This was a horrible article. - abajaj2280, on 11/21/2008, -7/+152"As far as The Mojave Experiment is concerned, I’m totally baffled. If I understand it correctly, Microsoft is admitting that Vista, at least according to common perception, sucks, and then goes on to admit that it has to fool people into thinking it doesn’t suck by changing the operating system’s name. Now, if that doesn’t inspire confidence in a product, I don’t know what possibly could."
I completely disagree. The purpose of the ads was to shut people up who bashed Vista without even trying it. By changing the name, they made people try it without knowing what exactly they were trying. - diggNewton, on 11/21/2008, -1/+79I didn't realize the Apple ads were being refereed to as "Hand of God." That's a little weird, no?
- jcpudd, on 11/21/2008, -4/+65If I have to hear ghetto princess Beyonce’s "Upgrade ya" one more time I am going to have to hurt someone! God, she sucks - and no, not that way.
And does anyone really think Frank Caliendo is funny? Seriously anyone? - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -1/+49Not as annoying as
BILLY MAYES HERE WITH OXYDIGG - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -1/+47Every time I hear him say "It's made in Germany, they make great stuff", I always picture somebody cleaning up the aftermath of the Hindenburg.
... with a Shamwow. - nerdherder, on 11/22/2008, -2/+41Most of those aren't any worse than any other commercials out there.
- alexra, on 11/22/2008, -0/+38what about the shamwow commercial, thats really annoying
- SierraAlpha, on 11/22/2008, -7/+41Those gates/seinfeld ads were awesome. Whoever wrote this is a dick.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -0/+34I can't believe they missed the "build your own capital one credit card" ads:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mcnc0RQ8X2o
"Armadillo, . . ." - spepin, on 11/22/2008, -5/+37Anything with Ashton Kutcher needs to be destroyed.
- omjeremy, on 11/22/2008, -4/+34Seriously, most of those ads weren't bad at all. 6 and 8 sucked. Maybe 5 too.
- inactive, on 04/03/2009, -12/+42Dugg for the Ashton Kutcher picture.
- AManWithNoName, on 11/22/2008, -0/+26The only entertainment I get from Frank Caliendo's ads is trying to figure out what impression it is he's trying so desperately to get across.
- meatstick, on 11/22/2008, -0/+25you following me camera guy??
- SpectreFire, on 11/22/2008, -4/+23Whoever thought that the new Seinfeld and Gates sitcom was unfunny is an idiot.
- hobgobbler, on 11/22/2008, -2/+21Writer is grouchy, needs to take a nap.
- sephiroth965, on 11/22/2008, -1/+18IIRC, long before these commercials came out, there were reports from bloggers about the mojave thing actually happening. It's not staged.
- ZachGlazer, on 11/22/2008, -1/+17I agree. This list just names every tech commercial that exists
- homercles337, on 11/22/2008, -3/+19For the Church of Apple? Ha ha, surely you jest.
- DoodleMaster, on 11/22/2008, -2/+16There is no steve jobs but steve jobs and the iphone as his prophet.

He's the Wiz. And nobody beats him. - SheVibe, on 11/22/2008, -2/+13Everytime I see Ashton Kutcher take a picture, then do that stupid slide backward / blue steal kissy face with that stupid air sucky noise, I want to drown a baby.
- Jones82, on 11/22/2008, -0/+10Why is he wearing a headset?
- stealthspc, on 11/22/2008, -1/+11Am I the only one who thinks this article is *****?
Some of these commercials weren't as bad as they made them out to be. - ultraseamus, on 11/22/2008, -1/+11http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ-QSJmEgHU
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go tighten up the graphics in my own game. - ChromaVita, on 11/22/2008, -3/+13Except "That 70's Show"
- nikpappagiorgio, on 11/22/2008, -0/+10Can we add Optimum online to this list:
First was pretty funny:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EVxI0uGzeY&feature ...
then they came out with these guys and played them CONSTANTLY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yEVpfOTXWU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3z0Y4-wVVE
There was another one with a "rock band" that was even worse... - jmp478, on 11/22/2008, -0/+9Billy Mays sells life insurance now... I kid you not
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7d85T4OfqA - satyarth, on 11/22/2008, -1/+9Clicking through 10 of them didn't seem so hard this time. Awesome slidesow interface.
- DinosWillDie13, on 11/22/2008, -2/+9Buried because a lot of these commercials don't qualify for the word terrible.
