You can get your own satellite? - FishHammer, on 11/01/2008, -8/+29I've never used Twitter and I don't understand why anyone would. No I don't care that my friend just made a bitchin bologna sandwich, then took a shower.
- fadango, on 10/31/2008, -3/+20These are some pretty smart moves
- JessicaGottlieb, on 10/31/2008, -2/+18Yes, it did mean that I got to watch the world series in HDTV, have you SEEN ball players spit in HD?
It's disgusting. - basye, on 10/31/2008, -3/+15Those are great examples--had no idea how useful Twitter could be. Only began using it regularly just recently and love all the info from so many people.
- pbone, on 11/01/2008, -1/+12I figured this would've been on this list: http://digg.com/tech_news/Twitter_Saves_Berkeley_S ...
- talkingwires, on 11/01/2008, -1/+12Finding cowboy boots? Saving 20% on makeup? Getting DirecTV installed? Buried as horrifyingly lame.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+9Twitter is so valuable, or at least it will be until they shut down because they have no way of making money. Oops!
- dist0rtedwave, on 11/01/2008, -0/+9If only there was some other way to contact friends to get picked up when you are stuck on the side of the road.......... They kept him company by tweeting? Seriously?
- amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -2/+10Contrived? How do you mean?
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+8First of all, 911 isn't a cab service.
Second of all, the last story seems made up. Why would a guy tell a chick he's on twitter and then post inappropriate information about her?
I've never used twitter and I have no desire to. - RadInfinitum, on 11/01/2008, -0/+7"Read on for fifteen more and make sure you make it to the end. The last one is my favorite. "
I got impatient and skipped to the end. This would not have been possible without that plea.
/Irony - shibbz, on 11/01/2008, -0/+6Yea....I tried Twitter out for a little while to see what all the fuss was about and I came to the conclusion that the appeal of that site make zero sense to me.
- WhiteMike87, on 11/01/2008, -1/+7he wanted to see if he was missing anything. turns out he wasn't.
- taiwanniggadu, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5those werent that great
- fquednau, on 11/01/2008, -2/+7My best twitter moment: Removing my account and enjoying the peace after the constant noise.
Admittedly, those were good examples, but the signal-noise ratio isn't good for my brain functions - DrZmobie, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5What no "JohnTwit: I'm in the bathroom"?
- kismetropolis, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5I read that article.
That's what convinced me that twitter had useful application, and got me to use it regularly. - plasmoske, on 11/01/2008, -1/+5social internets is serious business
- Protoss, on 11/01/2008, -0/+4Sure, but sending out a text to possibly millions of people at once? Not that possible.
- jvincent08, on 11/01/2008, -1/+4The Cirque du Soleil one surprised me.
- electricwaffles, on 11/01/2008, -1/+4Twitter was fun during the SoCal earthquake this summer
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2008/07 ... - professorfurley, on 11/01/2008, -1/+4best twitter moment was at sxsw during the terrible mark zuckerburg interview
- uuuuut, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3"Save 20% on your favorite beauty products
Latoicha Givens (@luxetips) mentioned on Twitter how much she loves Ulta Beauty products. Immediately after her tweet she received an email from Ulta’s assistant merchandising manager thanking her for her good words and gave Latoicha and many of her friends 20 percent off discount coupons."
Do people really not realize that this person is being paid to advertise?
Also, the 911 call? What a ***** loser for wasting emergency resources for not wanting to finish a bike ride home. - nobeastsofierce, on 11/02/2008, -0/+2Agreed the 911 call was excessive, regardless of the circumstance, but there could well, and hopefully, have been mitigating circumstances. Busted bike? Medical Condition? I'd like to hear more than a paragraph before passing judgment on this one
- jasonh1234, on 11/01/2008, -1/+3Facebook Status updates are good enough for me. I'm not going to fool myself into thinking anyone I know cares enough about what I'm doing at any particular moment to require more than 1 or 2 updates a day. (Plus I already have a fulltime job.)
- xino, on 11/03/2008, -0/+2Twitter can be great, but it really depends on how you decide to use it and the people you follow that determines the kind of experience you will have. For me, I started using it because I realized that I don't have to talk about what I am doing on twitter. Some times it's a branch off digg. I will tinyurl links to stuff I find on digg and I will tweet those because I have friends that aren't online much and when they are, they aren't using digg or any digg like site.
- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -1/+3Twitter? Is that another one of them world wide web pages?
- Tecton1c, on 11/01/2008, -1/+3This is stupid. None of them are great moments because they all occurred on twitter.
- miralize, on 11/01/2008, -2/+4Why is there all this Twitter hate?
- Humpasaur, on 11/01/2008, -1/+3This was seriously terrible writing, blog fluff.
- jordanschwich54, on 11/01/2008, -1/+2I have a twitter account, but have never used it- just never saw the use for it. This article has given me some ideas, but I don't think I will be using it anytime soon.
- Matt2k, on 11/01/2008, -2/+3It's a giant IRC channel. I get it. Still not interested.
No offense, I really do understand the appeal, but I've been on the Internet for a long time. I've moved past chat rooms, and instant messaging, and hate carrying my cellphone.
Just throwin' some sour grapes out there - vinceislegend, on 11/01/2008, -4/+5Knowing what someone is doing at a given moment isn't possible through other means of communication?
Really? - xino, on 11/03/2008, -0/+1I ran out of time to edit my comment so here's the rest...Any time you have a website or service where you are relying on the community's contributions to put all the value in your site or service, then the community is what gives the site or service the majority of the image that it has. Halo 2 and 3 are good examples. Some people say they hate Halo 2 and 3 and a lot has to do with game play, but a lot also has to do with the people they come across in the community such as little kids. One possible way to find some value quickly is to get the people you know personally in real life that have cell phones on twitter. You can sign up for twitter using just text messages. Once you get that far, then you at the very least have a great way of texting your friends when you are in emergencies such as your car breaking down.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -2/+3Every paragraph? Apparently not the first one, that I just read. Maybe it is too confusing for you. He was about to save $0, then was told he could save $200, made his order, tweeted it, then was told by a tweet follower he could save an additional $150.
He canceled his order to save that money. Reading comprehension 2. - bbqribs, on 11/03/2008, -0/+1IRC has a lot less spam, though. Marketers are falling over themselves trying to get more followers/etc on Twitter.
- rald84, on 11/01/2008, -4/+4incriminate yourself in a race-baiting scheme to throw a presidential election

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/10 ... - bbqribs, on 11/03/2008, -1/+1Oh, please tell that to the 2 homeless people we picked up last night.
- Halokhan, on 11/01/2008, -3/+3And then proceed to comment?
- FatLoser, on 11/01/2008, -3/+2Yeah, except the last sentence of every paragraph is basically, "Well, turns out it didn't really help at all, but it could have!"
- amdforever, on 11/01/2008, -10/+9Twitter = Gay.
Enough said. - bbqribs, on 11/03/2008, -1/+0Yeah, it's basically spam. Although now they're calling it "targeted marketing" or "SEO" too.
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -6/+2They didn't include this gem?
http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/17789356/ ... - Protoss, on 11/01/2008, -7/+2Why read the article then?
- Linguo, on 10/31/2008, -13/+4Twitter just gets so damn contrived after a while.
