- chocobomog, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40I'd never thought I would say this, but I agree with Calcanis on this (his blog is linked in the article). Adding apps to Facebook may be its eventual downfall. There are now so many different apps that require notification and approval that people are spending more time on Facebook than actually doing what they are writing about. How do you watch so many movies when all you do is send all your friends notices on movies they should watch and request reviews from us?
The nice thing about Facebook is it was a easy, clean way to keep up with friends. But now with so many commercial apps, it is becoming bogged down and is harder to maintain serious communications from friends with all the "spam" I receive from people who want me to become a Pirate, Zombie, or Chuck Norris acolyte or join a pointless group I will only leave in two week.
The people who enjoy the new Facebook are the marketers (including bloggers and web media gurus) who can now add hundreds of "friends" who they can spam their current videos and products to. What about those of use who only want to keep in touch with our old high school friends and not feel guilty for denying a friend request from our cousin's girlfriend's brother who we met once at a party and is now selling hair products?
I guess it is a generational divide. - shibbz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17I'm a big fan of the Digg application.

- patsfan456, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I believe that there should be a limit on applications for your page, preferably between 3-5. Seriously, some people have so many applications that I think they're trying to crash all the Internets. People need to learn that I don't care what level zombie you are, or which friends you like more than others.
- ZeroArmada, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I'm turning down apps left and right, I even changed my status to say so. I'll stick to what I have; even though I actually have what I think is a lot of applications, my page is still pretty compact compared to my friends that grab everything under the sun.
Also, I refuse to be a Vampire, a Werewolf, a Zombie, or any combination of the three (one of my friends is a Verebie -_-;). - SmackMyMac, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10My Favorite App is the FSX (Fantasy Stock Exchange)

Exactly what I wanted to say. - TomRemixed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I got flixter and that's it. I can't believe the put superpoke on there. Poking was stupid in the beginning and not it's even more stupid when you can "throw sheep."
- rocky1138, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm surprised no one mentioned Searchgive, the search engine application that donates ad money to charity every time you search:

- lroche, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The best apps are superpoke and free gifts imo. Personally I think people have way too many apps displayed on their profiles. I wish more people would unclick the "display as box" option. I really don't care what your horoscope says.
- aedes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the worst app is definately either "top friends" or that stupid likeness quiz app where people take quizes and compare how alike their friends are.... ughh... i feel my brain melting out of my ears just thinking about them. (NO! i will not be your top friend! that's just retarded)
- h4mx0r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I only use 2, 3, and 8.
The rest is either useless clutter or things that don't affect me yet. Superpoke is really popular among my friends though, and iLike isn't really the best music app on facebook... - Msoltanian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Fantasy Stock Exchange is extremely fun.
- Sonizel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i just added that, seems so fun!
- aedes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0uhh... i hate to rain on everyone's parade here... but you can do all of that just by editing your facebook settings. that's what i did cuz the new apps are annoying as hell. you don't need to use greasemonkey.
- aedes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0ok, this is less feasible to accomplish by editing settings. It can kinda be done (via minimizing any apps you don't like), but this is much cleaner, and works for any app it seems, even if you haven't come across it before. I will be using this script now. sweet.
- fortezza, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I havent' tried facebook yet. Could someone post a link to a trustworthy review of the site and its feature?
- kxhoopshooter, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You little rascals.... I remember when these stupid applications first launched, I went OMGWTFBBQ?!?!11one! And I had a horrible vision of the eventual downfall of facebook itself...
And then I thought about creating line graphs of how popular each application got with the number of users since it seemed to grow exponentially and it would've been cool and diggworthy but alas, I was not programming efficient to do this - gungaroo22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Shoot. Ok. I totally messed up. This was one I meant to put up there.
This hides apps from people's profiles. You won't even know they have apps. - HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1That's actually quite brilliant. +1 for you.
- djspanky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I added three of those. Nice list.

http://auk.kg/academics_programs_bas.html
http://www.mkzine.com - chilio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0FYi - poking opens up your profile to the person that receives your poke and when they poke or send a private message back, you'll be able to access theirs. It's actually a tool to get to know new people, it's not as pointless as it seems.
- jordanfirst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0iDescribe allows you to non-anonymously describe your friends in 5 words from a ready-to-go list of words that we've selected for you. The words that you are described with are then displayed on your profile in a neat way, with the most common words appearing first to offer an honest look at how others really view you.

- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3The nice thing about Facebook /was/ that it was simplified and unified. Their "applications" have completely destroyed that. You can *sort of* turn them off and hide them, but they still manage to somehow completely dominate the profile, because everyone has like 20 of them. It's completely ridiculous, most of them are completely retarded, and it's only going to get worse.
Facebook is really setting itself up to be an advertisers wet dream. I mean, you've got people voluntarily spamming their _own_ profiles. They is trying really hard to actually be more spam filled than MySpace. It's a hard task, but they seem up to the challenge. - bacon_skoda, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3so facebook is growing up to become myspace?
...wait a minute here... - bacon_skoda, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1wait. there are applications?
- bobappleyard, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1They're all essentially the same application, only with slightly different levels of retardation in the concept/design. All they do is add clutter to what was a relatively clean design.
- FastZ, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1I have a Facebook page and a Myspace page both and Facebook is just ***** boring as piss. At least on Myspace you can modify whatever you want, choose who you want to be friends with without having to send them a friend request first, etc etc. Myspace > Facebook

2. Some of the apps are quite useful & fun
3. Some people like using the apps
4. Whining about the apps is lame.
