- JorgeGonzalez, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I agree. How else am I going to know which Jews are evil?
- Fascist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6But.... we don't pay Google for its services. The most it sells is advertisement blocks and search software.
- Chaotyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Okay. I posted on the wrong page. Dig me down.
- trot71, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5How are any of these "tipping points" when Google has survived them all? There has been no revolutionary change done onto them by these crises, they continue to determine their own direction.
...another fantastic misuse of hip terminology.
Does he have another article about the "Truthiness of Microsoft"? - Chaotyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anybody read the "About" section?
"Through our implementation this mutual gestures exchange, we hope to enrich your emotional tool box for improving and strengthening your social relationships and also potentially to treat yourself more often, to indulge and to enjoy."
..."emotional tool box"? WTF is an "emotional tool box"? - SierraAlpha, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I don't care if Google is evil, they help me find what I need and that's all I ask.
- brentris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I am never forced to use Google. Even if so many other people are using it, none of its services are vital to my computing. There are alternatives.
I like that. - farther, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Agreed. Google rocks.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3uh, how is google pissing people off?
dont like their services? dont use them. - farther, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Fair enough then. I'm mostly tongue-in-cheek anyway.
- busta, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5This article just shows how people liked to get all riled up and excited over nothing. Google, as well as any other business, will be forced to make hard decisions. Since it's google though everyone gets all up in arms over the tiniest things. Google is still doing alot of things right like providing a top notch search engine.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2no mention of the anti-google site www.*****.com ?
- Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ever hear of google bombing?
Thats how that one ytmnd managed to rank above scientology when searching for scientology at one point. - postaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He didnt mention the Cnet beef either i thought that was important enought o be on there
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2CNET: We've been blackballed by Google
http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/05/technology/google_cnet/ - sage05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Since Google has become a major player a lot of people, especially journalists, have been trying to make hay out of every slip-up. Mistakes. lawsuits, etc.are unavoidable with any large corporation. The fact remains, it is the best search engine not only because of its results but also because of its fast-loading home page and unobtrusive ads. Its foolish to blame Google because small retailers don't rank as high or because there are anti-Semites on the Web. The article complains about censorship in one case (anti-Scientology) and argues for it in another (anti-Semitism). Whatever you do someone will always bitch about something.
- dannysullivan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1> Of course, he fails to answer the most important question: is he being forced to use Google and any of its services?
Dude, read the article. I didn't say I thought Google was evil. I didn't say that I dislike their services. I didn't say I was forced to do anything. I said a lot of people are talking about the company seeming like it is more evil this month, in particular this week, and whether this was some "tipping point" it can't come back from. Then I explained that actually, Google's had a number of bad weeks like that that have hardly slowed it down. It's about providing some perspective. - farther, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I agree. Personally, Google is my favourite search engine, and I consider it to be among the least evil of corporations: it does very little, if any harm, and does much good.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Keep your slash crap away from this place.
- flukierdonut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That anti google site that was linked in that article is the epitome of ignorance...sad world
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Care to point out how then? Are you going to elaborate how my life should come to a screeching halt as I stare up at the google offices with a sense of impendng doom as the imaginary scales slowly tip towards evil because one of the founders threw paper into the plastics recycling bin? Maybe youll explain how much damage was done to the very fabric of moral society when Google followed the law and complied with DMCA requests?
Will you lead me upon a crusade against these wretches who so heartlessly earn advertising revenue in exchange for providing a free service that has enhanced the content-based web? - Lenin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think this is just a bunch of nonsense. Looking at any person or company trough a magnifying glass, you will find mistakes and bad outcomes.
Overall, Google seems to do more for the good of people than the so called evil he mentions. - wtf00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1as long google keep there interface simple and my search result clean and good I could careless.

Didn't microsoft leave bad tastes in people's mouths because they used unethical means to gain the software they became widely known for in the late 80's early 90's, and then because they used unethical means to make sure people used only *their* software in the late '90s?
