Google is a search engine, it helps you find useful things
Digg is a 'social bookmarking site thingy', it helps you find fanboy articles - canadianguy33, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8This article is so stupid I don't know where to begin.
**Hey Digg. Get your blog off Blogspot and get Leo Laporte on the boards and then you'll really rock!
/sarcasm - RyanDaRin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Nope. Not Gunna Happen.
- grooviekenn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The main difference I see between Google and Digg:
I use google to get my work done...
I use digg to distract me from doing work I need to get done! - johlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21 reason why it won't:
1. The Digg users will bury MPAA's site, RIAA's and so on. Sure, they are idiots but they shouldn't get buried. - chesterjosiah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@mcatrage
Why did you say "Can't"? How hard is it to type out "Can not"?
It's called convenience. If it saves him time, good for him. Just like it saved you time to use that contraction. Stop tearing people down over trivial stuff. - hasbeen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Crap like this making it to the front page is proof that this will never happen.
- stepanstas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats stupid, no offence, but what are you talking about.
Google is everything related to search. It is expaning to create other things such as documents, spreadsheets, websites, and etc.
Digg is like a bookmark page. It does not have a good web search, image .., video.., news.., etc. - inactive, on 09/24/2008, -1/+2Getting paid for digg is the last thing on my mind - I use digg because it's fun, resourceful, and valuable to people getting their message out when the message suits the audience. The rationale for that point is more that there IS motivation for gaming the system, and people will do it if that is not addressed. Digg has accomplished the hurdle of critical mass - which is a HUGE acheivement - that critical mass, however, brings in a new set of issues including folks that will game the system. Encouraging proper incentivization for users to maintain a level of integrity will increase the liklihood for success. Don't believe me? Have you tried submitting to dmoz in the last two years without buying off an editor?
Incentivization doesn't necessarily have to be strictly monetary - but it does need to be addressed. - surfing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish this new version of digg let you delete comments...
- raynevandunem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg is also a verb as well. Whenever you see a button at some blog piece telling you to "Digg It!", then.....yeah, you get the idea.
I wonder though, can Digg be used as an adjective? - surfing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have found a lot of really usefully stuff on Digg that help me with my job. These are not things I would have found this on Google.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can't believe that "geek mindshare" is why they think Digg will ever compete with Google. Google has become a freaking verb to the average Joe while Digg is a niche bookmarking site.
- cdlavalle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Develop a payment revenue share model for users"
As if top Digg users need more incentive to game the system. Bad idea...no money for you! - Sethwm2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think that digg is nice. For something different all together. Let Google do it's own thing. I don't think that digg should be a search engine for the entire web
- Van3ck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Hey guys, here is 10 reasons why this new and improved Screwdriver could be the new Socket Wrench!
Sorry man... Digg, Google are both very useful tools... but DIFFERENT tools.
Can Digg be improved in some ways? Sure. Could it become as well known and as popular as Google? Sure. But why in the world would you ever think it would somehow become "The new Google"??? - raynevandunem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I see where a comparison between Google and Digg can be relevant:
whenever I Google for a particular tech topic or a particularly important site or blog piece, a few Digg stories which link directly to the site or blog are usually found at the top of the results.
Thus, even if that site may have disappeared a while back since it was Dugg, any valuable information on the site can be found through the Digg submission. A bit like Google Cache, but not directly archiving the site.
Del.icio.us could also work like that, but they block web spiders from indexing their site thumbnail cache. - toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1GDigg?
- secureslash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1yeah your thoughts may be a base of new revolution in Search engine world, But a better algorithm then G Y M and others is important.. And search 2.0.. Much more....
- DarthBibble, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Digggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg?
- sicc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'd like to see a forum where users could just talk baout general crap.
