- ngmcs8203, on 12/14/2007, -0/+9The majority of content fed to Digg comes from Blogs. Maybe you read blogs unknowingly.
- Hobbes24, on 12/14/2007, -3/+11anyone else still not read blogs? i feel like an outsider...
- inactive, on 12/14/2007, -2/+8Actually, I'd think that women own blogging... like they do law, teaching, writing, and higher education in general. This is one area where I think Men might be in the minority, could be wrong though.
- inactive, on 12/14/2007, -3/+8What, Perez Hilton didn't make this list?
- spyrochaete, on 12/14/2007, -0/+4Whatever. My wife and I blog nothing but original content. It's often based on current events we've read but we're the kind of bloggers who will link to a dozen articles in bibliographical style to support our arguments.
I highly recommend reading some blogs. Your stigma is outdated. - inactive, on 12/14/2007, -4/+8.. in my bed.
- Antha, on 12/14/2007, -1/+5I'm thrilled that Heather Armstrong (dooce.com) got a mention. That woman slays me.
- MagusRiverMage, on 12/14/2007, -1/+5With the jobs these women have its quite amazing they have time to blog. Props for a well time managed day.
- inactive, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3I forgot to mention, maybe I'm partial to this particular blogger... but I'm surprised Ann Althouse isn't on there. She's easily the best Academic blogger (Law/politics) that I've seen, anywhere. She just -knows- how to Blog.
- booboolean, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3This certainly is inspiring, considering that women weren’t allowed into the blogosphere until the 19th Amendment was ratified! I love this revisionist history of the internet that portrays it as being so dude-centric because of discrimination and not because most women considered it to be creepy and nerdy and they just weren’t interested at first.
There should probably be a definition supplied for what the author considers “blogging”… I see a bunch of editors and tech writers on this list who don’t actually HAVE blogs in the sense of a blog being personal web journal, and Ariana Huffington, who is more of a political pundit and television personality who happens to have a website where she, and many others, blog.
I can understand why the stigma might exist… Most female bloggers who have actual blogs (as opposed to the women on this list) tend to write boring, self-indulgent crap about every nuance of their dull-ass lives. Oh, and I guess most dudes who blog do the same thing. Sorry if I stole someone's comment. - popothebright, on 12/14/2007, -4/+7No. This story is retarded. Did anyone ever say that blogging was a "male" activity? Who? When? Show me the link to the article which unjustly assumes that bloggers are men. This is story created from a non-issue. At no point that I can remember was blogging ever considered to be a "male" activity.
- mccann302, on 12/14/2007, -1/+4It's a good list but it's missing Deborah Ng and Robin Tippins. Lots of writers owe their careers to Ng, it's a shame not to see her there.
- davidcubed, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3The post wasn't made to say Men or Women are the best bloggers, but if you look at the most notable figures on many top blogs lists, you will see many of them are men. A friend of mine, after reading such a list felt like she was entering what amounts to a men's only game. I wanted to show her otherwise, and I think it made for a great post.
- spyrochaete, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2That's just how media works. Each person has to wade through a metric tonne of crap before finding a couple of sources they trust and enjoy.
- Nowheredan, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Yeah, what's that about?
- dyreschlock, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3no Kathy Sierra?! oh well.. i guess she did quit blogging
- redivider, on 12/17/2007, -0/+2"Amber MacArthur has done it all, from blogging, to video blogging, to working on technology shows, and involving herself in many conferences."
That's doing it all? - wordfan, on 12/14/2007, -4/+6Think women are the only ones who ever get included in lists just for being women? Well, you're right. And for the record, I've never, not one ***** time, heard anybody anywhere suggest that the only great bloggers are males. Whoever makes stupid lists like this need to spank it before they do, then, perhaps, they will realize that they were just wanting to ogle the purdy pictures of women who can by gosh do some of the same things as a man can do. This is pretty much the modern day equivalent of, "I know some people of race X who are really good people."
- spyrochaete, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2You obviously don't read BoingBoing.
http://www.boingboing.net/ - RGM89, on 12/14/2007, -3/+5Man that Spiers is a hot one.
- inactive, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2I meant more in terms of academia and entrance into the field. Right now, the women are not only being admitted to law school at higher rates, but they're also getting better grades. As far as shattering the glass ceiling goes, well that's another story.
- merz1, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Even I know some of them. The list must be good.
