- floor, on 02/22/2008, -0/+76Break out your Handycam, find a bus 153 miles away traveling at 15,000 MPH and shoot a little footage for us.
- KonstantinLevin, on 02/22/2008, -2/+76I think maybe the 153 miles outpaced the zoom lens.
- Apokalyps2547, on 02/22/2008, -0/+65"They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I prefer the weapon you only need to fire once. That's how dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far."
--Tony Stark - ChrisfromNL, on 02/22/2008, -4/+63I'm making a note here, huge success.
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -4/+52"Take that, China. We can shoot ***** out of the sky too so don't ***** with us."
Do you really think this is about hydrazine? - baldgye, on 02/22/2008, -6/+51gota love "blowin' ***** up"
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -4/+43To the morons complaining about quality of the vid. Fools this is REALITY...not a hollywood movie stage load with cgi and hi-def cams.
- kahlessreborn, on 02/22/2008, -8/+45Wow the government can even make blowing ***** up boring
- alexdemers, on 02/22/2008, -1/+37Show me a camera IN COLOR with HIGH DEF viewing that can film a satellite...
- DraggingTheLake, on 02/22/2008, -4/+37SOMEONE SET UP US THE BOMB
- tbone63, on 02/22/2008, -13/+41Why is the footage look like its from 1960? It looks like it's in black and white.
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -1/+28The video gizmodo is showing is in pretty bad quality, maybe due to high compression. The guy's face is already blurry. Everything is blurry. Needless to say about the video inside a LCD.
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -0/+21Its called INFRARED not black and white!!!
- flintmecha, on 02/22/2008, -1/+21I agree. The US Government wasn't recording this with the intent of posting it on Youtube or selling it on DVD. The video was being recorded with military surveying equipment. Notice the gauges on the bottom and side of the screen, and the text up top? That stuff gives the soldier information about what the camera is focused on. It's not for ***** entertainment purposes, it's for recording mission-critical information.
- EdmontonEh, on 02/22/2008, -4/+24Take that Tom Cruise... :D
- gamerzworld, on 02/22/2008, -0/+20It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
- Asianwaste, on 02/22/2008, -3/+22All I saw was a reflection of 3 people sitting down.
- DeviantDragon, on 02/22/2008, -0/+18More than meets the eye? The satellite is really...MEGATRON?!
- xb00t, on 02/22/2008, -10/+27"We are pretty sure we hit the satellite."
I sure hope so. I will be checking tomorrow's headlines for shot down passenger planes and the phrase "Al-Qaeda involvement". - blzbulb, on 02/22/2008, -0/+17Aliens! It was Aliens, the whole satellite story was just the cover up.
- loganhid, on 02/22/2008, -5/+20come on - they can zoom in on your ass from space
- sexybobo, on 02/22/2008, -0/+15They have much better quality videos of the moon landing they just don't know where. What see when you see clips from the moon was nasa filming a monitor with the live feed streaming in to it. Was the only way they could get a signal to broadcast "live". The film actually in the cameras was put in to storage right after the landing and has been since lost for the most part but was much higher quality.
- fayji, on 02/22/2008, -1/+16actually, both the military and to a certain extent NASA tends to degrade their videos/picture released to the public....some sort of national security thing...i guess...
- BeeArePro, on 02/22/2008, -3/+16LOL, no. You can say *****, btw.
- tysonwil, on 02/22/2008, -0/+13LMAO, you posted the same thing at Engadget and got pwned. So ill explain it again.
So your Sony camcorder can shoot high speed images of an object moving 5,000 miles an hour crashing into something moving 17,000 miles an hour, at night from around 133 nautical miles away? Must be some camcorder. There's a lot more to this than pointing a camcorder with a big lens on it at the sky. At least one of the videos was shot from 26,000 ft, apparently from an aircraft, which given the velocities of everything involved, the fact that they were able to track the missile, and have zoom capable of seeing the impact is pretty impressive. Also, I would imagine that their goals are based more on getting clear, high contrast cloud free images rather than looking like some big budget film. - merripen, on 02/22/2008, -0/+13This is great news - I was beginning to worry that benevolent extraterrestrial life had nothing to fear from our puny human weapons. That missile thing in the video was way better than my idea of a pointy stick.
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -6/+18This fake video is nowhere near as good as their fake moon landing footage...
/s - Rev0lver, on 02/22/2008, -2/+14Great to know the US is still good at blowing ***** up...Now how about getting to work on the Mars expedition and making sure that isn't ***** up?
- DivineMonkey, on 02/22/2008, -1/+13They don't want their enemies to see too much maybe?
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -3/+15Message to China: Shut the ***** up, bitch.
- Flashman, on 02/22/2008, -0/+11Since when does the Pentagon owe you a pretty light show?
- feckineejit, on 02/22/2008, -1/+12This is not about 'keeping people safe from dangerous Hydrazene fuel" It's showing China, whatever you can do, we can do better.
China destroyed an old weather satellite in a similar manner last year, the Pentagon announced the launch of their own intercept missle three days after a ban on this type of missle agreed upon by Russia and China. - Pilot85, on 02/22/2008, -1/+12Do you guys realize what this means? WE HAVE ENTERED THE ERA OF SPACE EXPLOSIONS! Thats' right! All those sweet micro gravity booms you could only see on SciFi movies/tv shows are now possible! I can't wait till they release the high res video he spoke of in the clip. Awesomesauce.
- roundy, on 02/22/2008, -0/+9Everyone also's go to realize that the shoot down occurred at 10:50 PM somewhere NW of Hawaii at at 153 Nautical Miles up. In other words, at night in the middle of nowhere and way above the ground. I don't know what kind of HD cameras you guys are using, but mine really sucks in low light. And this is probably as low light as you're going to get. I think the footage they got was pretty good. But, I admit they could have done a better job on the missile launch part.
- ventralnet, on 02/22/2008, -1/+10They did not destroy that satellite in a similar manner. They destroyed it when it was still in orbit and that means there are a million little pieces floating around in our orbit now... no bueno
- jserio, on 02/22/2008, -1/+10Nothing like watching a video of a video on a plasma tv with reflections of people watching it. Anyone have a link to a real video of this?
- iknowbob, on 02/22/2008, -0/+9True Story! thank you
- illspaz, on 02/22/2008, -0/+8Specially after many critics were saying it wasn't going to work.
'specially?? - lukemandese, on 02/22/2008, -2/+10Next time they shoot down a satelite in space. Get a camera powerful enough to ***** view it... in space!
- zdiddy85, on 02/22/2008, -1/+9One of the guys was mistakenly led there thinking they were giving away free ice cream.
