- L0C0loco, on 11/09/2008, -5/+128Well I have over 100 facebook 'accounts' myself. That was the only way I could appear to have so many friends.
So, I guess the assumption that the 120 million 'members' are independent might be questionable. - Trekhawk, on 11/09/2008, -4/+56You want to stay in contact with friends who you can't see often (live in other states or cities) and you don't want something as conventional as a phone call, a text message, a physical letter, or an email. Say you just want to drop by and say hi or suggest they read an article. It's quick, easy, fairly impersonal. And it allows for personal expression through photos, videos, notes, and status updates. That's sort of what made MySpace popular. At least that's how I see it.
- bubba9999, on 11/10/2008, -4/+53It's a tool for narcissists to relay information about how cool they are to their subordinates.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+40I'm pretty sure he already told us.
- WickEd101, on 11/09/2008, -0/+38I never knew there were 30,000 Britney Spears in the world. By my reckoning, that's a ***** of fake accounts.
- feliks2, on 11/10/2008, -1/+39Oh you rebel you.

- Phoenixheart, on 11/09/2008, -4/+30I registered at Facebook one year ago. But I do NOT belong there.

- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+22Throwing sheep at people.
- byukid, on 11/10/2008, -5/+22To be fair, I've created 110 million fake profiles, so those numbers may not be entirely accurate.
- jtap, on 11/09/2008, -1/+17who wins in a fight: facebook or myspace?
- Pramma, on 11/10/2008, -1/+16Perhaps there are more than a few dupes/bots/spam profiles? I know more than a few of those.
And a few pets with facebook profiles from pet-obsessive owners. - jtbell04, on 11/10/2008, -2/+16Apparently you've never heard of twitter.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+14Something like 15% of Australian's are members. It's bizarre.
- plebeian, on 11/09/2008, -3/+15Reconnecting with old friends or acquaintances. And I'm sure other things for other people.
- GamingForever, on 11/09/2008, -0/+12I guess I'm one of them.. though I never use it.
- wildchild77, on 11/10/2008, -2/+14Same thing that Digg is for. Same thing that cell phones are for. Same thing graffiti is for. Information sent in a message through a channel using a medium from sender to receiver.
- solusdotipse, on 11/10/2008, -1/+13And 50 of every 1 are on myspace
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+12No one accepted your friend requests did they?

- woodrow8292, on 11/09/2008, -6/+16So there are 120 million people who feel the dying need to tell us "Bill is chillin at home" "sue is so tired" "Dave is taking a nap" waste of bandwidth if you ask me.
- ousthouse, on 11/10/2008, -0/+9Too cool for facebook, yet not too cool for digg?
- ww3ace, on 11/10/2008, -4/+13here at college, its how everyone that doesn't have each others cell phone stays in touch
- guyinjapan, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8Sir, you win the internets today. Truer words were never spoken.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8Time to friend everyone. I will have 120 million friends and be the most popular person ever.
- mrfritz, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8wow, asia is slacking off
- DirtyVicar, on 11/10/2008, -1/+9I actually quit my account there when I started reflecting over whether I wanted all my personal ***** in some massive directory.
- bionicvskungfu, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8They put the CIA in social networking :)
- Macskeeball, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7It also gives a sort of passive interaction. Through the feed, you can get an overview of what your friends are up to, without having to actively contact each other specifically. Active communication can then result from that, and by reading their profiles you may be able to learn things about them you didn't know, or get contact information. As someone pointed out above, it's also good for people you don't see all that often.

My dog has a facebook page - juliemarg, on 11/09/2008, -1/+7Wow - those are impressive numbers. Unless people have more than one facebook page. Anyone know what percentage have duplicates?
- yanquiUXO, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6how does the person in the screenshot have 145 messages in his inbox?!
- MsArtGeek, on 11/10/2008, -2/+8On the contrary, I think it's quite easy to ignore annoying people on facebook.
- 2Deluxe, on 11/10/2008, -2/+8The reason most Diggers dont 'get' facebook is because you dont have more than two friends outside of your AIM list.
There I said it, Digg me down but know its the truth :P - wtfhaxorx, on 11/09/2008, -49/+55Proud of not being part of that 2%.
EDIT: Oh *****, actually i'm part of that 2%. Just I don't use facebook often, or better, I've never used it at all. I just subscribed. - smthop3, on 11/10/2008, -2/+8Nerd.

- Cloned, on 11/10/2008, -2/+7Buried as inaccurate. If that's true then why does every single girl I meet tell me she's not on Facebook?
- sark666, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5A key thing of facebook is you typically use your real name. 99% of the time, when people join websites/forums they use an alias, but here, if want old friends to find you, you have to use your real name.
I remember reading a story of college students using usenet in the early 90's before the web. It was typical for people to use their real names. In this story, there were some still having stories come back and haunt them in job interviews cause of using their real names. -