- spyrochaete, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3My wife's is an amazing woman in blogging. Hers focuses on Canadian and American politics mostly. It's her outlet since I can't hold up my end of the conversation on that topic.
http://whining.weaselhut.net/ - Spoomeister, on 12/14/2007, -1/+32 thoughts:
1. Stop trying to make "dooced" happen.
2. If Amber MacArthur is "...understanding the in’s and out’s of technology, the web, and video much better than anyone I know.", you need to meet more people. - Spoomeister, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3I'd like to think bloggers own blogs, and that their gender is irrelevant unless they're going out of their way to write specifically from a masculine / feminine p.o.v..
- spyrochaete, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2That's about you voluntarily showing Google every single website you visit. I'm not sure why you trust such an information-rich advertising company so much. I wouldn't.
- hurtsdonut, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2LOL...Women own law? You haven't worked in any big law firms have you....its like 10 to 1 in favor of men in terms of partners.
- hurtsdonut, on 12/14/2007, -1/+2for real this whole premise is pretty lame...a million different people blog and everyone knows that. I don't see why we have to single out a few women so we can all feel better about ourselves,
- petdance, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1"Think it's only the males who are great bloggers?" No, nobody thinks that.
- fkr3, on 12/14/2007, -3/+3There's only two sorts of bloggers, kids and tards who re-regurgitate news with more ads than content (*cough* weblogs inc). I can't believe either gender would want to lay claim to blogging.
- RatherDashing, on 12/14/2007, -2/+2anyone else have google desktop advise them not to go to this page...
- mandarin, on 12/14/2007, -2/+2I dont think I even heard of anyone saying men are good in blogging. So far whoever the author was talking to is an idiot.
- thelastcivilian, on 12/14/2007, -3/+3I must say "wow" at the premise of this. Why would blogging magically default to men? How sexist is that?
- fkr3, on 12/14/2007, -2/+2You and your wife are the exception. 99.x% of blogs are spam, the remainder are divided between "professional" blogs like those weblogs inc and gawker media whores who basically are just "legitimate" spam anyway, and mundane ramblings of angsty teens.
- popothebright, on 12/14/2007, -2/+2This article is hilariously clueless. The point seems to be that "Women can write too! And they know how to use computers!" -- which seems to inadvertently suggest that there is widespread sentiment to the opposite. Newsflash: Women have been at the forefront of journalism for decades now.
I was embarassed for the author and the women who had the misfortune of being categorized as "female" bloggers.
These people are talented journalists, pundits and creatives. Who the ***** cares if they have vaginas? What year is this? - Tyr7BE, on 12/14/2007, -2/+2Same goes for higher education. Professorship is reserved for men and manly women.
- retrovertigo, on 12/14/2007, -2/+1Am I the only one what found this piece to be incredibly sexist? Amazing women authors and writers have been around for centuries. Who cares if they write blogs or newspaper editorials or books? It's almost as if the writer of this piece said, "Let's praise these women because they are smart enough to turn on a computer, log onto the Internet, and write interesting things". Stop being so "amazed" when women embrace and express interest in technology. Computers are an every-day thing now. They're not just for nerds anymore.
- digjam, on 12/14/2007, -2/+1i wonder how digg pulled only spiers in the image section...
and no pic for #1.,... got to be buried!
oh well i googled and Gina Trapani is not hot by any means! - inactive, on 12/14/2007, -2/+1Wow, so now there are right and wrong ways to blogg? Why can't people have their own opinions. Why do declare some peoples ideas better then others?
- raynar, on 12/14/2007, -2/+1AMAZING and BLOGGING dont go in the same sentence together.
- tehxen3, on 12/14/2007, -2/+1Nothing against women, but blogging in general is boring and there's nothing special on those blogs. Bunch of 30-somethings being epically boring. Yawn.
- rtorcato, on 12/14/2007, -2/+1hotforwords.com should be number 1...only videos, but text would be boring.
- blingfinger, on 12/14/2007, -2/+1Bare ***** or it didn't happen.
- digjam, on 12/14/2007, -3/+2oops accidentally buried you ... instead of digging!
- steve06000, on 12/14/2007, -2/+1Wow. I didn't think girls could blog. Thanks, digg!
- WhoDoneIt, on 12/14/2007, -2/+0I'd give 'er to Dooce. She's a babe.
- Shawn4168, on 12/14/2007, -3/+1Ugh...buried for Arianna Huffington.
- hurtsdonut, on 12/14/2007, -2/+0you've got way to much time on your hands dude...get a life other than making stupid lists.
- Internetish, on 12/14/2007, -6/+4Women are always amazing .
- KDX200rider, on 12/14/2007, -2/+0To properly assess these blogs I am going to need more pictures.....Just Kidding.
