Seriously, does everything have to go through someones blog?? - filefly, on 10/12/2007, -4/+58Who thought it said "whiskey"?
*raises hand* - jeffness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21agreed. i don't think the linked blog even linked wikisky. i had to type the address in myself. retarded.
- Cyberen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I think Celestia is better.
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10That's like saying Google Earth is better than Google Maps. It is apples and oranges buddy, this is web based, a different..universe if you will... :)
- cwshea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I thought that said whiskey.
- Toshibi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm a fan of Stellarium.
- adamc80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Celestia looks like it has some good features. It's here if anyone wants a look: http://www.shatters.net/celestia/gallery.html
- adamc80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5OK I know what the problem is. Don't search for any planets or rock bodies, you won't find them. It's stars only. I just searched for Aldebaran and it found it first time.
- fartmungerer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11i can see my house

Um, not to pry, but which planets are bothering you?
***trying to think up a medical term to describe this***
Don't know about the rest of you, but I thought it said "Rusty Nail on the rocks, water back." - ellisgl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Go whiskey!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3> Seriously, does everything have to go through someones blog??
Yes, because the way Digg is setup you're supposed to link to an "article," which implies a news story. If you linked directly to a product web site you wouldn't be linking to a story, you'd be linking to a product and that would be spam. The point of linking to the blog is to give your impression of the product and then provide a link. - JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yep, but the OP was wrong, doesn't mean I should be. :)
- Sneakernets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Ok, which button fires lasers?
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Couldn't find "sun"
- theGOG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Of course, it's a wiki, in case the stars ever move.
- 0crabby0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Try Sol

Note that it IS a real wiki - metajoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a joke when compared to Celestia. Now there's an awesome space exploration program for you. Hell, you can even add planets and stars to it for fun.
- jtrost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why is it I can't find Earth? I feel like I'm aboard the Battlestar Galactica.
- adamc80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You can only search for stars. Think B I G
- adamc80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah lol, haven't you played Frontier as a kid? :P
- adamc80, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This guy's right. Think I'll stick with Stellarium a while longer.
- LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8This may actually come in handy for me when I move from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. Gotta learn all sorts of new constellations and what I can actually see from there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2we really shoud have a captcha that determines whether you know the difference between 'wear' and 'ware'
- SoundJudgment, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5How long before Google buys them out?
- cwshea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm downloading celestia right now. Looks sweet.
- adamc80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2*goes to have a look for Celestia*
- astro900, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check out sky surveys on WIKISKY:
Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) - http://wikisky.org/?zoom=7&ra=12.44&de=13&img_source=SDSS
Infrared Astronomical Satellite Survey (IRAS) - http://wikisky.org/?zoom=3&object=Orion&img_source=IRAS - JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Witty reply to self:

- Sneakernets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That sounds like LSD more than Whiskey.
- adamc80, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Jesus man, how slow is Wikisky now that it's been dugg? If you don't like it, close and free up some bandwidth peeps!
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@JamesWilson
Well, the topic title does say "Wikisky is like GOOGLE EARTH for space" - canim, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0wouldn't it be great if we joined with nations such as Germany in providing universal health care? That way we could have reciprocal arrangements and travel freely.

- feld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I first read the headline as, "WHISKY is like Google Earth for space." I'm glad I read it wrong as the space program has enough issues as it is...
- carefreetoast4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Did anyone else notice that on the getting started page it said "Greed ON/OFF"?
- adamc80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Toshibi, I have Stellarium too :) You don't get SLOAN pictures in that though.
- nehra90, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0woa does the blog fill in ur actual location?
or is the blogger from Kingston, RI???
Cause thats where I'm from and I was looking for a star finder thingy yestersay....weird... - masterofjoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Damn, I read that as whiskey. I'd like to get hammered with the Google Earth developers.
- fiver22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@johnlandes, and the quick to yell "blog-spam" crowd: While blog-spam can be annoying, links to blogs *can* contain useful information: commentary, reviews, context, explanations, etc. of an article/link. -I often feel that some on digg are too quick with the "Dirty Blog-Spam!" response.
That's not to say that I don't appreciate someone taking the time to post a direct link in the comments: there are times when I want to go directly to the article/link and want to skip opinions about it. - communityiskey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Sweet!
- wirelesshnic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Just say no to blog spam!
- andy3109, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Can't find "earth" or "mars"?
- swizzcheez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Personally I'm in more favor of the heavenly body currently at http://wikisky.com but YMMV.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Did anybody else keep reading "WISKEY" instead?
