Three Month Composite of Comet Holmes
apod.nasa.gov — Explanation: How has Comet Holmes changed? Since brightening unexpectedly by nearly one million fold in late October, the last three months have found the coma of Comet 17P/Holmes both expanding and fading.

Once it became too diffuse to see easily, it has been interesting to monitor through the photographic submissions at APOD, Spaceweather.com and others. It will be interesting to see if there is another outburst on the comet's next pass in a few years!

Visible comets are fairly rare and the ancients used to think that they heralded disaster.
