-WS - mrnoob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Wow, the space cube is ***** amazing!
- AaronHeth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12While a few are neat, some are pointless. I do like the very tiny USB dongle, though, and the space cube.
On another note, is this all tech blog does? I swear, every day I see at least 2 stories on the front of digg "top 10 this, top 10 that!" I'm pretty sure we've milked it. The only other top 10 story I'm sure most of us would like to see on the front page is the "Top 10 lamest things to make it on digg!" - Azap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10That little helicopter is pretty dam cool, but it needs to be able to lift something the size of say... a beer.
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You can install the mini projector on your R2D2 unit!
"Help me Obi-wan Kenobi you're my only hope.." - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I want to make a go-cart with that engine...
- WinterSolstice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The projector was awesome - I'd love to see one like that built into an iPod or something.
-WS - Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5the v8 that was fricking awesome!
i want one.... - DarkSorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4*drooling* SpaceCube *wipes drools*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6im willing to bet that the space cube is the cheapest item on the list (at 325$)
- EPhibian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You better fly your beer fast then, it has a battery life of 30 seconds!

Yeah I saw that too. Thought it was lame. Curious as to why? You've got Blog A (techeblog) linking to Blog B (makezine) which links to a translater (Google) which translates the actual site (University of Tokyo).
I'm all for reciprocal linking, but it's not that hard to write an article with a reciprocal link, a translated link and... oh why not? The original unadulterated link as well.
Oh... and next time, the author needs to do better research. If not including the true smallest USB drive, at least a note should've been made. The (currently) smallest USB drive was featured a while ago on Digg. http://www.digg.com/hardware/iDisk_Diamond,_so_small_USB - affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5[sorry]
It was slow for me, so i guessed it was slow for evrybody else

[/sorry] - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There are several companies dealing in ultra-small footprint computing, although most of 'em don't include VGA adaptors.
http://gumstix.com/products.html - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Eh? My USB drive is definitely smaller than that — the PQI Intelligent Stick:
http://www.pqi1st.com/products/istick.asp
It IS longer (42.5 mm by my measure) but no wider (17 mm) and _only 2.5 mm thick._ It also weighs 2 g, much less than the Petito. - Zero82z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Honestly, what does it matter how small it is? I have yet to see a USB flash drive that is actually BIG, and there are none that take up an unmanageable amount of space. I prefer my Sandisk Cruzer Titanium to any of these tiny plastic drives, since it may be bigger, but it can take far more punishment(one review drove a car over it, causing only cosmetic damage). Companies should focus more on durability, speed, and capacity than miniaturization, since making these drives even smaller really doesn't serve much of a purpose.
- rjnerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its unlikely that they measured power output. Splash lubrication (a scale oil pump would be too much) is not condusive to high loads. Most engines of this sort rarely see a load. Having spent so much effort building them, its a rare (and brave) builder that will risk one in a working model.

should rename itself to 10tenblog.com :[ - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@"making these drives even smaller really doesn't serve much of a purpose"
I keep my drive in a credit card slot of my wallet, in its plastic case. That extreme convenience is not a purpose? - kgool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The fact that the V8 runs at all after being built in a home machine shop is stunning. The guy turned his own crankshaft! My father is a mechanic and machinist and has done this stuff for nearly 40 years and I would wager myfirst born he would be floored by this project. It is certainly the finest item on the list. People go crazy over cool case mods all the time, this is infinetly more work than that best of those.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i like the mini V8. how fast could a go cart go with one of these?
- Rabid_Llama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It doesn't actually work...
I can't decide if you were being sarcastic, or if you're really that dumb. - squeakypants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Worst_100_Lists_of_All_Time
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the supercharged V8 and the Picoflyer.
- absurdist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did any one else catch that if you click on the link for the Space Cube, and rollover the third set of characters from the left on the page's title bar, it will come up ready to take you to the "Downroad" area?
- rjnerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you want non-supercharged, there exist some about 1/6 that size. Supercharged, the smallest 8 I have seen had a 1/4" bore. I have also seen a replica rolls royce Merlin with half inch bore. It had a supercharger, just like the original. Yea, it was a V12.
- rjnerd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They aren't the most accurate either. Their "Smallest V8" is at least 4x the size of some I have seen, and I doubt I have seen the smallest. To be fair, the source page makes no claims of record small size...
- ChanEilFhios, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No problem, hook up the projector from the list.
- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My KingMax 1gb Super Stick is even smaller than that
Review here

The PQI Intelligent Stick might be a better choice, the kingmax is very slow when writing data. - killroy42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm now can I stick that V8 on a scooter? I'd be happy to say good by to 125cc of two-strokedness! :D
- otismedina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder why he only revved it a few times? I bet it's unreliable or something. Did they put out any horsepower or torque numbers?
- vdubski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Have you ever seen a smaller supercharged V8? That is what they were claiming to be, not smallest V8. I too have seen smaller V8's, but never a supercharged one.
- Zero82z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I keep my drive on a keyring built into my wallet. It's very convenient for me, and it adds hardly any bulk.
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gotta love the pico flyer Steve Martin is flying.
Too bad it's not for sale, what a tease. - techiedavid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My Sandisk ultra II is smaller than what they claim is the smaller drive and it supports both USB and SD.
The projector is my favorite. How can I get hold of demo unit? - BruceCLin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Get a wireless keyboard and mouse combo, then you are set.
- Rabid_Llama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Japan.
- ferrell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was my first thought as well...
I measured my intelligent stick with a digital caliper and arrived at a size of 2.8mm x 18.0mm x 43.0mm.
Ignoring the slightly smaller width near the USB port side, this results in a volume of 2.17 cubic centimeters.
The Petito has dimensions of 9.4mm x 17.6mm x 36.3mm. Taking into consideration that one plane of the object is shaped as an ellipse (oval), the total volume comes to 4.72 cubic centimeters...more then twice that of the intelligent stick.
Having said all that, the kingmax is indeed smaller than both.
Otherwise, great list! - rjnerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You will have to wait until next year, but look out for shows called "NAMES" (toledo OH, in spring) or "Cabin Fever" (Penna, in January or February). Running minature engines will be on almost every display table. You will see a wide variety of styles, and a bunch of people will be selling plans, and even unfinished castings ready to machine. From aircraft radials, to marine diesels, and lots of late 19th century farm engines. (and thats just the internal combustion engines, steam and stirling are even more plentiful).
The crankshaft is a pretty straightforward machining job, especially if you go with a pressed together design, its fairly typical lathe work. The real hard part to make is the camshaft. You will have to build a special purpose device to grind the lobes if you are actually trying to make some power with the thing. - 11familyguy11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tiny Space Cube PC > *
Combine that with the toshiba hard drive, we could be looking at (literally) pocket PC's....oh damn, monitors. - jgzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea, I would love a space cube, myself. Can't plug in a keybord and mouse, though. Not enough ports. You'd have to have a mini-USB Hub along with it.
Else, it might be handy for a "Personal Computer" - take a FrogPad, and a set of the DV920 Icuiti, and you're wearing a computer. Holy bajesus. The future is now! - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2what is the point of #5 (The projector). The projector is the size of a penny(?).
