- Nudar, on 05/25/2008, -1/+51You realize we've landed 'landers' on Mars before right?
- badmephisto, on 05/25/2008, -1/+44I watched Spirit and Opportunity landings and I will watch this one too. These are big events in history of mankind.

- trickyt, on 05/25/2008, -1/+27THERE'S NO MARTIANS THERE!!!
- javelina, on 05/25/2008, -0/+23"Engineers did not use airbags on Phoenix because the lander is simply too big and heavy for them to work properly. And NASA will have to figure out how to land reliably with thrusters and landing legs in order to fly even larger spacecraft in the future." - http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/space/05/22/mars.land ...
- fastfastlane, on 05/25/2008, -2/+22Cool, gotta watch this one!
- mmurph, on 05/25/2008, -0/+18That was the best reality television I've seen in a while.
- inactive, on 05/25/2008, -8/+27***** THING SUCKS!!
- matt510, on 05/25/2008, -0/+16The Phoenix has landed!!
- Prodigyman, on 05/25/2008, -1/+18Thousands of man hours has been put in to this mission and all you hope for is the crash just for you mild entertainment? You sir fail at life.
- mtied, on 05/25/2008, -2/+171.2mb stream (640 x 480) (Windows Media only)
http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.dll?id=1368 ...
(much higher quality then the other streams posted) - atomicrobot, on 05/25/2008, -1/+16Why isn't this on a major news channel? Why isn't this being considered major news?
We are landing a recon vehicle on a planet MILLIONS of miles away and there's a good chance we might find signs of past alien life. I honestly cannot think of anything more important in the history of mankind. I am so depressed. - jedisushi, on 05/26/2008, -0/+15CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PHOENIX TEAM! Epic win for NASA.
- rawandrew, on 05/25/2008, -0/+15Mars here we come!
- lpmiller, on 05/25/2008, -2/+13because unlike the rovers, this one needs to land right side up, as it's a lander. With the rovers, they could land any old way and right themselves when the capsule opened. This is a more tradition tripod lander.
- inactive, on 05/26/2008, -0/+11Phoenix has landed, stay tuned for the downlink, i.e the first data it will send to earth.
- Professr, on 05/25/2008, -0/+11To get GMT, add 5 hours to EST.
- TonyBLiar, on 05/25/2008, -1/+11It's on UStream too.
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/spacevidcast - Ursad, on 05/26/2008, -0/+9Congrats to all the human race! just another small step and another note in the history books!
We just need more funding to NASA! - chincopanda, on 05/25/2008, -2/+11"NASA Television is now carried on an MPEG-2 digital signal accessed via satellite AMC-6, at 72 degrees west longitude, transponder 17C, 4040 MHz, vertical polarization. A Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) - compliant Integrated Receiver Decoder (IRD) with modulation of QPSK/DBV, data rate of 36.86 and FEC 3/4 is needed for reception...."
Gotta give it to NASA. They can make a TV schedule look ultra nerdy. - Magicmasta, on 05/25/2008, -1/+9And interestingly Firefox's old name is phoenix ;)

firefox logo: http://www.lifehack.org/wp-content/files/2007/05/2 ... - mk1gti, on 05/26/2008, -0/+8that was about the fastest seven minutes I've ever seen. . .
- UrinalPooper, on 05/25/2008, -0/+8nonterrestrial landings of any kind have me pitching a tent.
- Coldstreak, on 05/25/2008, -0/+8yes..the last time we sent a man to the moon was 1972
- Frost9999, on 05/25/2008, -0/+8Watched it - they landed successfully. Go science!
- Rosco, on 05/25/2008, -0/+8I remember the moon landings, even the first one (yes, I am that old), it was truly amazing stuff back in the day. I look forward to the day we start going back there as well.
- Ryan2845, on 05/25/2008, -0/+7Also being covered on the Science Channel in HD for those who have that channel
- ctrlfreak13, on 05/25/2008, -0/+7The actual coverage starts at 6pm, the briefing starts at 3pm (both EDT)
- CamperBob, on 05/25/2008, -3/+10From the article:
"NASA Television is now carried on an MPEG-2 digital signal accessed via satellite AMC-6, at 72 degrees west longitude, transponder 17C, 4040 MHz, vertical polarization. I remember when all you needed to say in order to watch TV was "Hey, put it on channel 12, wouldya?"
/My lawn.
//Get off it. - DoscoJones, on 05/26/2008, -0/+7Thee active landers and three satellites in orbit. These are good days for Mars science.
- MuskokasFinest, on 05/25/2008, -1/+8Your name says it all...

http://phoenix.lpl.arizona.edu/images.php?gID=0&cI ... - Zaneris, on 05/25/2008, -0/+6It depends on where Mars is relative to Earth, but at the moment I believe it's about a 10 minute delay.
- MrVeal, on 05/25/2008, -0/+6WE LANDED!!
- gerardoc, on 05/25/2008, -2/+8...again.
- inactive, on 05/25/2008, -4/+10I was trying to put the NASA live tv link but it was already submitted for another post, but i posted the link for the schedule sorry about that, but i have also put the link to the NASA TV where the events will be live. The Mars Phoenix Lander Briefing will be on both Public and Media Channels, landing will be only Public Channel while the downlink will be again on both Public and Media Channels.
If the Mars Phoenix Landers survives 7 minutes of terror which experts say it will, it will be an awesome event to watch and a great chapter in the history of space exploration. - Shadowgamers, on 05/25/2008, -2/+8What time does this broadcast in other GMTs, for people who're not American?
- jedisushi, on 05/25/2008, -0/+6The 'anchor' for this stream is really, really annoying.
- blakebrentwood, on 05/25/2008, -0/+6Great success!
- robbiedo, on 05/25/2008, -0/+6Please God who art thou in Heaven. Please let our little hunk of metal and silicon land safely and finally detect life on another hunk of rock.
- marx2k, on 05/25/2008, -0/+6Excellent! IT worked!
- spanner, on 05/25/2008, -1/+7Can someone please give the time for landing at GMT time? Us internationals have no idea what EDT is in the real world. :)
- ToadLeg, on 05/25/2008, -0/+5@CCoe: I tried your fix, and although the video worked without problems the same way it does on Linux, there were other problems including Russian botnets controlling my computer, Software vendors trying to sell me products called "anti-virus" that don't really do anything because the malware vendors move too quickly, and adware telling me to buy "genuine" products, that appear to come from the OS itself.
The OS seemed rather featureless compared to most modern OSes that come with CD burning, word processing, powerpoint, spreadsheet, and other programs pre-installed, and there were a lot of driver problems - The OS told me to go to websites to download drivers and manually install them instead of simply automatically configuring everything.
Also, I couldn't find the package management system, or any reference to a repository containing extra programs such as graphics, video, and sound editing programs, games, and all kinds of other programs for automatic download and install. - AmericansRevolt, on 05/26/2008, -1/+6CONGRATS TO NASA! You guys did a FANTASTIC job! We are proud!!!!!
