- mrbubbleboy, on 11/13/2007, -5/+136I watch all my friends' submissions closely everyday and Digg the ones I like. I don't need people shouting them to me. The shout feature would be great if it was limited to just people ***** and chatting with each other. Right now it is being abused with tons of self promotion and spam.
- MercedRocks, on 11/13/2007, -5/+88I miss the Digg before all the recent social feature updates.....just seems too cluttered these days.
- Howtobefreaky, on 10/31/2007, -12/+65"1. New diggers are now able to get submissions on the homepage."?
"Top diggers are being challenged"?
Wow, someone doesn't like competition. Honestly, his whole thing makes it seem like "wah wah there's no longer a small percentage of diggers controlling what goes on the homepage and I was one of them! WAHHHH" - MikeonTV, on 10/31/2007, -9/+44Can this even be justified a list? "I hate change"??
- vinblackham, on 11/13/2007, -3/+37I always get one out of the group that says to stop shouting...and I don't do it that often!
- Wamzlee, on 10/31/2007, -1/+22I'm defriending anyone who sends me two or more shout outs that are just digg stories.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/31/2007, -1/+22Well, I don't mind shouting at all, I just hate people who only add you and become a "fan" to shout you to death about things you don't care about(and you are helpless to ignore them). So long as the shouting only occurs when justified(something you'd think the person would like, and you know this of course because you are only shouting people you are actually fans or friends of), and doesn't turn into cry wolf, its ok. But...right now it sucks with some people, and this makes me jumpy about other people who are probably using it properly. Some people are ruining it for everyone.
Basically, add the ability to ignore fans after they send you a shout or two, and I'm cool with shouting. - ZakNicola, on 10/31/2007, -1/+22I think it would have helped if Digg hadn't named it "Shouting."
I don't shout at my friends IRL, why do it on the net. I use the feature, but never spam, and I have never asked to be dugg. - Ajajadude, on 10/31/2007, -1/+19Well, when someone gives you half a dozen shouts in a few hours every single day, it gets rather annoying.
- Zugz, on 10/31/2007, -0/+18Is there a way to block an individual user from shouting at you? I blocked someone so now i never see their comments but i still recieve shouts from them. It is annoying. And i dont want to block shouts from all users, just this one guy.
- kweee, on 10/31/2007, -1/+19A better name: shoveled.
Your friend on Digg has just smacked you in the head with a shovel! - BrettLefty, on 10/31/2007, -4/+22I must be confused here. Is digging some kind of competition for you? Is this what you do for fun? Sure, I read digg when I'm bored, and it's very entertaining. But I never really thought of it as a "game" in the way that you do. Honestly, reading stuff like "5. Top diggers are being challenged." sickens me. Top diggers? Is this some kind of status symbol? Should I want to be a "Top Digger?"
See, I always thought the point of digg was to get the most interesting articles to the homepage. If you're saying that these shout outs are discouraging this, then I agree that they must be stopped. However, if the only reason you don't like them is because it's making the game a bit less fun for you, then I say that's selfish and not in the spirit of Digg at all. If you want to compete with people for some false sense of accomplishment, go play WoW. - JFallon126, on 10/31/2007, -3/+19wtf is a shoutout?
- otatop, on 11/13/2007, -0/+16All of this crap has been going on forever, it's just now incorporated with Digg so it's mostly out there for all to see. Some people are ridiculous with their shouts, though, and seem to think Digg is a traffic boosting tool instead of a news aggregator. GenrlZod, for example, only submits "stories" from comnetslash.com, and then sends 100+ shouts for his "friends" to Digg his submission. His most recent shout said "If any of you are running a website or blog and use Digg to drive some traffic towards your site then you know it's a great tool. But i have another idea too. It's nothing to do with Digg and it's nothing in competition with Digg." This is the kind of crap I can't stand.
- MonkeyFarts, on 11/01/2007, -2/+17The primary thing I'm concerned about is them fixing the comment system. Seriously, it's slow, it freezes up my browser for about 2 minutes per 100 comments just loading them, and it flat-out sucks. I've had it tell me that my "session has expired," and no matter how many times I refresh or navigate away and come back, it still won't let me comment. I've had it double-submit some of my comments for no reason at all. I've had it log me out for no reason when I navigate to a new page within Digg. I've even had my comments mysteriously get lost. Just *poof*, they're not there any more. Until I log out and search for them, that is. Come on you guys, is it that hard to make a good, simple comment system?
- MonkeyFarts, on 10/31/2007, -0/+15I haven't had any spam lately, though I've been getting quite a lot of "fans" recently. I have it set in my profile so that only my friends can send me shouts. This blocks my "fans" from sending me shouts, right?
- emilita, on 11/13/2007, -2/+15dugg because i am sick of all the ron paul and leopard posts
- Eska, on 11/01/2007, -1/+14I agree, Digg is going the way of facebook and all the annoying applications. Digg was a place to see the news/interesting articles, not a place to "Add a few photos of yourself to share with your friends."
- mheisel, on 10/31/2007, -1/+13I wonder if the submitter used shout outs to get this to the front page.
- echoforever, on 10/31/2007, -0/+12900+ friends? That changes friend's definition.
- toast24, on 11/13/2007, -0/+10I've had a couple folks add me as "friends" and then send shouts. I immediately removed them as friends. Shouting is pretty annoying for me.
- inactive, on 11/04/2007, -0/+10This is more personal preference, but I do agree with some of the issues he addressed. It's pretty annoying getting constant shouts for stories that have 3 diggs and you're not even interested in.
- TonyBalls, on 10/31/2007, -0/+10here's another reason why your stories don't get Dugg:
95% advertising, 5% content - evanstapler, on 11/13/2007, -0/+10I'm sick of all the SPAM in my shouts (that means you, xquizit), so I am disabling them until Digg can fix this spam issue. It's annoying, and adds no functionality to Digg, as it just fills up with articles that will get dugg because "digg-buddies" will just shout each other and Digg each other, disregarding the content.
- FeartheKnighted, on 10/31/2007, -2/+11Hi mom!
- inactive, on 10/31/2007, -0/+9"1. New diggers are now able to get submissions on the homepage." What does he care how long somebody has been on digg as long as they submit good stories.
- ki85squared, on 11/01/2007, -0/+9Welcome to digg.

