- DeskFlyer, on 12/14/2007, -2/+32The large hole on Mars is clearly proof that the planet is currently inhabited by giant worms.
- Nygard, on 12/14/2007, -1/+25Best astronomical images of 2007, chosen for both aesthetic appeal and scientific value.
- pieterkok, on 12/14/2007, -1/+18Make sure you read the text as well: very enlightening!
- romistrub, on 12/14/2007, -0/+13Why can't we just revel in the sheer beauty of this stuff without always returning to that old political shilling for side A or B.
- BadAstronomer, on 12/14/2007, -1/+10Thanks! I appreciate it!
- romistrub, on 12/14/2007, -0/+9Dunno if you have any official "affiliation" or not but... I'm a huge fan of the commentary. Just thought I'd let you know :P
- TheDHC, on 12/14/2007, -0/+8A star is a massive, luminous ball of plasma. I fail to see how this relates to Kate Beckinsale
- ScottoGato, on 12/14/2007, -0/+6Absolutely! The pictures are breathtaking by themselves, but the information added is spectacular. Excellent Top Ten!
- ahoyhoy, on 12/14/2007, -0/+6So many potential wallpapers... so little desktops...
- krytz86, on 12/14/2007, -1/+7Good point and all, but I'd rather he didn't.....
- BadAstronomer, on 12/14/2007, -0/+5If you liked these, check out last year's Top Ten picks as well: http://www.badastronomy.com/bablog/2006/12/27/the- ...
- inactive, on 12/14/2007, -0/+5Or maybe Mars Goatse's us.
- platypibri, on 12/14/2007, -0/+4Thanks for taking a lovely article on a subject I am interested in with beautiful pictures, and injecting your prejudice into it.
- 0ceanic, on 12/14/2007, -0/+4#3 on the list has a 1-gigapixel extremely zoomable interactive version on the net

- dan2, on 12/14/2007, -2/+5Wait a second...that means...OMG
- Bamborzled, on 12/14/2007, -2/+5Hey guys, let's start an off-topic political debate about science v. religion just because we can! I mean, that'll really show our large attention spans, our maturity, and our total non-trollness!
- krytz86, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3Thats no Mars... THATS A BATTLESTATION
- Bamborzled, on 12/14/2007, -2/+5Since you happen to be such an expert on Rosie O'Donnell's vagina, why don't you tell us more about it?
- zelig, on 12/14/2007, -1/+4Nice to see a science submission not including the words "global warming"
- ahoyhoy, on 12/14/2007, -1/+4"This is no cave!"
- GimpDaddy, on 12/14/2007, -1/+4Awesome images and great explanations of exactly what you are looking at... even a novice stargazer will enjoy these!
- stonez, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3Great selection by the BA.
- devin_mm, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3Finally and interesting Top 'x' list, not only is it enlightening but beautiful as well. I will definitely becoming back to this list later.
- DontGiveADamn, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3Thank you for informing us. I passed the information on to George Bush and he is sending our Area 51 spaceships to bomb them back to the stone age.
- platypibri, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2huh. He's being dugg down. I'm left with some small optimism about dialog between our two world views. But for now, I'll just say "Stellar Photography". Pun intended.
- mal1964, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3ahhh you don't want to get a good point from it,
- platypibri, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3yeah, who made the first religious comment? Atheists are just as annoying.
- spargett, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Amazing. This stuff always makes my head hurt. It's dizzying trying to grasp the scope of scale here.
- JamesMH74, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3Wonderful set of photos!
- ScottoGato, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1Don't forget the blaster for the pesky mynock.
- kd1s, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1Regarding ARP87, they think that the Milky Way and Andromeda will play out in a very similar way.
It won't happen for a very long time, we're talking billions of years. But it behooves us to continue our push out into space. And the recent news that Gliese 581 has earth-like planets and only 20 light years away is encouraging. Now if we can just figure out FTL. - ChromaVita, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1I love number three, and it would be my new desktop if I could find an easy way to do that. Anyone have a version of it 1440x900+ by any chance?
- mal1964, on 12/14/2007, -1/+2That was really cool! The Good Astronomer might be in trouble this year.
- BadAstronomer, on 12/25/2007, -0/+1Well, I "retired" from my University job to write a book, and now that that's done, I'm just this guy in his basement typing away. :-) Thanks for the compliment! I really have fun writing up the Top Ten, and I'm already looking forward to next year. Oh- I added the runners-up, finally: http://www.badastronomy.com/bablog/2007/12/23/top- ...
- parasitewasp, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1Who ever controls the spice...
- blatzkowitz, on 12/14/2007, -1/+2That was... for lack of a better term... amazing.
- parasitewasp, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1Because they are, or manipulated to be more pleasant to look at.
- moliver000, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1I think everyone on Earth should be able to enjoy these. These are some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life...
- unitedstatians, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Astronomically brilliant!
- Dylson, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1No, tell me. What's the better term? SOMEBODY tell me!
- Proctor, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1CL0024+1652 was the best. I want that in 300DPI poster quality.
- DestroyFascism, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1I would rather visit another planet full of aliens!
- Arcesius, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1enlightening... har har =)
- DestroyFascism, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1Awesome stuff there...
- Locke23, on 12/15/2007, -0/+0Ok, note the fact that I never said anything about religion, but instead it's more organized counterpart. Whether you beleive in God or not, I could care less, but my personal point of view is that organized religion tells you that God is constantly watching you. My opinion on the subject is that if there is a God, he's more occupied in creating thousands of new galaxies and other intergalactical things rather than worrying about me eating pork, or having sex. Stop being so damn touchy, and open your minds to new points of view.
- Xshadowmage666X, on 12/20/2007, -0/+0beautiful pics! space isn't even explainable in mere words, nor is my desire to visit before i go...
