- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -2/+19Artists rendering made in mspaint?
- 8ight, on 08/22/2008, -2/+15Pluto, what are you doing on there?
- nofate2029, on 08/22/2008, -1/+9couldn't NASA get a better artist to render this picture?
- gerrylazlo, on 08/22/2008, -0/+7Aparently Voyager is preparing to enter hell.
- Sornos, on 08/22/2008, -0/+6We have a probe that will arrive in a decade or so. We'll see it up close then. New Horizons it's called.
- duggdowncatisad, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5Just because it isn't a planet doesn't mean it stopped existing. They would be like saying "what's the district of columbia doing on this map, it's not a state"
- Lucifugerising, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5Wow you have terrible taste in wallpaper.
- b0ltacti0n, on 08/22/2008, -1/+5Soon to become "VEGER"
- Sornos, on 08/22/2008, -1/+5Never. Unless someone out there follows the instructions on it and brings it back home (hopefully without any world dangering tendencies).
- JonyMill, on 08/22/2008, -0/+4Awesome... rendition...
It's a blue circle. - bmxbanditt, on 08/22/2008, -2/+5Voyager made it to the outer limits of the heliosphere at least 6 months ago now. ligyron, it's not coming back, that's what's so cool about Voyager. It will forever be coasting out deeper into space. It's powered by uranium which is due to run out in about 40 years.
- chesscat, on 08/22/2008, -0/+3All these postings and not one joke about rings and Uranus?
- fuzzybeard, on 08/22/2008, -0/+3It's due back in 2271; its power & guidance systems will not be known.
/sourced from startrek.com/startrek/view/series/MOV/001/synopsis/81.html - fungalboom, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4Remind me why 'South' makes sense in space?
- MetalHead73, on 08/22/2008, -0/+3Woah... that thing is WAY the hell out there.
- FoxOrian, on 08/22/2008, -0/+3It's not really that great of a rendition that I would call "wallpaper worthy." It looks like it was made entirely with photoshop filters... about ten years ago. I'm surprised the lens flare filter isn't in there somewhere.
- Mier, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2looks like those pictures of how the Earth's magnetic field acts in the solar wind. Pretty interesting.
- Quick2822, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2The Voyager spacecrafts are very fascinating.
They used to update this site that gave reports on it.. http://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/weekly-reports ... but it hasn't been updated since May. Too bad. - mrsammercer, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2I mean, I know that the earth's magnetosphere protects us from the sun. But the sun has a similar field protecting us from galactic radiation/particles/whatnot? I'm just a discovery channel nerd, but i never realized that. It's good to know these things before we take the baby steps before the baby steps to cruising the universe in our man-made space raft.
- novenator, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1what this is actually showing is the heliopause and termination shock, the limit of the influence of the solar wind from our Sun, where it meets the stronger solar wind from the Milky Way galaxy. It really has nothing to do with any magnetosphere. A better image with parts shown can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Voyager_1_enter ... or at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Heliosphere_dra ...
Wikipedia: 'The heliosphere is a bubble in space "blown" into the interstellar medium (the hydrogen and helium gas that permeates the galaxy) by the solar wind.' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heliosphere
Also, 'It is believed that Voyager 1 crossed the termination shock and entered the heliosheath in the middle of December 2004, at a distance of 94 AU' - cacique83, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Thanks.
- eers2snow, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Pretty crazy that voyager, a space craft that was put into orbit 7 years before my birth is still alive and ticking. Anyone know how much longer it will be in service?
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -1/+2Can someone ask the artist if we find and alien what it would look like? Maybe he can show us Ms Paint, Alien.bmp
- nothin2g, on 08/22/2008, -1/+1Nevermind.

- HillBully, on 08/22/2008, -1/+1geez, how else do you think an artist can render an invisible magnetic "squashed bubble" surrounding our solar system?
- cacique83, on 08/22/2008, -4/+3Good question..
PS : I want to see how Pluto looks like. - koldmilk, on 08/22/2008, -9/+8Space the final...never mind...
- hforest, on 08/22/2008, -1/+0you're doing it wrong
- foolfoolz, on 08/22/2008, -4/+3In space, no one can hear.... ***** this
- halogenic, on 08/22/2008, -1/+0It will probably make it to the outer limits again in another 6 months time, and again and again.
- HillBully, on 08/22/2008, -4/+1yeah? YOU can do that in MSPaint? Since when DID mspaint do textures, gradients, transparent stuff etc? :p
- oilcan, on 08/22/2008, -3/+0sure is colorful, way out there in deep space.
- bmxbanditt, on 08/22/2008, -4/+0Yes, but Voyager 2 made it to the outer limits of the heliosphere at least 6 months ago.
- JoeF8577, on 08/22/2008, -8/+3squash is yummy
- andywebb95, on 08/22/2008, -7/+2Great rendition.
New desktop wallpaper discovered. - ligyron, on 08/22/2008, -7/+1Wait, is this "Voyager" spacecraft really that far outside our solar system?? When is it due back and what's powering it for such a long trip?
- EvanVolm, on 08/22/2008, -12/+6Janeway always was a ***** captain...
