- marially, on 06/19/2008, -1/+15Beautiful, spectacular picture! 40 million light years away and we can still capture such a clear image. Amazing.
- Vet4Peace, on 06/19/2008, -1/+15The universe kicks ass. Wow.
- schure1, on 06/19/2008, -1/+13So surreal.
But real.
The beauty of the universe around us is almost too much for the mind to fathom. - inactive, on 06/19/2008, -0/+11Hubble has found about 125 billion galaxies. Our Milky Way Galaxy alone has about 110 billion stars with an error rate of +/- 10%.
- silfiriel, on 06/19/2008, -0/+11I,ve never realised how many galaxies are out there, until I subscribed to APOD rss. I mean I knew there are millioons and much, much more, I just didn't know astronomers have spoted so much. Using Celestia I only thought the nearest are visible (m31 and m33)
- grndragon, on 06/19/2008, -0/+4I love this it's like looking out into space and seeing how small we really are and I just can't get enough of these pic's
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -0/+4If you still think we're alone in the Universe then there is seriously something wrong with you, especially after seeing a pic like this.
- FreeTalkLIve, on 06/20/2008, -0/+4This one of the best pics yet.
- Roget, on 06/20/2008, -2/+5I misread it as "NCC" and thought this was a Star Trek article.
- SpinCaster, on 06/19/2008, -1/+4The Acrobatic Galaxy !
- inactive, on 06/19/2008, -2/+5this kind of beauty gets down in your soul
- dmkirt, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3Awesome
- AtheistPride13, on 06/20/2008, -1/+4I love this type of stuff the universe is so incredible. Carl Sagan put it the best when he talked about how insignifigant we are on this "pale blue dot"
- r3s0p, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2Is the apparent diameter of the stars in the foreground real or is it just an artifact of the exposure time? I'd assume it has to be the latter or they would be incredibly close to one another...at least relative to how close we are to our neighbors.
- Dylson, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2It IS too much to fathom. In reality, the universe is endless. Also, the funny thing is it is still expanding.
- effervescence, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1And here I was hoping for a Transformers reference.
"You've failed me again, Star Scream." - mugicha, on 06/20/2008, -1/+2This is what the internet for. This and massively multiplayer online role playing games. I'm going to totally build a star colony in that ***** and put it in on farm status, for the win.
- frenchylefrench, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Wow! I can't wait to see more, absolutely stunning.
- Bactame, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1Now that is a subject worth a little study. If we could move to a place in the stream our view would be astounding. Mother galaxy would be nearby but not too much so. The sun would live to an old age and similar stars would be nearby.
- mercurialsaliva, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1Starscream!
- AstroLeo, on 06/21/2008, -0/+0For the most part all stars are single points of light for earthbound observers. Only a few very large telescopes can detect width on close large stars. Bright stars appear larger in photographs because the atmosphere and the optics smear the light across multiple pixels
- HanSolo69, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1Where's Starscream...oh..wait. Ugh. Un-Dugg.
- Gforce20, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1God sure is a great artist...
- garnetrook, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1Goddamn, ***** your pants beautiful.
- crowbarred, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1i keep looking for a ship to come at me with a voice over any second
- xylish, on 06/20/2008, -1/+0When are they going to find star streams of OGC 5802?
- MustangMatt, on 06/20/2008, -2/+0Very nice picture.
But there are more and more of them out there.
From the pictures I've seen of others, this one looks kinda boring.
[ No action, lol ]
But yes, very interesting.
:x - DeadlyCouncil, on 06/20/2008, -4/+2Ok.
Space is redonkulous. - NelsonR, on 06/20/2008, -5/+0Makes one think we are but one atom in the scheme of things. I wonder if their are Republican Conservative Nationalist out there to?
Probably, lots of super novas and exploding planets.
