- akchrs, on 07/17/2009, -0/+30I whipped this up in photoshop. Comfortable, yet stylish.
http://img36.imageshack.us/i/spacesuit.jpg/ - shutaro, on 07/17/2009, -6/+33I hope it has lasers.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -3/+27It'll look something like these: http://images.starpulse.com/Photos/Previews/Star-T ...
- Homerr, on 07/17/2009, -1/+16Some pics of the Apollo suits (under the white outer fabric):

http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/alsj/a17 ... - techobo, on 07/17/2009, -1/+16I always wondered if one of our astronauts ever ran into aliens, if they would think that he was naked even though he was wearing his space suit since they had presumably never seen a human before... I think I've been sitting at my desk too long. Time for a break.
- skinny01, on 07/17/2009, -0/+10The ufo guys say that what people have seen of aliens is in fact a grey skin tight suit and that the big black "eyes" are just a protective cover, similar to sunglasses.
- akatsuki, on 07/17/2009, -1/+8For a counterpressure suit, it'd be better if they were disposable spray-ons that essentially coated the body of the astronaut and then shrunk to fit as they dried - I don't think that materials science is at that point yet - but it would have the advantage of not really needing to size for a particular person and not having to wiggle in and out of a super-tight outfit.
- thehyker, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6So basically... shrink wrapped astronauts?
- Hoogs, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5They need to make it look awesome to get people interested in space exploration. Seriously. They've got to shake the image of space exploration only being interesting to "nerds", and this is the perfect way to get the ball rolling.
- longlukey, on 07/17/2009, -2/+7All spacesuit designs must protect humans from the grim effects of depressurization, which occurs during sudden exposure to a vacuum. Under such conditions trapped air can expand and tear fragile tissues in the lungs' air sacs. And water or other fluids vaporize into gases that cause bodily swelling, interfere with blood circulation, and cool the mouth and airways to dangerously low temperatures as they escape the body.
....holy *****! - KennMac, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4It will look like Gordon Freeman's hazard suit.
- Jektal, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3Will it come with an automatic morphine drip too?
- burketo, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3It should look like this:

- Arxor, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Digg might be hating on you right now, but that show was awesome.
I was just mad that they always seemed to put the best cartoons on when I needed to be going to school.
Either that, or 5:30am in the case of Exosquad. For shame, networks. For shame. - tehAleksandrRox, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Exploding, freezing and suffocating all at the same time must suck.
- CorrosiveMan, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2"Major fracture detected. Morphine administered."
- TracerMan, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1419/531239034_b782 ...
- Jektal, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2...That'd be a lot of gravity...
- keysmachine, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3it should look like the suit you have in dead space
- DirtPile, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Astronaut Jones would approve.
- Jektal, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Or how about a suit which can be constricted through cables run through it? Think of something like a jumpsuit covered in rubber bands that are normally loose enough to make putting it on easy. And then once it's on, each band is pulled tight, and the excess is tied off or clamped.
- fabriciom, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2What you never seen Total Recall?
http://www.bestweekever.tv/bwe/images/2008/10/Tota ... - defektiv, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1All we need to do now is master control of gravity. If we knew how to generate small gravitational fields, maybe it would be enough to keep all the air and moisture from escaping our bodies into the vacuum of space when not protected by an artificial atmosphere that current space suits provide.
- rootwitch, on 07/17/2009, -4/+5Sharks with lasers even.
- Azsen, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Are you kidding me? Just send Optimus Prime.
- Balanced, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1I've heard that the movie version of 'explosive decompression' is not particularly realist... No heads exploding, for example. But lungs bursting, especially if you try to hold your breath could be very painful.
- FXNGLAS, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2I never even realized that the suit hasn't changed much since the early days.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1haha wow they looked so corny under there.
- akatsuki, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1I think you'd want even pressure instead of areas of high pressure and other areas of low pressure.
- HavocXphere, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Suit up!
- RegularUser, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2Ultimate space suit:
http://www.matt-that.com/special-content/images/Se ... - defektiv, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1Scrub the carbon out of the mixture and have a small tank with pure O2 to recirculate with the scrubbed mixture? I don't know, I really didn't think it out that far. I don't see an easier way to perfect the system they have now without finding a pliable material to use as an exoskeleton that won't allow the body to decompress.
- gdha, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Hopefully something well designed and with sufficient technology.
- PlatinumOGKush, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1How about some hypothetical pictures? No?
- S1ngular1ty1, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1What don't you understand about "must be pressurized" or you die?
- greevar, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Actually, a powered suit would probably be the way to go in order counter the resistance of a full pressure suit. After all, they are bulky enough to add the mechanical components required. Perhaps a PVC shell with the standard flexible materials they use for the joints?
- manitoba98xp, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1You need fresh air to breathe. Otherwise you'd suffocate on your own carbon dioxide, like you do if you tie a bag around your head. (Don't try that at home. Or ever.)
- DirtPile, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1In space, no one can serve you ice cream.
- fabriciom, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0those are obviously made of kevlar fabrics.
- jrm125, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1Wow...the use of this meme has gotten downright craptastic.
- bazzarr, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0When I was a kid back way back when, I had a toy called Major Matt Mason (only the coolest space toys EVER). He was a rubber Gumby type spaceman that wore what they describe now as the counterpressure suit and this was back in the 60's!
He also had this one outfit called the "moon suit" that looks like it kinda could work in real life.
http://www.majormattmason.net/6301.htm - Rankao, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0I just want to see a pig decompressed.
- WaCkYmAk, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1Hopefully like these:
http://image09.webshots.com/9/7/17/52/115071752dtB ... - RobotDoctor, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0Synthetic fibers force the wearer to bear the weight of life-support systems, why not use a exo-skeleton mech suit? How far away is iron man technology?
- fabriciom, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0Lies! All lies!
- fabriciom, on 07/18/2009, -0/+0You don't understand what sarcasm is?
- anthropodeus, on 07/17/2009, -2/+1gee, it's almost like humans didnt evolve to live in a place that has no atmosphere.
can't we just use robots outside the transport craft? it would be SO much easier. -
