Netscape vs. Internet Explorer
Ballmer vs. Torvalds

Wow, some of these cannot even be compared, either because it's a lopsided victory, or the rivalry is simply outdated!
I'm surprised they didn't include Blu-ray vs HD DVD - doughnu7, on 07/09/2008, -1/+19Full article minus pagination.

- mikesbaker, on 07/09/2008, -7/+22please call the eraser mouse by its proper name - the ***** mouse
- devolved, on 07/09/2008, -6/+20Where's vi vs. emacs?
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -3/+16cable vs DSL is still a valid battle.
Gates beats Jobs FTW!!! - Omek, on 07/08/2008, -2/+13I was such a hardcore fan of Sega. Throughout its competition with Nintendo and Sony, I always had hope they would prevail. Unfortunately, they were really behind on the upgrade cycle. They would be the first to release a new graphics technology, and Nintendo and Sony would capitalize on that and add more. Sega was always on the losing edge. I stopped at Genesis and had a pretty good idea that Dreamcast would suffer the same fate, and of course, it did. Now, I think I'm just going to stick with computer games. Although, the Wii brings a nice interactive touch to console gaming...
- bgrah449, on 07/09/2008, -0/+11How old is Google docs? Old enough for its rivalry with Office to be 'classic,' I guess.
- GoEKniGhtofNi, on 07/09/2008, -3/+14Netscape vs. IE?
A dead browser vs. the "blue E that shows me the Interwebs"?
Where is Firefox? - ironeus, on 08/01/2008, -9/+18eraserhead beats touchpad any day. less motion = greater efficiency.
- Karmavs, on 07/09/2008, -0/+9G Spot. …cause it’s attached to the G key.
- jbmcb, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8Moving walkway + walking = MUCH higher throughput of people and efficiency.
- Greengoo, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8They forgot the ultimate tech rivalry -- 0 vs 1.
- Wandel, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8Classic, not current.
- franklymister, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8Microsoft Office vs. Google Docs? I'd say more like Microsoft Office vs. Open Office.
What about
bash vs. csh
KDE vs. Gnome
Photoshop vs. GIMP
Illustrator vs. Freehand
Pagemaker vs. Quark
BSD vs. Linux
Firewire vs. USB 2.0
Betamax vs. VHS
Ford vs. Chevy
The trouble with these lists is that you can always find something they left out. - ZeroFive1, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7Open Office...
You know, that app that doesn't need internet and was one of the biggest downloads of 2007... - Nayson, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7us vs them is my favourite rivalry.

- flip360, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5When this same article was on PC World it was eight pages...at least MSN only took 5 pages.
Link to the same article on PC World which was made popular 40 days ago:
http://digg.com/tech_news/14_Classic_Tech_Rivalrie ... - inactive, on 07/09/2008, -1/+5Scroll to Bill Gates vs Steve Jobs. Read here: "This summer the former evil-software-empire chairman began his new full-time job with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation". Ok now look at the URL. It's MSN.com! The irony...
- nickert0n, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4I agree, Linus Trovalds vs Richard Stalman would be better IMO
- franklymister, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4It was a classic rivalry at the time. IE was not integrated into Windows yet, and Netscape was synonymous with the web at the time.
If your mom knew what a web browser was back then, she probably would have called it "the netscape" like she would have called a copy machine a "xerox." - technogenius, on 07/09/2008, -1/+5So, to you---moving walkway beats walking because less motion = greater efficiency?
Not always - scabbers, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4Atari versus Amiga has to be in there. There were BRAWLS.
- Faasnat, on 07/09/2008, -1/+5Interesting to see how the majority of those includes some Microsoft thing or another....
- Elranzer, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4"PS2 vs Xbox" should be "PS2 vs Xbox vs Gamecube". Even though GC was the #3 in the USA during that time, it was only by a slight margin. Xbox and GC were always neck-to-neck, and behind the PS2 in popularity.
But in Japan, it was always PS2 vs GC... the Xbox was an afterthought of 3D0 proportions. - lennybird, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3I prefer GIMP, mostly because I'm poor...

- jbmcb, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3SCSI vs IDE
Microsoft vs Borland (Microsoft was the big boy in town for languages @ $500 a pop, until Borland released the far superior Turbo- line for $50)
IBM vs. Amdahl
Dell vs. Gateway 2000 (And Micron)
Newton vs. Palm - technogenius, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3How many times do you go to an airport and see people walking on moving walkways though? The people who have to use 'seat belt extenders' never do and they wind up blocking up the walkway for people who want to walk on it.
- bluekross, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3Poor Maverick has been buried by the fanboys. RIP sir.
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3What's even more ironic is that this article is biased toward Mac and Steve Jobs but the editor comes from PC World. Who is this guy? should be fired to work at Mac World or something.
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3Less accuracy = greater frustration. Touchpads aren't that much better, but an improvement.
USB mouse FWT! - Greengoo, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3In tech, we call eraserhead mice "***** mice"

- TheWebSwinger, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Vista vs. You.
- Greengoo, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2I made this same comment a ways up, (after yours, but before I read it), and yes, people in tech literally call it that.
