- inigomntoya, on 01/05/2009, -0/+41Dicked. We would definitely be Dicked.
- suttin, on 01/05/2009, -5/+43I don't see Apple tanking, but I do see Apple slowing their growth. They have the iPod and iPhones going for them, but their laptops and desktops are way to expensive for the average consumer.
If Apple wants to see a growth, they need to have a laptop below $1000 that compares to a PC with similar specs. - WiretapStudios, on 01/05/2009, -0/+35What would the new name be? Cragged? Dicked?
- aklu, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3218. MrBabyMan will still be stealing stories and submitting duplicates which wind up on the front page of Digg.
19. Digg will automatically submit screenshots of itself to itself, and give submission credit to MrBabyMan or Pavelmah. - ileftfark, on 01/05/2009, -1/+27You may be the funniest character on Digg... You've had an account for almost 2 years, but only have made a few comments. You have *over 700* friends, but none of submissions made the front page. And every comment you submit is a retarded one-line useless post. Either you're set up as some sort of red herring, or you're just doing *everything* wrong.
- JlmAWP, on 01/05/2009, -0/+25Rick Astley will, inevitably, let someone down. He will not, however, hurt them.
- jennicamorel, on 01/05/2009, -0/+24I don't give much credence to his predictions. If you look at them over the past few years, you'll see they are so general that they are applicable in any situation, much like a horoscope is accurate.
For example, from a 2008 prediction, "Many web start ups will happen, but a lot of those will go by the wayside" - protodon, on 01/05/2009, -1/+25***** the what, you have done.

- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+9Also, something else will happen to some other something at some point in 2009.
- jazzfunkblues, on 01/05/2009, -1/+10I love the ambiguity in his predictions. At least 4 of his predictions are based on his prediction that the economy will be on an upturn by Q4.
Yahoo/AOL merger has been talked about for a year, if not longer.
Twitter is sure to continue its rise because bloggers won't stop blogging about it, so it will have millions of new users that sign up for it - like me. It will also have millions of abandoned accounts - like mine - when people realize it's just not that fun to run up to your computer, or even worth those extra couple of clicks on your laptop to let people know that you're going to bed, or preparing omelette du fromage.
Hating on Apple isn't much of a prediction - people are finally realizing how overpriced it is. - CCmachined, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6(speaking from the UK here)
Ubuntu Dell XPS M1330: £594
9 Cell - 85Whr
2GB RAM, 160GB disk
Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz, Intel graphics
compared with
Base (!) Macbook: £704
Batt: "Up to 5 hours of wireless productivity" !? give me NUMBERS, Apple! i'll presume this is 9 cell / 85whr
1GB RAM, 120GB disk
Core 2 Duo 2.1ghz <- 100mhz more, neglible
identical Intel graphics
both have webcams and two USB ports. £100 more for half the ram and 3/4 the HDD? i'll take the Dell thanks. If you add the precious nvidia graphics the ratios grow even more: £634 versus £929 for identical specs aside from the Mac having a one generation better NVIDIA card. It's a whopping £300 more. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+712 inch screen half the price http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetail ...

- TheKingInYellow, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6my prediction for 2009 is that i will have my car repossessed, my utilities will be shut off and i will end up living on the streets by mid to late february.
- JohnKappa, on 01/06/2009, -0/+56. Yahoo and AOL will merge - registers YAHOOAOL.com
- BESTenemy, on 01/05/2009, -1/+6 The economy is not going to recover any time soon with rising unemployment and falling corporate earnings. In such environment the credit markets are going to remain frozen, as it makes no sense for the banks to lend to customers whose credit ratings are falling off a cliff, while the deflation is eroding the value of what banks once treated as assets and are now hiding off balance sheets.
The commodity markets are going to suffer bigger losses as speculative hedge funds continue to deleverage. Obama's plan to create 3 million jobs by wasting 850 billion will hardly break even, as by the time he steps into the office, the unemployment will already be that much. All the layoffs happening in 2009 will be extra. We can print all the money we want to finance our ponzi schemes, but that will amount to no actual wealth generation - only the dilution of whatever little wealth there's left. There has to be a positive event - some good news on which the market could rally. So far there isn't anything look forward to. Nothing. No new cheap ways to produce energy. No agricultural breakthrough to cut the cost of farming in half overnight. No political or monetary reform to rid us of rotten Keynesism and Freidmanism.
We're still fighting the effects of failed monetary policy, instead of the sources, so we'll keep digging a deeper hole throughout 2009 and through many more years to come.
44 of 50 states are having budget deficits. California's current projection for 2009 is 24.8% - that's no small peanuts. More states and municipalities are going broke. The money for paying off the debts does not exist, and printing solves absolutely nothing. If it did, Zimbabwe would've been the most prosperous nation in the world and Japan's recession would've ended shortly instead of turning into a 20+ year debachle. - orthodoxDrew, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5with, somehow, 17 pages to click 'next' through

