- moog, on 04/29/2009, -0/+14Because this is the only supercomputer we have, and it can't multitask. Superfail.
- spepin, on 04/29/2009, -0/+11I hope everyones photos gets credited.
- iseth, on 04/29/2009, -1/+7All this will do is encourage people to purposely geotag photos incorrectly in an attempt to get something inappropriate to appear at famous landmarks.
- novenator, on 04/29/2009, -1/+7Visual guides rock.
- darkstar949, on 04/29/2009, -0/+5I'm not sure if you are trolling or not, but I just scanned through the article and getting this application to work required some advanced research in mathematics, primarily in the realms of computer vision and content analysis. Just because the results don't seem to be very "advanced" doesn't mean that there is a lot of work involved that can be used for many different problems.
- SilverSnayke, on 04/29/2009, -0/+4That and it's pretty awesome-looking.
- JonTheGoose, on 04/29/2009, -0/+4"....wait a sec.......that's not the Eiffel Tower. That's not the Eiffel Tower at all!!
- RichMUrrills, on 04/29/2009, -1/+4Over to you 4chan....
- spepin, on 04/29/2009, -0/+3I do the same, or if it's something I really enjoy and want to post, I'll watermark it. I'm tired of seeing my stuff end up on other sites either with no credit, used as a background or used by someone else.
- incrediblemoo, on 04/29/2009, -2/+5The Manhattan Apple Store was the fifth-most photographed location in NYC? What a wonderfully shocking surprise, considering that the people most likely to geotag their photos are owners of capable smartphones, such as the iPhone.
- mrBitch, on 04/29/2009, -0/+3That's no moon...
- se7en11, on 04/29/2009, -1/+4FTA: "Interestingly, the Apple Store in midtown Manhattan was the fifth-most photographed place in New York City -- and the 28th-most photographed place in the world."
I'm no Apple fan-boy, but they're obviously doing somethings right. - TheVirus, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2Yes, your photos suck.
- squeevey, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2Well what do the ToS of flickr say? I know I had mine copyright protected on the site...not licensed under CC.
All they need to do is ask... - hangglide, on 04/29/2009, -0/+1The example not only does not give proper photo credit, the caption says they are the "researchers' geo-tagged photos."
- enchanterku, on 04/29/2009, -0/+1Yeah in that same vein if I'm ever trying out new hardware, new language, new whatever I always make/code/do something fun (probably nerdy) before I actually start the real project. I've found that I learn new stuff a lot better when I'm having fun doing it. Once I have my fun project done I'm a lot more comfortable starting a real project, as well as already having a lot of the preliminary work done.
- antdude, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1Don't these exist already like in Google Earth?
- Thumper13, on 04/29/2009, -0/+1So many times people searching through Flickr don't. I've been asked a couple times, but I also know a couple have been used without permission. It's very frustrating.
I don't put my best stuff up, and I don't put it up in anything large enough for a good print. - antdude, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1QA
- ZeaLitY, on 04/29/2009, -3/+2Because the faster we find those meaningful answers, the better.
- FrancieJung, on 04/29/2009, -1/+0just cause those places are thaat appealing! actuallt those have been icons for logo brands! nice article
http://www.logo-corner.com/index.php?/content/view ... - ZeaLitY, on 04/29/2009, -14/+6Well, thank god they're using a supercomputer for this instead of finding the answers to complex problems in mathematics or physics, or finding a cure for cancer.