- shiberving, on 10/31/2007, -0/+8Try my solution. Be just as anti-social online as you are offline. works like a charm. I didn't even know this feature existed. I'm here strictly for the content.

- RyukShinigami, on 10/31/2007, -1/+8"I'd like to give a big shoutout to all my peeps on Colney Island, Sugarfoot, Ray-Ray, Fat Country, all my heads in BK and my cousin C-Money on Rikers , Word!"
- killerofkiller, on 10/31/2007, -0/+7Create Label Digg
Create filter : Subject Digg : Skip inbox, label Digg - nonokiaboy, on 11/04/2007, -1/+7I've never had a Shout.. Ever... What do they look like?
- ReinMasamuri, on 10/31/2007, -0/+6It should be off by default IMHO.
Most people won't search through their settings, nor should they, to turn off something as annoying as this.
Hell, just do what I do by keeping it on and add this before burying the story:
Don't support shout spam: Bury this article. - mrminty, on 11/01/2007, -2/+8B==============D
- captaindigger, on 10/31/2007, -0/+6We need a feature so we can bury shouts.
- SeanEB, on 10/31/2007, -0/+6Funny - definitely the view of some Diggers who've been around a little while. Esp. loved no. 9
"9. When I try it I get told off."
I've tried it once and got shouted at (as opposed to shouted out at?) - vornan19, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7Home rowed?
- ricperry1, on 10/31/2007, -2/+8you're giving him too much credit.
- mrminty, on 10/31/2007, -0/+6The only features on digg that I use are the digg button and the comment function. I don't even bother with friends or any of that crap.
If I want social networking, I'll go to myspace. - XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, on 10/31/2007, -7/+13"bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch" - grandpa

/frustrated growl - sockpuppets, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7I like the new "what's that smell" plug in. Kevin's got that hickory-musk thing going on.
- LargeTrout, on 10/31/2007, -0/+6You didn't really have to point that out.
- FortyCaliber, on 10/31/2007, -2/+7The thing I hate most than a shout-out on Digg is a Top-10 shout-out on Digg.
- DigiDave, on 11/01/2007, -0/+5Although this post seems to be a bit of a joke - I think since Digg unleashed the new social networking tools to the site, the ethos has changed a lot. I get random gchat requests every day now. People who just find other people to IM and send digg submissions too. I see posts get 60+ diggs in under an hour. It's getting stupid in here. We went from being a democracy to a mobocracy. Fantastic move digg -- way to go.
- antdude, on 11/04/2007, -2/+7Why don't you guys turn off shouting in account options? I just need to figure how to disable e-mail notification on Digg fans. I get a lot of them!
- betterth, on 10/31/2007, -0/+5I instantly unfriend anyone who shouts me a single advertisement. I hate spam, and to me, a digger is no different than a bot stealing computers and sending mass mail if they're abusing the shout function. It's not there for that reason.
- barandon0D9, on 11/13/2007, -1/+5I agree with the spam complaints, very annoying.
