- adoggz, on 10/11/2007, -4/+68i was hoping to see some obscure and cool fact, but i knew most of those :(
- bakkouz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20The space.com's 101 Amazing Earth facts is more enjoyable:
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/101_earth_facts_030722-1.html - manmademark, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16"during the red giant phase of the Sun - both Earth and Moon will be affected by the Sun's extended atmosphere and will aproach again. Then the Moon will swing ever closer to Earth until it reaches a point 11,470 miles (18,470 kilometers) above our planet, a point termed the Roche limit. The result: Moon will be torn to pieces and will be scattered to form a spectacular 23,000-mile-diameter (37,000-kilometer) Saturn-like ring of debris above Earth's equator."
Dude, you need to put SPOILERS in the title. God damn, thanks you jerk you completely ruined that surprise. - carpespasm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10the submitter was asking for diggs in the comments of other articles.
- Dohko_Xar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Obviously you are way wrong. It was all created in a day. Din forged the earth with her flaming arms. Nayru created the oceans and the sky. And finally, made the green pastures and all the life forms that you can see today.
N00b! - glinsvad, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6ROFLMAO
"theory" ha ha - ElwoodHerring, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Pedantically speaking, the Earth weighs nothing. It's in free fall so its weight is zero. What you are actually referring to is its mass.
And give me good old pounds and ounces any day! - Neme, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6These are fairly common, but the article fails to highlight how minimal some of these effects are; such as the variation of gravity across the surface of the earth.
- monomyth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6This is like 8th grade physics in Soviet school...
- romistrub, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6who uses pounds? honestly!
- flaterates, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5and.... can't spell!!
- zeromancer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Title should be:
Top 10 Most Amazing Facts About The Earth EVER [w/ pix] That You Probably Already Knew, but Are Compelled to Read Again, Because That's the Nature of Digg - GangsterCompute, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6The top 10 most amazing facts about the Earth have not been discovered yet.
- romistrub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"Most obvious" implies that you would know them without reading about them. I don't think they're *that* obvious. The only reason *you* know about them is because you read them before... probably on a site similar to this.
- redrock34, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Does # 9 support the expanding earth theory?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3They speak English in What?
- AntBing, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4You should be counting the years left until science comes out with a grammar pill, and stop worrying about jokes that you obviously don't get.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Um, even IF you believe in god...there's still no proof, correct?
- MikeOSX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Old much of it as well.
- K3ITHK, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Umm, wow. This is just a list of the most obvious facts about earth. Everyone should have known these before reading.
- mikesly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3#5 reminds me of the movie Time Machine
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3hahaha. He sounds like a spoiled child
- ryanfaith88, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's great how 12, 13, and 14 deal mainly with Mars
- DeskFlyer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Ya I know. I threw the 'unbelievable' part in there hoping that would be a clue, but oh well. :(
- romistrub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Who said they didn't know why?
- elementfire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Because water insulates?
- ziffel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Don't sweat it. Diggers just have a twitch reflex against creationism. ;-)
- Septimus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I would laugh at you, but the urge to cry after reading your post is much stronger.
- carpespasm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2was here in the states too. some people just were not paying attention
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Yeah I've grown to hate msaleem. He is an arrogant prick. Go to his profile and read his blog and every ***** thing he finds gets to the front page. Then he brags about his digg popularity (that and a dollar can buy you a bag of chips) and talks about how he has to trim his friends list...wow. An American hero. I bury his ***** as lame now.
- Narfmaster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have to say, the "Chandler Wobble" made me giggle.
- swordedge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1stupidity
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Sorry for the double post but this is from his blog.
"today is the second time in 2 months (the first time was in the middle of may) that i’m trimming down my friends list on digg. the first time i took the list down from 550 to 150. since then i have added a few people and the goal this time is to get it from 167 down to 100.
what are the rules? well if you haven’t dugg any of my stuff for at least one week, then we aren’t really friends, are we?" - mtributino, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I hate inconsistencies, in this article, they say 30,000 tons of space dust falls into the Earths atmosphere every year. Then in the article they refer to "101 earth facts", at fact 6 or so, it states that approx 1,000 tons of space dust falls into the Earths atmosphere every year.
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They're probably both inside the margin of error of the estimates. There's no way to really get solid data on something like that. That's like measuring how many rain drops are in a particular thunderstorm.
- dj_sea2005, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2You need more exclamation marks:
!!!!!!!!!!*
fixed. - verbose, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I knew most of these, but only because my HD snobbery compelled me to watch Miracle Planet, Planet Earth, and all the other "planet" or "earth" related content on Discovery HD. Although for the record, I boycotted Sigourney in favor of the BBC Attenborough original on Blu-Ray -- why do they insult us like that?
- Istario, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2No. The earth's mass is about 6E24 kg. 30,000 tons over a period of 4 billion years is only 1E17 kg which is .0000018% of the earth's mass.
- polyGone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why does it seem that lightening strikes mainly on land?
http://www.space.com/images/0611_lightning_flashes_98_03.jpg - TheShrike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Article like yoda felt with dyslexia.
- >mark, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If the moon is moving away from the earth, where as the moon millions of years ago? inside the planet?
Also, if the planet is slowing down, millions of years ago days must have been seconds long. - polyGone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thank you. :)
- amunimanghi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Any general Physics course covers this. Interesting, but not that amazing.
- IndelibleSweet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1January and February always do seem to drag on for me...
- watchfordog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1clearly it was necessary for a narcissistic *****
- BufordT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Isn't the monster at the top of the page the boss from Monsters Inc?
- polyGone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ohh, I bet he nos that. :)
- Septimus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Sad your sarcasm is getting you dug down.
- watchfordog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They forgot to put one more...me baby me!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1WTF? Why did you paste the whole article?
