Why do people always say Vista? WTF ever happend to WindowsME? - wownotagain123, on 12/26/2008, -1/+108Fart apps on the iphone making 10k a day should be on there.
- GamingBob, on 12/25/2008, -14/+82Dugg for Conan O'Brien.
- JoelJ, on 12/26/2008, -2/+69That list was okay. I don't think Vista is really that embarrassing. Maybe it was embarrassing at first, but they've really fixed it up. There are a number of more embarrasing moments. Like KDE 4 when it was first released. Or if they're going back to 2005, why not back to the end of the decade with Windows ME? Or how about when Gates presented, what was it, USB plug and play? Then he got a BSOD?
Anyway, some interesting times, but I think with some extra thought, they could've thought of some better times. - s0m31john, on 12/26/2008, -3/+58Needs this Tech TV blooper
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=HqZWsJ2oO_E - random12345, on 12/26/2008, -6/+61This list is better known as, "Why TechRadar hates Microsoft." ..or even better, "Why Apple is the best company out there according to TechRadar"
Why was nothing mentioned of the 300 page ATT/Apple/iPhone bills? Or how about MobileMe and the e-mail many people lost... or just MobileMe in general? Or the Newton? Or how the cult-followers of Apple couldn't wait to hear from a guy called "Fake Steve Jobs"?
Why was there no mention of WindowsME everyone is asking? Because WindowsMe is not part of the market anymore, and Vista is still dominating- so that means throwing an insult against WindowsMe would be futile, but insulting Vista can still have an effect.
Why insult the BB Storm? Because its a Blackberry (a big competitor to the iPhone)... touchscreen BB at that. So that meant to the author that it must be insulted.
Don't get me wrong- I like Apple products just as much as I like all the others.. But the amount of die-hard brainless insults propagated by the Apple marketing and fanboys is beyond annoying. - silent128, on 12/26/2008, -1/+45If your going back to 1981 atleast pick some better items, come on gizmodo getting banned and bb storm the most embarressing moments in tech!?!? ***** list buried.

- random12345, on 12/26/2008, -3/+41WindowsME is by far the worst OS released to the public. Vista (especially since SP1) isn't AS BAD as people make it out to be. Its more of high hardware demand. As long as you have 3-4gb of ram, its a breeze. Being that its EXTREMELY difficult to buy a computer with less than 4gb of ram today, I'd say MS pushed the industry decently into a new standard. They may have tons of talent behind the wheel for all their different development teams, but to say they have ANY talent behind their marketing department is laughable. It really didn't take much for Apple and anti-Microsoft blogsters and columnists to easily pursued the general public that Vista is trash.
- smmakira, on 12/26/2008, -3/+33I agree. Windows ME was comparable to BEOS as far as epic fails go.
- Andrewticus, on 12/26/2008, -2/+30On comes the inevitable "Vista was good!" argument, to which is replied, "Linux is better."
Then on come the various distros....
Then on come the Mac fanboy(girl)s.... - Akraz, on 12/26/2008, -28/+56People still complain about Vista? ***** morons. Go learn2computer. Only idiots don't know how to use it and cry like little ***** babies.
- Thorpe, on 12/26/2008, -1/+29This one never fails to make me smile. :)

- vivvivtzz, on 12/26/2008, -0/+25no Bill Gates BSOD Windows 98?
- strangewill, on 12/26/2008, -0/+24OHHHHH FUUUUUUU.... *****...
- themastersb, on 12/26/2008, -0/+24He sure made a save there. Unlike with that priceless one of a kind item.

