Why don't they just go at night? - yoblin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63So you're saying you were expecting a video of water actually flowing uphill, huh?
mhmMMmmmm..... - Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49Panther, that's just ignorant. Escher is famous for creating buildings that can ONLY exist in 2 dimensions.
Here's a video proving that the waterfall can not be reproduced in 3D:

- Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40But he did pull it off. Wasn't the objective to make water appear to flow upwards in the same way Escher did in his drawing?
- znxster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35Really well done and then give you a peak at the how. +digg
- Settra, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19the water is going down..up..what..OW GOD MY BRAIN
oh..side view..i still..wait...no :( - distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11em, the water flowing up hill isn't the only thing that makes it impossible...
- Rasputen, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17I never understood the links category, isn't every article a link? is this jst the dump all category?
and will this comment be modded down? - pranay, on 10/12/2007, -13/+21This has been the fastest digg on a Saturday morning. I predict it will have 1500 diggs ( /-5%) by end of the day. If only the video quality was better, and the accompanying article actually explained how it was done, it could have easily crossed 3000 diggs. Anyway, just brilliant! Links like this remind me why I keep coming back to digg every 2 hours.
Oh, on a side note, this comment will be buried with -22 diggs within 3 hours =) - Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Am I the only one who was expecting the water from the water fall to go up? =P
- Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Yeah and it's possible to walk on the sun. Someone can make it happen someday as long as they make a protective suit that will keep the heat off the body.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -4/+111/2 of digg users fail to grasp this story at all.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Digg is the raid of websites.. kills a website dead.

http://www.techeblog.com.nyud.net:8090/index.php/tech-gadget/video-eschers-waterfall - mrhaines, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7just don't click on the underlined word "video" (scroll down instead) . The underlined word "video" takes you to a porn site.
- Callahan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Another video of a different way to do it(computer animation)
http://www.cs.technion.ac.il/~gershon/EscherForReal/WaterfallFull.avi - Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For anyone interested, there are some cool interviews on Escher's site...

The man was brilliant. - purpleplatyduck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I want one! ...when will a USB-powered model show up on ThinkGeek.com?
- boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's a transcript:
*gurgle*gurgle*gurgle*gurgle*gurgle*gurgle*
No, there really isn't sound on this one. There wasn't sound on the original drawing either. I wouldn't say that you're missing much. - drigz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4RSS reader, every few minutes :P
EDIT: 15, to be precise, so don't accuse me of overloading their servers. - monsieurgrand02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Pantherx, you're a complete idiot for even making a comment like that. M.C. Escher's pictures, like the one in this digg, is impossible to create in the real world. The way Fukuda recreated it is exactly how it is supposed to be. That's the beauty and the science behind M.C. Escher's work.
So, he actually did pull it off you *****. - Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I used to stare at Escher paintings for hours as a kid, and thought it looked easy to make one of my own. Little did I know that a solid background in mathematics and physics was necessary.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2bede...didn't the Polish government work on that project right after they perfected the screen door for submarines design?
- saftaplan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3These guys http://web.archive.org/web/20030612050659/http://lipsons.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/escher/ascending.html made "Ascending and Descending", a.k.a. Escher's endless staircase... in LEGO! Pretty much the same technique as used here.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2~1550 diggs now... ;)
- kaniz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This guy does alot of great optical illusions lik that, google his name. His shadow sculptures are pretty damn amazing.
- drigz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I wouldn't call that a proof, but still an interesting video. It doesn't really need proving - obviously, if the water falls straight down then follows a path that goes backwards (as the drawing suggested), it cannot end up where it was before.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4This figure alone gave me a headache until the camera panned. I can usually reason out optical illusions, but this one had be spinnin'
- ubergmr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2notpron!
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1www.deathball.net/notpron
I think it's level 12.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Your not supposed to look at the waterfall only. Obviously you're pretty superior in your stupidity.
Look at the canal that zigzags through dimensions and climbs some odd amount of feet while still seemingly resting on the ground. That's the illusion. - beststrollers, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1http://www.waterframe.net/genevainindoorlakeparkwa ...
- Jams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who else was tricked by the "Video" hyperlink?
- Jack9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1or with enough kinetic energy. Drop water down a halfpipe. You can make a slightly inclined ramp that the water will flow up with the kinetic energy.
- pizzafiend, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Reminds me of this:
http://www.grand-illusions.com/images/articles/opticalillusions/dragon_illusion/dragon_illusion.wmv - mike1979, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This guy is the man!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks! I knew i had seen similar real life escher structures, but couldn't find the link...
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2yep, intelliTXT ads are pretty common nowadays...
- CubiX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Amazing.
I did have to watch it twice to see what's actually going on. Probably because of the poor quality. - nayr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2guilty :)
- dumky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Reminds me of this uphill flowing water illustion:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3046791.stm - Quake120, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Somebody should build a room with all of the stairways... and then make it functional so I can go down one flight of stairs and end up on the ceiling going up on another.
- Dayyve, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Cool! Thx for the link PowerCow.
Digg to MC Escher as well for being the coolest artist ever. - olliholliday, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2they had "water going uphill" at the chelsea flower show a few years back, they did it by having a stream of water going down a glass tube.. but inside the tube was static water with air bubbles which were moving upwards. it looked very convincing though i can't find any pictures.
- spyres, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Neat idea, but the video quality is terrible to the point I can't tell what I'm supposed to be seeing.
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Also, see http://www.cs.technion.ac.il/~gershon/EscherForReal/ ...
- torcik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still have not not grasped how your country voted for Bush
(Or marrying your sisters) - Cyborg771, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3With enough pressure, water can be moved in any direction. Even uphill. This however is just an illusion.
- vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Looks like they hired the same guy that shoots videos of UFOs or Alien Autopsies.
Here's an idea, after being oh so clever to make a sculpture that has water flowing uphill, get a ***** camera that can actually take usable video. My cell phone takes better video. - cgy01, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2where's the sound?
