- theDunedan, on 07/01/2008, -0/+47Could they not have thought of a different name? Nova's are things that blow up in English and things that don't go anywhere in Spanish.
- Ramble, on 07/01/2008, -0/+22It'll crash. I say that as a proud Brit.
- bosssmiley, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2140 years after we canned the British space programme (to pay for an abortive VTOL supersonic fighter programme and the beautiful white elephant that was Concorde) the Union Jack shall finally fly into space.
!We're coming for you Mekon! - UserNull, on 07/01/2008, -4/+23Is it just a prototype? That really wasn't clarified...

- noahhoward, on 07/01/2008, -0/+6Do you need to be reminded that capsules got us to the moon and will (apparently) get us back? Besides have you looked at England on a map? We don't have the real estate for a good sized runway.
- webcrumb, on 07/01/2008, -0/+6The UK was the first to break the sound barrier. It's just the US took the plans as part payment for WW2. The Bell X1 was a British design.
- dullnation, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5It's also a really ***** model of car.
- hockey1061, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5Wait...it's not a Reliant Robin?
- inactive, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5It's good to see the private sector take on these challenges.

- ManicMyna, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3maybe Hamster & Captain Slow have found a better person to operate the RC this time
- Gryffydd, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4Oh come now, look how reliable British cars are!
- fezzasus, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3In an attempt to counter all the comments about our backwards space program. I should point out that this is a PRIVATELY funded attempt which will allow for paying civilians to enter space, this is in addition to Richard Brandson's attempt. How may does america have?
- mttyd, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3I can't wait for astronaut fish and chips!!!!!!
- MadOgre, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Two questions for you: 1. Is Biggles the pilot? 2. When will we see Richard Hammond drive it?
- inactive, on 07/01/2008, -3/+6impressive
- mfhayes, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Yeah, I think this is just a prototype.
It could do this... it could do that... but it's just a prototype, so who the hell knows. - tvblogcan, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3I find no proof to that fact that they got any government support. Just because Fox News makes stuff up don't mean you have to. Plus even if the government did pay for it all, the UK needs to start taking commercialized space seriously, before we're left in the dark ages.
- EmperorAwesome, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Most impressive...
- tcpip4lyfe, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2I just assumed you had a space program. What have you guys been doing?
- Jomskylark, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2It's a prototype? Really? Didn't you JUST say that, like five times?
- soupr, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2We added a tea room, pool table, cigar lounge, a study and a hat stand.
Stay classy, USA - SimonJohnson, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Yeah we outsource everything in the UK
- webcrumb, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2That's not what she sad...
- wilsondus, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Not sure, but my old Nova had a 427 short stroke....
- MadOgre, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1It still sucked.
- Duositex, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Is it me or does "space rocket" sound childish? "Daddy are you going to go up in a space rocket?"
- MadOgre, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/22/video-top-gear- ...
- charlietuna, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Put a big union jack on it. Dr. Evil can run, but he cannot hide.
- dullnation, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1I'm sure you're a great presenter. That guy sucked however.
- nem0, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1They were going to name it Exploding Fireball In Space 2, but it wouldn't fit on their shoulder patches.
- fakekevinrose, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Tony Stark built that in a cave
- TheDaveBoy, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1They should have gone for "Nova 5" - at least that would have given us a Red Dwarf reference.
- leerayIG88, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Rocket Man! Flying so high the sky!
- starmanjones, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1>ultra-professional types like Rutan, the
there are some other very high level professionals... the roton looks pretty good. a version was developed for NASA back when. it has a nose rotor and it autogyrates home.
im not so critical as to laugh but governments should be develping expensive things private industry won't do. this is a tourist trip. rutan did it. he did it cheaper. and if history means anything rutans designs completely out class everything. european governments are duplicating work done by a small 30 ish employee company in the U.S. they should just by them from rutan. he is already working towards an orbital spacecraft. governments should throw some development money at him and get a better deal.
and whats with this "space rocket" term. that sounds like its from some campy old scifi. :D - sanman, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1But wasn't that StarChaser guy always making promises to go up in his first Nova rocket, and then never following through?
"Oops, got a delay"
"Oops, another delay"
"Oops, delayed again"
Most of them seem to be that way, including that Canadian Brian Feeney. They all make big promises of going up in the rocket to lure the sponsors, and then they always seem to shy away from actually launching - even if it's at the last minute, with them faking a disappointed look on their face.
Face it, other than the ultra-professional types like Rutan, the others are just dreamers -- none of which wants to actually fly and die. - jamesmudgett, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1a giant penis
- GT35R, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1If it gets made, because it is only a prototype, it will fly blah blah blah.
- MadOgre, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Damn and blast... I was going to say the same thing.
- soupr, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Tall poppy syndrome...
- joeydoo, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1We make mass produced cars well... just not for British owned manufacturers.