- Denodster, on 12/26/2008, -1/+18lets try the blue screen of death on stage.....windows 98... that should have been number 1.... no digg.
- Trigononamous, on 12/26/2008, -0/+16Embarrassing moments from the Tech industry are great, but I was hoping for tech-related (as in, not from the industry itself) mistakes and bloopers. Nothing beats Ted Steven's "Series of Tubes" comment.
- gavdana, on 12/26/2008, -1/+16I just feel so bad for the guy ...
- random12345, on 12/26/2008, -1/+15....oh... and putting ANYTHING from SecondLife in the "10 embarrassing moments in tech" deserves a bury alone. As many others in this digg have already pointed out there's countless other worthy events for this list other than the quickly thrown together list to drive digg traffic in for some ad-revenue.
- videodroner, on 12/26/2008, -1/+13An embarrassing moment in Second Life!?!?!? In a fake, digital world!?!?
Where they really that desperate in coming up with 10 things? - adml_shake, on 12/26/2008, -4/+13I don't get the hate for the Storm. I used one for a few hours and I loved it. A number of people I work with got one and they all love them. Yes there are some issues, but no more then the iphone had when it launched.
- davidzilla, on 12/26/2008, -1/+9I also agree. With a decent computer Vista runs rather well. I even get increased performance over XP. However, word of mouth and the saturation of TV airwaves with hype-fueled Mac commercials has cast a terrible light on the OS.
At the time that Vista was released, affordable, mainstream laptops were not prepared for Vista's hardware requirements . I must put a lot of blame on the manufacturers. It is just plain irresponsible to knowingly sell a product that, essentially, does not work. At the same time, Microsoft didn't seem to have any problem with putting a "Vista compatible" sticker on anything with a hard drive...
I must also note the irony of Apple poking fun at Microsoft for running adds. The Mac adds have become a pop icon! If anything, Microsoft waited too long and missed their chance to counter the hype.
That being said...
Yes, Windows ME was way more fail. - mockidol, on 12/26/2008, -2/+10The USB blue screen was hilarious. z00k likned it above.
- oboshoe, on 12/26/2008, -0/+8Didn't know that litle tidbit about the Osborne 1.
I remember when it was announced, but I was too poor to something as hightech as a "Portable computer" back then. - pox05, on 12/26/2008, -4/+12that bill gates one is awesome
- videodroner, on 12/26/2008, -1/+9I run both OS X and Vista on the same computer, and while I find myself mostly using OS X, I find nothing wrong with Vista. It runs like a charm on my Macbook Pro, and has never crashed or given me any problems.
It seems that nowadays saying that "Vista is crap" is just a cool thing to do. I guess people can be easily manipulate nowadays.
Me? I'm equally looking forward to OS X 10.6 and Windows 7. - Tennouheika, on 12/26/2008, -5/+13Note how the failure of Vista is it's perception and not the operating system itself.
- dragossh, on 12/26/2008, -1/+9Technology-wise, BeOS was far from an epic fail, compared to Windows ME.
- 1longtime, on 12/26/2008, -5/+13Wow, you really love your Vista. Good for you.
- Speed, on 12/26/2008, -0/+8He was asking for it when he said "there is no other one like this in the world"
- inactive, on 12/26/2008, -2/+9ARRRGHHH UGHHHH and SNUH!
they didnt sneek in Hot coffee. it was abandoned and just left on the disc inaccessible.
That's like saying Nintendo snook in 3 unfinished dungeons in Windwaker.
As an extra bonus they didn't even texture them!
(that's one of the main reasons that game was so disappointing, so much was cut.) - JeffMaster, on 12/26/2008, -0/+6how is this NOT on there?? this is far more embarrassing than most of those things
- mockidol, on 12/26/2008, -1/+7I agree and know for a fact they are not selling all to poorley. The main embaressment was that many shipped with the wrong version of the os, breaking many featuers.
- tattokris, on 12/26/2008, -4/+10sudo rm Akraz
- Redmo0n, on 12/26/2008, -2/+7Actually Vista runs fine with 2gig of Ram and can even run with 1gig (though i personally wouldn't since the price of Ram is so cheap). Atm I'm using 631mb of Ram with 3 Firefox windows, foobar and ATItraytools.
Also Korvins you don't have to tune the registry at all, just go into control panel then User Accounts and Family Safety > Click User Accounts > Click Turn User Account Controll On or Off. - inactive, on 12/26/2008, -1/+6this list was stupid.
- TheNyquilKid, on 12/26/2008, -1/+6I wonder what Gates thought about how Conan was handling it.
- coldwind777, on 12/26/2008, -0/+5I think the real reason that people don't like Vista is because they can't find a single good reason to upgrade. I mean, the only reason I can think of is that it looks better. Of course, those better looks come at a price, performance-wise.
Why would I upgrade from XP to XP graphical update edition? - zeezz, on 12/26/2008, -1/+5they should replace the storm on the list with #7 - your spelling.
- PHLAK, on 12/26/2008, -2/+6Burried because this guy probably hasn't even used a BB Storm himself.
- Denodster, on 12/26/2008, -0/+4its probably false
"A popular myth is that sales of the Osborne 1 were hurt by the premature announcement of superior successor machines such as the Osborne Executive; a phenomenon called the Osborne effect." - Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_1 - fuzzlog2, on 12/26/2008, -1/+5lol vista has a 'I know better than you' attitude. You think you are an admin but in vista you're not really the admin.
- strangewill, on 12/26/2008, -2/+6That's what the Mojave experiment was all about.
- Soave, on 12/26/2008, -2/+6How about Sony's press conference a few years back?
"attack it's weak point for massive damage"
"Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer!" - betterth, on 12/26/2008, -1/+5Wow, you're an idiot. I use Vista as my normal OS, and have =none= of the problems you are.
- I have decent amount of ram. Upgrade your ram, or downgrade your OS. Don't complain because you don't have the hardware to run it. That's not Vista or Microsoft's fault. That's your fault. "But betterth, Vista came on my laptop!" Who's the dumbass who bought it?
- Ok/Apply/Cancel/Deny you can get rid of the UAE windows in Vista. It's the first thing I do. http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=getting+rid+of ...
- Heavy updates of everything? My acrobat and java rarely ask to update. And are you seriously, /seriously/ blaming Vista/Microsoft because Sun and Adobe are trying to update their apps? Woooow, that's some ***** right there.
- Tons of windows starting when Window starts: Ok, you've proved it. You're a windows noob. Period. http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=msconfig&l ... Clean up your goddamn startup. -
