So says the guy using his time to post comments on Digg. - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Or maybe we mod it down because it's just a stupid political flame that truly has nothing to do with the article...
Just a thought.
...For no reason. - phcreates, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Oooh - a white chocolate 3d printer would be sweeeet...
- beoswulf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6phcreates they have to already have a chocolate printer, how else do they make the kit kat bars with the word "kit kat"printed on them.
The Kit Kat candy bar has the name "Kit Kat" imprinted in the chocolate. That robs you of chocolate! That's a clever chocolate-saving technique. I'm gonna go down to the factory, and say "Hey, you owe me some letters." - Mitch Hedberg - shadcrkd, on 10/12/2007, -12/+17Someone's been bored waiting for Wii, eh?
- NJank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There's a bunch. cheapest cost as much as a new car, depending on what materials you want. wax printers are cheapest, followed by bound particulate, followed by acrylic resins, followed by functional plastics, followed by sintered metals. $10K - $1M.

I think sony has some too, but those are the more 'mainstream' 3d prototyping companies. - BOGgur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33 words 3D Printer, Porn.... nuff said
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What are you basing this opinion on? Frankly, it would be much more difficult to make them by hand.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Burnstyle linked here for 3d printers. http://www.dimensionprinting.com/3Dprinting.html
Theres a link on the bottom to get a free model. I wonder what they send you! - NJank, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5actually, I thought it was a humorous comment. And I support DHS. +digg
- sketchstudios, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doc:
"Please excuse the crudity of this model..."
Marty:
"Yeah I know, it's not built to scale." - phcreates, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why didn't the authors just use a program that could cap planar holes? I'm thinking something like...rhino3d, for instance. You can cap all the planar holes in the entire model at once in at least that program..
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1VERY ***** COOL. dugg.

www.stratasys.com
I'm not sure of the state of Stratsys but there are 3-d printers that can print in color. i.e.- different colored faces are printed in their respective color.
This article is very cool but it is hardly new. There are many applications for 3-d printing. An excellent example of this is doctors able to manipulate 2-d MRI data into 3-d model data then making an actual 3-d physical model. This enables doctors to see and touch a patient's real bone structure. I have to say a 3-d physical model may be a step that is not needed but, regardless, 3-d data or a 3-d physical model is always better than 2-d. - JimmySnuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool!
I actually did that original 3D modelling of NYC there on a contract for Sanborn. - Nocturnalis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We have these at my Company here in NY. We use the Zcorp machine. That thing can model anything. Put the schematics in any 3d app and print to Zcorp a few hours later you have your model.
- mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Very cool - needs some paint :-)
- windex99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@elnerdo
And that happens so much, why even comment on it? If he's clearly just bringing up pointless *****, then why not ignore it? Perhaps you wanted the diggs for pointing out the obvious. - kingpomba, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4haah nice I'm SO going to buy a 3d printer when they go mainstream
- windex99, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0This is fake. The model was built by hand using whatever material they used. Not that the technology isn't there, but i think someone just wants attention.
- beoswulf, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Now every hardcore muslim with a 3d printer can have a trophy.
This is neater tho than the WTC paperweights they sell to all the tourists. - blaker, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Sweet! Google-Cad :D
- OswaldKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1"No ***** you ***** retard.
Joke
Your Head"
Not a funny one, *****. - justinsane98, on 10/12/2007, -9/+0You would think that someone who could afford f*cking 3D print could afford a better digital camera and perhaps some lights. Those pics are almost worthless. They could have been hand carvered out of white chocolate for all I know...
- gentmax, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Xoligy must be from one of those countries where the people are not allowed to speak their mind.
- Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -16/+6When you've done something as cool as that, tell me and I'll digg your comment. Until then, shut up.
Carving it out of foam? That would take longer then just doing it. - gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -22/+10I'll bet homeland security is gonna take this down for "security reasons."
- illegalamigo, on 10/12/2007, -21/+9To J4cks0n,
That's Ground Zero, moron. - jabby, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3yeah that's a little bit boring for my tastes.
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -20/+4I bet someone is gonna mod your comment down... for no reason.
- dseal, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3I was dissapointed by this article. I've seen 3D print outs before that are way more impressive and whos subject is way less interesting.
I would go as far as saying that I wouldn't be suprised that this is fake, and someone just cut it out of foam and tried to make it look like the google map. Infact, I would be more impressed. But cheers on the article link. - TheJenks, on 10/12/2007, -27/+4Way to much time on your hands there I think lol