And Personal Messages - VitriolAndAngst, on 01/05/2009, -3/+7I predict that in 2009;
>> There will be more predictions.
>> Things will get worse before they get better.
>> Microsoft will buy some companies to gain market share -- like they've been doing the past 4
>> Apple will stumble, but grow more and take up more of the PC landscape. A lawsuit to get the iPhone off of AT&T's networks will win, and will be revoked on appeal because the judge will have slept with a company PR Rep from AT&T who failed to convince the judge, but its enough to throw the case out.
>> People will be talking about the iApp platform. Microsoft will realize they missed this one like they missed the internet. Google will announce they have the gApps on the way -- which will be a rebranding of their current open source apps, but it a pay-to-play new "Cloud" package, which is the same thing as now, but hey, that's marketing. But by adding at least 8 good buzzwords, you can make a profit.
>> More spamming will add links to Blog comments. Causing a need to "whitelist" users. Top users will receive money, for placing interesting links in their web pages. Eventually, people will just create applications on top of web blogs that whitelists everybody, and allows random new people to be sampled, or to trust other whitelists. In 2010, trusted whitelists will receive money to put interesting links in their comments.
>> Jeb Bush will legally change his name to Jebb Walker and move to Texas because its real easy for him to become senator there. He will be called; Walker, Texas Banger.
>> "Change you can believe in" will be rebranded as "Change you can still hope for" and "Hang on just a few more years..." this will work, and things will get better. As of course, summer will cool into winter about 3 more times before change happens.
>> A new bumper sticker, marking the irony of the day, will be "Change Happens."
>> Global Warming will become a fact, and will no longer be debated. However, new evidence will then be found that Nicotine is actually good for you, and Phillip Morris will hire Ralph Nader as a spokesman.
>> A new application for the iPhone (will there be any others?), called iSlap, will allow you to actually create a sound message that can be sent to another smart phone, and through the manipulation of acoustic waves, actually slap the listener on the other end in the face. Digg, will then create iBury, and it will do the same acoustic slap. However, they will be sued into bankruptcy, because the number of negative Bury ratings on a digg comment, effects the strength of the slap. MrBabyMan will be rendered unconscious and will claim to have lost his ability to post stories not already on Reddit. He will win $250,000 Red Back dollars.
>> The dollar will get competition by a new US currency issued, called the "Red Back." A Red Back will only be given at first to countries like China, and banks in England, who don't want to lend anymore based upon the US Government. This new one will be based upon the full faith and credit of a consortium of Multinational Corporations. Eventually, a $1 Red will be worth $10 Greens through the black market. The black market will be run from an offshore account. A conspiracy theory will tie the black market in new money to the same Multinational Corporations who backed the Red Back. A joke of creating new currencies, and actually accepting them in good humor, will become a fad, and then a real threat. The most popular "phony" currency will be the "Welcome Back."
>> Ron Paul's Freedom Coins will be enshrined, and RP will buy his own Pope Mobile -- actually, an actual used pope mobile, that has been repainted with flames, and a Turbo Charger put on the front. Scientology will sue the new RP religious group to release their hidden inner secrets.
>> Pension plans will be found to be empty, and there will be lots of confusion about what happened. It will be determined that this was due to consumer buying habits.
>> Fort Knox will survive a fire, even after it collapses under its own weight from a direct hit by a low-flying crop duster. ON examination, it will be found to be empty -- or at least, the gold will be found to have a choclately center, once you peel away the foil. Anyone who might have known what happened, will have already left the country for legitimate reasons, to work on bank security in Dubai. They cannot be reached for comment -- ever.
>> Small communities will start forming buying co-ops. The government will claim these are barter swap meets. Lawsuits will fly back and forth. When the swap meets go offshore, the lawsuits will end. Interest in the swap meets will have ended by then, because most of it will be the crap people would have otherwise gotten rid of in their garages.
>> All consulting people on the web, with the name "Group" in their names, will be found to be one guy, and his dog. - jsbarone, on 01/05/2009, -2/+6http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/fam ...
The 13 inch white macbook is $999 without a student discount. Not a horrible deal.
Apple has always charged a premium for their computers, and they're only seeing exponential growth. I'd be willing to guess that Apple is working on and will probably release a netbook/cheap notebook in 2009, but who really knows.
Also, unless you want to lug around a 12lb note book with a 20 inch screen, you're probably not going to get desktop specs for a desktop price. Miniaturization comes at a premium (see: Macbook Air). My 2.8ghz unibody Macbook Pro works just fine for me though. I've chucked my PC and this is all I use. - CCmachined, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Unfortunately, I'd have to bet my ass on this...
#15 Microsoft will continue to sell Operating Systems - altinnovation, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Good News! It's actually march!
- TheKingInYellow, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4crap
- MisterKen, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4"(Apple failing)...a brand based on being cooler than the other guy simply does not scale past a certain point"
Someone call Prada, Armani, Nike and Rolex...they may be cool but their brand simply does not scale and will not last!
Pffft...Apple is right up there with those big guys. They've made truck loads of cash by being cooler than the other guy and have done it for years. Keep your edge and people follow. - Scott2, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3pretty hard to go wrong on number 12. I can make 100 predictions just like that and have a 100% success rate.
- joshuaer, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3My prediction is that i will digg him down!.
- badenglishihave, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3That's because he went BACK TO THE FUTURE!
- logic11, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3I think that deficit spending on infrastructure is the only thing that can really help with the overall US economy. The current bailout will actually worsen the situation.
- badenglishihave, on 01/06/2009, -0/+318. Prediction #17 will not come true.
- Jektal, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Go read his article reviewing his 2008 predictions - according to him almost all of his predictions came true. Pretentious prick.
- suttin, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3jsbarone, it is defiantly a step in the right direction.
Just think if apple could make a decent $600 laptop, and sell it in Wal-mart. I bed those things would sell like hotcakes. - bloodhound01, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3This guy can can't admit he's wrong.
- marban, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4i haven't known john or any other FM execs before i got invited; yes, it's elite but not a closed circuit.
- AllHereTruth, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3A new application for the iPhone (will there be any others?), called iSlap, will allow you to actually create a sound message that can be sent to another smart phone, and through the manipulation of acoustic waves, actually slap the listener on the other end in the face.
