- ibanezdtx120, on 01/30/2008, -1/+185Half of these aren't necessarily Gmail tips, they're Firefox extensions..
- nonsequitor, on 01/30/2008, -1/+88I would say the vast majority of those tips are either remedial browsing basics completely unrelated to gmail, or an obscure feature 99% of gmail users will never need.
I was hoping for some neat filter or label magic, unfortunately this failed to teach me anything I wanted to learn. - SpikeX, on 01/30/2008, -1/+52I love how... the title says 11, the URL has "9" in it, and the blog post counts to 10.
Did we fail third grade math? - bannus, on 01/30/2008, -6/+50Does anyone really use the keyboard shortcuts in gmail? I've never found them to be worth learning myself...
- fael, on 01/30/2008, -0/+38so, where's the eleventh tip?
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -2/+31Just cuz your system is messed up does not mean Firefox and Gmail are incompatible..
- Neiby, on 01/30/2008, -1/+20I don't recall Gmail ever crashing FF on my system.
- TheAstronomer, on 01/30/2008, -1/+19That is not a question?!?!
- tomatoflight, on 01/30/2008, -0/+16i think it's "disorganized"
- bonjourmr, on 04/25/2008, -1/+1611. Be good to your mother.
- MforMike, on 01/30/2008, -3/+17this blog is so unorganized
- nunquam, on 01/30/2008, -1/+15FTA: I would like to have a feature for inserting prepared text blocks, so I don't have to write some things over and over again.
Wow, that's such a great idea, it would be like you could almost 'copy' something and then 'glue' it in! I got it: Copy & Glue! - adooga, on 01/30/2008, -2/+15Third grade? To count to 11? You wouldn't happen to be American, would you?
- Neiby, on 01/30/2008, -0/+12You already have the ability to delete tags.
- Whaines, on 01/30/2008, -1/+119/11 eh? '01 rearranged to be 10 ... Giuliani strikes again!
- Lyanto, on 01/30/2008, -3/+12You're doing it wrong.
- Cenobite, on 01/30/2008, -1/+9Yes.
- TheDiceMan, on 01/30/2008, -0/+8"11 Power Tips for Gmail... and Firefox"
- jakobrowning, on 01/30/2008, -0/+7Yes, Yes, we all heard about that one when GMail first came out. We moved on after we read other TOSs from other e-mail providers.
- manicallday, on 01/30/2008, -1/+8You think that there's a tip available that will make this piece easier to read. Orange is just not a good color to use for links. Further, it's unnecessary to shrink the size of the question that's being presented. If you're going to border a question then border them all. To be honest, I have no idea why the questions are even needed. I could have gotten the same information off a message board. If your going to do this, at least clean it up for me and make it easier to read.
- phatvolvo, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6I do, but pretty much only 'c' for composing a new email.
- eOgas, on 01/30/2008, -1/+7Is this like...a joke?
- SPThom, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5I use J,K,X, and # to sift through, mark, and delete mail quickly.
- Otto, on 01/30/2008, -2/+7a) You can use labels (tags) just like folders. Just don't assign multiple labels to an email.
b) Click the edit labels button or go to your settings. Pick the label you want to remove, click remove beside it. - inactive, on 01/30/2008, -7/+12WTF is up with no Picasa for the Mac?
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5what?
- pitlord, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4Crashes "all the time?" I'm on a Mac OS X 10.4 using Firefox. I think it crashed a couple of months ago, but I'm not sure because it was when the power went out.
>.> - kinggimped, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4Bunch of crappy tips that aren't really Gmail-specific anyway. Really not worthy of front page, unless we're swimming in a sea of Gmail virgins around here, which I find very hard to believe given the tech-savvy nature of most Digg users.
- Soonago, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4Right.
- triskele, on 01/30/2008, -0/+43rd grade was long division for me. Where the hell did you go to school?
- Skootles, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4What the *****?
- fhernand, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5lol at the "USB breathalyzer kit"
- mwilley, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4I counted 10.
- windmillninja, on 01/30/2008, -2/+6I'm Ron Burgundy?
- Soonago, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3I still can't stand that there's no option to not have the original email text pasted into a reply. It'd be nice to not have to hit Ctrl + A, Delete every time I want to reply to someone.
- zuzardigg, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3I just wasted my time
- JonLatane, on 01/30/2008, -1/+4Well, Picasa is basically just an imitation iPhoto (I say this having moved from Picasa to iPhoto after switching to a Mac). Why use the knock-off when you can use the real thing? :)
If the Picasa Web Photos thing means that much to you, Google already makes a plugin for iPhoto anyway: http://picasa.google.com/web/mac_tools.html
There's also lots of other plugins for sharing your photos on other sites like Facebook and Flickr. - nonsequitor, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3You're a fool if you expect anything over the web to be private. If you want a reasonable expectation of privacy, run your own mail server. If something absolutely has to be private, use strong encryption. You can configure Thunderbird as a gmail client and use pgp encryption with a plugin.
- davidrools, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3i had them on, but i would always use them accidentally while typing an email. things would get sent while i was still editing...very annoying
- LeRenard, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3If you just don't use email, it'll solve a lot of this power tip problem by default.
- sonicjosh, on 01/30/2008, -1/+4I switched to Gmail after using Yahoo Mail and find it far superior.
Loads faster, labels instead of folders, ads less annoying (I even let ad block plus allow Google ads for that reason;) most importantly.. I am shocked about 0 to 2 times a year when spam ends up in my inbox. - solusdotipse, on 01/30/2008, -1/+4So useless to so many people.
- theodenking, on 01/30/2008, -2/+5Yeah but I'd rather not bog it down with a few hundred extensions I'll never use.
- Corrosionx, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3A much better way of transfering files from one Gmail account to another is to setup both accounts with IMAP in Mozilla Thunderbird and simply drag and drop the emails.
- sevenalive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3What about, Fix the iGoogle page so i dont have to signin every 3rd time i start firefox. This is one thing that bugs me, live.com keeps me signed in, but i prefer igoogle simply because of google reader and movies.
- orthodoxDrew, on 01/30/2008, -1/+4why do people back up their gmail?
- evulhotdog, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2ditto
- JQP123, on 01/30/2008, -1/+3Bonus tip: Don't expect your private GMail to be truly private. Nothing in the terms of service prevent Google from scanning your email and using the data to profile you.
- baron1703, on 01/30/2008, -1/+3No.
- speedyrev, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2I have Gmail check my regular email without removing it from the server and then automatically archive the incoming mail from that account. My regular email account is unchanged but I have a searchable backup archive of all my email on gmail.