Microsoft has a twenty year history of doing evil. I think google is pretty innocent in regards. The only reason people are really attacking them now is because they're so big. But if they earn their marketshare legitimately, who can argue?
Used to people used all sorts of search engines that had terrible layouts and the entire page was full. Google was pretty small, a little block in the middle of the page. And they had a new way to search that was pretty cool and got you different results. And you could search images too! So people referred users to them. I did.
And now there's a few more links on google's front page, and they have that google search bar (but they also give money to mozilla if you use it in firefox) but what have they done that's been evil?
None of the points listed in the article really seem to be either 1) anything on the scale that MS pulled or 2) their own fault.
And if they were, they seemed to have stepped up responsibility to make amends every time. - mousky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is nothing but a weak attempt by Danny Sullivan to showcase his 'articles' and to drive traffic to his new site. Of course, he fails to answer the most important question: is he being forced to use Google and any of its services? No, he is not being forced. If he truly believes that Google has tipped the scales into the evil side, then perhaps he should point out some alternatives to Google?
As to the 'hoopla' around the "Tip" reminds of the vocal outcry from a few select so-called 'important' bloggers about AutoLink (you know the user-activated feature in Google Toolbar that let you link addresses, ISBN and VINs in a webpage to Google Maps, etc). There was a howl of protest from these bloggers. Fortunately, theses bloggers were out-of-touch with the average user. There is nothing 'evil' with Google promoting it's own services or products. - killerbunnie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, just like WalMart.
(not saying good or bad, just saying,,, - Homerr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A guy I know that works at Google has been talking about "good evil" vs. "bad evil" lately.
- BionicAntboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good Google vs. Evil Google:
"Good... bad, I'm the guy with the data." - Superclone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They left out the Child Porn Tipping point where Google protected child pornographers in brazil.
http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/08/23/1329220 - Killabrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, google is evil. But then again think to yourself, which corporation isn't?
- pozzoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1morganm: Maybe Google is doing some ethical Brownian motion...
anyway... wake me up when they became obviously evil and not I-have-to-show-you evil - paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1At time of posting:
BionicAnyboy: - 2 diggs
I think your comment proved its own point. :-) - Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Go ahead - laugh it off as trivial. It's not. Great story.
- Superclone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is that the same as Good Ash vs. Bad Ash?
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3It's just a search engine company people, why the hell is this such a big deal?
- 3branch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The moment you start transacting cash you are evil... why? ... because you cannot keep everyone happy, and for every little bit of cash somebody spends they feel then have a right to pull push and expect a million pounds worth of service for every pound they spend... they "turned evil" a long time ago for many of your over expecting and under appreciating customers.
- BionicAntboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The funniest thing is watching all the anti-Google comments getting the thumbs down.
Now THAT'S brand loyalty. Last time I checked, geeks kept an eye on publicly traded companies as part of their genetic makeup, but I guess this is the fuzzy new Web 2.0 world.
Cynical bastards need not apply.
:) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Companies always do the opposite of their company mottos.
Google - "Don't be evil" - Yeah not likely.
Apple - "Think Different" - Thinking more and more mainstream.
Microsoft - Was: "A PC On Every Desktop", Now: "Anytime, anywhere, any device" - Less and less true.
CIA - “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” - HA!
/Apple user since 1984

///Slashies - nlpgeek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1But Google surely is the new Microsoft. Google, with its arrogance, has left bad taste among many people but not enough to reach a tipping point. I would give Google a couple of more years before it pisses off enough people that geeks start switching to alternate Search Engines. Also, Google lacks any real competition - Yahoo! is in shambles and MSN and Ask are yet to pick up any steam.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1There is nothing evil about them, just a stupid and annoying mission statement. And if they were truly evil somehow, what then? So what? Do you have any choice in dealing with them? Yes, you do, no matter how big they get.
- jasepower, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2buried > lame
- farther, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5Is Google a corporation? If so, it is evil by nature.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Corporation - pumpedvideo, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4i will say "Jew Watch Tipping Point" is the biggest one
can Google's result stay independent?
