manufacturer.
- varunb007, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16ricodued: use their online system. i used it and it was one of the best support systems i've ever experienced. they get back to you quickly and give you rma info without any hassle. here's the link: http://www.xfxforce.com/web/support/supportCentral.jspa

Hello from Perth - LemmingJesus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Non tech people seem to always refer to space as memory, can't really blame them with all the "Memory" sticks and cards that companies sell.
- mugdecoffee, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17If by memory you mean hard drive space, then yes.
- dukrous, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19Buried as inaccurate...mail-in rebates are a scam.
- ricodued, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14borninda818:
Not true. My XFX GeForce 7600GS just died after having it for, ohhh, three months. They no longer carry it and referred me back to the manufacturer whose RMA department consists of an answering machine for someone named Genie.
I bet I'll never get that damned thing replaced. - oMeSSiaHo, on 10/11/2007, -10/+22"How can a drive be both 500GB and 16MB?"
The 16mb is the cache. - Artifez, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15GAH!, I wish I wasn't broke.
- xigxag, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12(GB is just a big word for MB in old-school nerd terms)
How do you even begin to respond to this statement? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12 flamingmb...according to the online ad that is already up for this week, it is $137.99 not $99.99 at Target this week.
The $99 sale is for a 120 Gig one. - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+10$180 AUD? Maybe a month ago.
http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=500GB+SATA shows the cheapest being $153.95 AUD or $128.20 USD.
We don't have it *that* bad in Australia :)
/Australian too - LemmingJesus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Should have said yes, just to see what happens.
- SgtBlue, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14You've got to be kidding me...
See people...you're always complaining about some right being restricted by the government that's out to get you, but they obviously didn't restrict such people's (i.e. the technophobiacs) rights of getting on the intertubes. - neftaly, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Idiot fanboyisim and good advice are two entirely different things.
- ez12a, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11too bad buy.com blows.

look at newegg's:

*for those who say only people with problems/issues with service, rate stores* - Chazzer3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9If you're in the UK, this is an excellent deal, £89 with free delivery from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Essential-USB2-0-External/dp/B000EXZB0M
Also, it is a WD MyBook, so a decent brand as well.
Charlie - - wilsgrant, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12This is not that good of a deal. I work at Office Depot, last week we were selling a *Western Digital* 500gig Mybook for 99 bucks. Without rebate. It was cheaper then the 200gig version.
- psykiv, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Dugg. I seriously was looking for a deal on a 500gb external hard drive about 5 minutes ago. This is scary.
Thanks!
Its Calvary though, and with rebates. I think I'll just get the seagate drive for $107 ($100 + $7tax, they are walking distance from my house) from TD and get a decent external enclosure ($25) for it. That way I have a 5 year warranty :) - LemmingJesus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Or, it may be because it's about 2 am at the time this reached the front page in the United States, which makes it day time over in Australia.
- nathanwalker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Hey, it's 4 a.m., thank you very much.
/Texan - mygrayarea, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8My advice - if you can afford it get one with usb & eSata as well. It won't feel like some slow external device that you only want to use for backups, it'll feel like a normal freaking drive.
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9Sweet! now i have more space for my por.... I mean educational software for world peace.
- Chaostician, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I have a cavalry 500GB HD, and it's working fine so far. I'm really glad that I bought it.
- nnny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"Mail In Rebate Claim Form
Offer Only Good From 5/29/2007 To 6/4/2007"
How can one do the rebate when it expires tomorrow
One also has to put the devices serial number on the envelope
How can we do this when the shipping 2 business days - molecool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Mixed results here - sometimes I get them back (months after) - sometimes I have to push them (e.g. they claim sale receipt was missing - riiiiiight), and sometimes I don't get anything back EVER. Remember, especially on expensive items you still have to pay tax on the entire price, not a big deal on a $99.- drive, big deal on a $3k HDTV.
Recently I'm staying away from rebates - too much hassle. Simply don't have the time to mail in all that crap, expose my identity, and then have to hunt them down to get my check. - CelebVoy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Going to be years before all the orders placed will be fulfilled. It is posted on every site I have looked at so far where they post deals like this...
- aaronm67, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5@donelson
Because most computers don't have firewire, whereas every computer made in the last 5+ years has USB ports. Honestly, firewire is dying technology. - TheMikeMiller, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Anyone know if it's ide or sata inside the enclosure?
- KennMac, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Storage. Not memory.
Edit: mudge beat me to it. -