- Jones82, on 11/22/2008, -2/+9Holy ***** I hate those ads
- jetcombo15, on 11/22/2008, -0/+7Popularity =/= quality.
- tikal2k, on 11/22/2008, -0/+7He's supposed to be a product demonstrator at a mall, where they normally have headsets connected to the P.A. system.
- PhillAholic, on 11/22/2008, -0/+7@simX you are absolutely right. That was the first thing on my mind when I saw one of their commercials. I even run Vista on one of my machines and I called them out on their *****. Granted SP1 is a lot better, but then they'd be all but admitting that they released a beta product to for production purposes. (And this in a world where Beta is pretty much stable, Windows Vista Pre SP1 was not.)
- RobotBuddha, on 11/22/2008, -2/+9The shamwow commercials are better than 99% of the actual tv shows out there.
- FelixDrylock, on 11/22/2008, -3/+10Buried for Frank Caliendo. I mean, the impressions get old if you've seen them 1,000 times, but he's still a likable spokesman.
Plus, why didn't he include the alltel commercials? It's the same idea as the FiOS commercial; The dopey competitors (sprint, at&t, verizon, right?) are much more likable than the good-looking but bland and boring alltel guy. I hate that douche-nozzle. Also, "come and get your love"? Every time I hear that I want to hurt a puppy.
Also, that bit about the Windows commercials just makes him look dumb. Like them or hate them, the intention is obvious, and he missed the point entirely.
Also, as far as the freecreditreport.com ads - THEY'RE ACTORS!? actors on TV commercials?! I feel so... deceived. - coldzero, on 11/22/2008, -0/+7dude they are nothing compared to the oxyclean commercials, and if u live in NYC the auto dealership/crappy acting/crappy editing Nissan Bayridge commercials.
- FreshPineSent, on 11/22/2008, -1/+7Not to mention its a totally ***** camera.
- timusca, on 11/22/2008, -1/+7Who the hell didn't know the freecreditreport.com guys were actors?
- timusca, on 11/22/2008, -1/+7I HATE the Verizon guy... we KNOW you're everywhere. Now STFU.
- Freegoo, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5Well those Dell commercials are from the wrong century for one thing.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -1/+6I liked the Gates/Seinfeld spots. It didn't sell the product at all, and they were awkwardly funny.
- simX, on 11/22/2008, -3/+8No, it shows that under controlled conditions, under a limited set of circumstances, with limited interaction with all the numbers of peripherals and devices that consumers might have at home, Vista does pretty well.
Do you really think participants in the Mojave Experiment were allowed to fiddle with Vista by themselves? (No, they probably were given some direction.)
Do you think that people had to install and configure Vista themselves like they will have to do at home when they purchase it? (No, they probably were sat down at a computer with Vista pre-installed, with anti-virus software pre-loaded, with all the Windows updates pre-installed, eliminating a bunch of *legitimate* complaints against Vista right off the bat.)
Do you think participants were given much time to play with Vista? (No, and it takes time to get past the shiny interface and realize that performance is worse, third-party peripheral support was worse, etc.)
Do you think that participants were allowed to come in with their cameras and printers and USB drives and connect them to the computer to see how well they would work? (No, and if they did get to play with peripherals, they were probably given shiny new ones that have shiny, shiny new drivers that miraculously somehow seem to work with Vista because Microsoft pre-determined that these drivers worked well with Vista.)
The Mojave Experiment invalidates *nothing* about the criticisms of Vista. - weeman43302, on 11/23/2008, -0/+5Thank you for that. Now I will think the same thing every time I see that commercial.
- Jforsyth89, on 11/22/2008, -1/+6I liked Caliendo when I only saw him on low-quality youtube videos. He does some good impressions, but does not deserve his own commercials and television show.
- MatchStick, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5I sell cameras at best buy, and I get people coming in asking for the "Ashton Kutcher" camera...
It's not even a good camera!! - alvination, on 11/22/2008, -4/+9F to the R to the E to the E to the C to the R to the E-D-I-T. RE to the PORT to the Dot to the COM, c'mon everybody, grab a bike and sing along!
- jaymulder, on 11/22/2008, -1/+6Thank god for torrents. I haven't seen a commercial in a long time.
- plainOldFool, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5Admiral Barky ... he's a salty dog, isn't he.
