That about sums up it. Thanks, alex.bosworth! - solrac149, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Boingo Wireless has many airports in their network. Here's an airport map:

- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The first airport that I was in that had free Wifi was Las Vegas - and it really made my waiting time a lot more bearable. It really should be offered as a free service in every airport.
YVR in vancouver has a "limited" free wireless. You can browse their internal network and check flight data and such, but if you want general internet access, you need to pay for it (which isn't good).
I believe they should offer a free "low speed" service (say, 128kbps max), and have a paid service for those who would like faster access. Unfortunately many airports have contracts with wireless companies that want to squeeze consumers, so they can't provide their own free access...- vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Last time I was at the airport the "free" wifi wasn't assigning DHCP properly. After trying to connect for a bit, it was actually more entertaining to sit and watch other people try and LOUDLY complain about not being able to connect.

(and this was all on a Windows laptop)

- drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Shoutout to the days when internet was free in airports.
Seriously i love capitalism when it doesn't make stuff more expensive...- jasyn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1"Seriously i love capitalism when it doesn't make stuff more expensive..."
hehe .. you made a funny

- scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A lot of airports will block tcp/udp traffic but will not block ICMP traffic. So if you have a few mins before your next trip setup an ICMP tunnel server so you can get free wifi even whey they try to make you pay
http://www.cs.uit.no/~daniels/PingTunnel/- lydgate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, that's awesome.
- noouch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1At the airport here in Stuttgart, WiFi is free, airport-wide...
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet. Las Vegas and Portland, the 2 airports I visit, both have free net access.
- addisonj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My favorite airports are Boise, ID (local airport) and Portland, both have free wifi and are really quick to get through :D :D
- B-o-K, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Pretty useless to bring your laptop / notebook to an airport if it's an Apple or Dell, eh? };-)
(OK, depending on what cpy. your flying with)- Slooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok, I have a Dell and I bring it to the airport. I use it at JFK and PBI, both of which are free. So, no.
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about non-U.S. airports?
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MCarren airport in vegas has absoultely the best wifi i have ever used at an airport free or not.
- stephenwq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People Pay to use Wifi?
- felixflores, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish I would have known about this before my flight to Vegas.
- mjenkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good list although I see some missing airports.
FYI since it's not in the list: BDL (Hartford/ Springfield) - at least 2 companies there are running wifi and they are wide open without any encryption. YMMV- sam1am, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In fact BDL's wireless in the concourse says on the splash page that it is free for customers/travelers.
- lexluth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is Sam from TravelPost.com - thanks for pointing this out - we've updated the list with the corrected information about BDL
- abudak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BDL has been added to the guide!
- bigsnake49, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I never had any luck connecting to the BDL network. I have a Dell Latitude D610 with the Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI Card. What tweaks do I need to make in order to connect? I have no problem connecting to other access points, but I have been unsuccessful connecting to the "BDL" SSID. Itr's really frustrating when the guy next to you with an IBM laptop has absolutely no problems. I suspect it has something to do with a unusual DNS server, but not 100% sure.
- sam1am, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In fact BDL's wireless in the concourse says on the splash page that it is free for customers/travelers.
- pendetim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This list seems to be missing the Free WiFi found in some business clubs, like the Continental Arilines Presidents club.
Let me add my finding from these Continental clubs:
Free in ORD
Free in ATL
Free in EWR
Free in DTW
Otherwise an Excellent listing! Thanks!- orrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0True. You can often get free wifi if you sit just outside of the club.
- scorpy01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I fly in and out of PIT and can say the wireless is quite dependable. Between the free wifi and the great airmall, getting to the airport early is a pleasure. It's also one of the easiest airports to navigate.
- ewooding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WiFi in terminal 6 at JFK i have NEVER had luck connecting to. Even sitting under the little sign that says "HOTSPOT!"
Cool list though none the less. - pfischer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You missed one. Corpus Christi, TX (CRP) has had free WiFi for over 6 months. It is still free but may transition to a paid service by the end of the year. The city-wide WiFi is on the same system. It is free, but they plan to move the city over to a paid service.
Hopefully they'll keep the airport free.
See http://www.cctexas.com/wifi/ for more details.- abudak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Corpus Christi has been added to the guide!
- lexluth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is Sam from TravelPost.com - thanks for pointing this out - we've updated the list with the wifi information about CRP airport.
- duffGeiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed! PIT is a great airport for WiFi and the shops. Unfortunately you need a ticket to visit the shops. :(
- scorpy01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah. I used to volunteer to pick up friends and family at the airport just so I could go early and just walk around, enjoying the shops. Last time I got to do that was July, 2001 when my husband returned from a business trip to Hawaii. Now when I pick him up I just hang out at the baggage claim area. Yuck.
- souljah4jc916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very informative article. I haven't actually used any airport wifi connections but it seems very beneficial to the frequent flyer. I appreciate the relative ease of reading this well-organized table. I wonder how this might play into airport security and information transmission. Perhaps a more detailed or specific article on wifi security in airports would provide this information concerning limits or physical boundaries of use. Just an idea =)
