- wonderchemist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+38All these worlds are yours except HD 189733b.
Attempt no landing there. - fffizzz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+34This stuff just blows my mind.. It's hard to imagine we can possibly know so much from something so far away.
- Seph7, on 10/11/2007, -4/+34Why do we have to live in a world where funding for space exploration takes a back seat to war? When did the human race become intent with being static?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+26Huuuuuuge defeat for Flat Earthers!
Huge! - TheDHC, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12space is awesome
- SmackMyMac, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15Is Kevin Costner on that planet?
- smackywentz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9What's even crazier is a planet that close to it's Sun has water. Also it's 1.25 times the diameter of Jupiter? Color me shocked.
- FearlessFreep, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Day 1 of it's existance. Haven't you been paying attention?
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Duplicates, Duplicates everywhere! http://digg.com/space/First_planet_with_water_is_spotted_outside_Solar_System has almost 2k diggs!
- Genady, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Shhhhh no one tell the Ice Pirates!
- FearlessFreep, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6or your towel
- kevinmotel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Shut up. You give us atheists a bad name.
- Djerrid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5We'll invent a replicator before we invent a teleporter. But, you already knew that, didn't you? ;)
- Mullinator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Because it proves we aren't the only planet that can have water on it. One more thing to show that earth is not unique and that the chances that there is life elsewhere in the universe are actually very high.
- Mullinator, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5You do realize there is more money for space now under Bush than under Clinton right? And i'm not just talking about funding for warfare involving space either. I hate Bush but at least understand that he isn't to blame for everything. Not saying Clinton is to blame either since the real cut backs happened decades ago.
- TheNapalm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6what did i do with my hitchhikers guide to the galaxy???
- Magillicutti, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Come on Bibel, let's go.
- jakebarnes, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I will say (at the risk of being dugg down) the pro-war politicians (ie, Bush) are very much for further exploration of space (ie, timetable to land on Mars), and their ideas (ibid) are being scowled at by the less "war friendly" politicians (ie, democrats who will say anything to show that they "disagree" with Bush).
Either way, I say we ***** hurry, before the Russians beat us to more water. - Devrdander, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Most people don't like to think outside their boxed in vision of reality let alone their solar system... If you have a problem with that we can fight over it!
- mmzplanet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Even then you are still looking at a 63 year teleport trip. I hope the trip feels instant to the person going. 126 year round trip just to say you have been there? I expect a person with a family will pass on the trip.
- yikiad, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4does ANYONE have a sense of humor anymore??? jeez!
- xedd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3So?? Are you saying that this water found on an extrasolar planet might not support life?
Well it might or it might not.
But whether or not it is drinkable for humans isn't proof.
Because Coleridge was referring to the undrinkable water of an ocean... on planet Earth. - migitalwarfare, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3sorry, al gore used all of it to create the internet
- gajillion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3No. It's his brother Kelvin 1000.
- dustysquareback, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Just one more variable to plug into the Drake Equation, also. Don't think so small, yo.
- slapthemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Wow......thats great.
- tylerjames, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2actually it only takes between 200 and 300 days to get there... if you leave at the right time
http://www.edb.utexas.edu/missiontomars/bench/rt.html - Monk22, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2can we leave this ***** on the thinkprogress articles so i can just bury them and dont have to read about how much you hate bush. no one cares about you or what you hate.
- spookyttws, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Pushy extra solar planets, thinking they're better than us with their water. We have water too, and guess what, you can't come to our planet either!
- Waterrat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Or our sun becomes a red giant and eats Earth for breakfast...
Anyway,it's a fascinating find.
- lhnz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I hope to god somebody creates a teleporter.
- oxuultae, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Or have the Guild Navigators use their limited prescience to take us through Foldspace.
- tim507, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2here we go.....
- Monk22, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1funny but true. even though in reality if we advanced enough each person could most likely have their own damn planet to do whatever they wanted on. but wed rather fight and squabble over earth whos resources will be used up sooner or later.
- Arramol, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1And for the record, Christian does not mean anti-science. Fundamentalist Christian is anti science. The banner of Christianity includes people like Isaac Newton and Georges Lemaitre (the man who proposed the Big Bang theory).
- bonhoeffer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3What point of Flat Earthers is defeated by the discovery of water vapor on HD 189733b? Do Flat Earthers deny that planets have water vapor?
- cmccool, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2so if this planet is uninhabitable, why are we so excited about this discovery?
- gmavz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1who's surprised?
- BigDigg55, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Its only water vapor cause a few hundred years ago, global warming heated the planets, becasue of all the SUVs.
- BloodyScum, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yes, also, if a planet has water, theres a good chance there could be some form of life there, even if its just microbes
- Seph7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://www.digg.com/general_sciences/Australian_Physicists_Develop_Teleportation_Scheme You're in luck :P
- ambrosious, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's "Bible."
- hmunkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Truly amazing.
- kmpr326, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You know, we can help scientists do stuff like that.
http://digg.com/space/Online_Help_Sought_to_Organize_Galaxies - BigDigg55, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1All your planets are belong to us!
- Matteos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's ginormous!
- amdahlj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Any drops to drink?
- CalipsoII, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1But was that one submitted by MrBabyMan?
- TeamRocket, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1So I see god has been busy creating other planets other than those in our system. Gods a busy busy being, must be hard being here and there all the time. He must use Outlook or something.
- dwright99, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0If you have to rely on these artist's renderings to show me, Sorry, I will take your info with a grain of salt.
