- annsid, on 06/03/2008, -0/+11Beautiful picture of one of the most colorful patches of the sky. And just look at all the various nebulae the universe can produce: unlit dark dust nebulae, illuminated blue reflection nebulae (illuminated by hot-but-not-too-hot stars), red emission nebulae (produced by the hottest stars) and, in the case of Antares, a yellow relection nebulae! I know of no other reflection nebulae like that one. But of course, Antares is very bright and too cool to emit much blue light, and it is surrounded by a lot of dust. Hey presto, a yellow reflection nebula!

- mikesbaker, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5APOD brings me another sweet background. dugg
- artofficial, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5If you love this you should netflix "the universe," series. Its like the planet earth...of space.
- Anomaly100, on 06/03/2008, -1/+4Towards the left of the image, it's almost as if you can see faces in there- Could be Elvis...well it's not like he has anywhere left to hide.
- Jamihabs, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3Please, you have all your huffington post articles to wallow in. Can you not tolerate an occasional bigger picture?
- colonelxc, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2You stay classy, universe.
- craighoxton, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Title sounds like something from Analog or Astounding Stories
- mikesbaker, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2but everyone hates a spammer
- UrinalPooper, on 06/04/2008, -2/+4But how many Bothans had to die to get us this information?
- hexr, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3That's marvelous. Makes you think there's no way we're the only living creatures in this universe.
- mnemy, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3I really don't get the whole digg circle jerk on astronomy pics.
- Bicx, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3Damn, we're small. When I'm worried about stuff like running out of milk, pictures like this put things in perspective.
- aserer511, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3pictures like that are beautiful.
- ferrell, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3Giggity!
- BlazinEurasian, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3Where do i put my stellar converter?
- cslawren, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2absolutely gorgeous.
- inactive, on 06/03/2008, -1/+2I wish it was higher rez. Space pictures dont look good stretched.
I'm loving this astronomy shot of the day though. Definitely some good stuff almost everyday. - CrazyMel, on 06/03/2008, -1/+2It's a schooner!
- k7jeb, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1I think we've become spoiled by the hi-res Hubble and professional, ground-based imagery. 2K x 2K is probably pretty close to the limit for a pro-am astrophotographer.
- dmkirt, on 06/04/2008, -3/+4God's canvas is so is always so beautiful.
- AzeemAhmed, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2wow. thats bloody awesome.
- The_Decryptor, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1Yeah, if you're on 1024x768.
My old monitor was 1280x1024, my new one is 1680x1050, images that small don't look good stretched. - OverlyCritical, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2content aggregation/hyperlinking. get over it.
- SunAlex, on 09/02/2008, -0/+1picture is wonderful. nice colors.

http://www.sunayana2007.org - gmiley, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1I never get enough of space photographs, and even artist illustrations on occasion. There's just so much out there to look at, and no matter how much of it I see, I am still quite often amazed at each new picture I see. I have a directory on both my home PC and the one in my office at work filled with background images of various nebulae and star clusters.
- chasenyc, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1Just out of curiousty MrBabyFag, what's the highest level of education you've completed?
- federokko, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1I like it
- accessviolation, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1Except that 1280x1024 is a 5:4 aspect ratio and 1024x768 is 4:3. 1280x960 is next level up of 4:3. Judging by your resolution, you have a strange and pseudo widescreen monitor (14x9).
1300x867 is very close to 16:10 aspect ratio which is the aspect ratio of most modern widescreen monitors and it would stretch to fill them with little distortion. - bouche, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2I think the APOD fanboys need to get a room. It's very undigglike to see a pattern like that develop. The same items being dugg up every day by relatively the same group of people is not a good thing.
- bouche, on 06/04/2008, -5/+5I've got news for you. There is an RSS feed for the APOD photos that you can subscribe to and spare us on digg from seeing APOD every single frikkin' day.
Who's going to help me bury these? I can't be the only one that sees how ridiculous the APOD post daily to digg is. - pootedesu, on 06/04/2008, -0/+0My desktop runs at 1400x900. From the environments around me, I can safely assume that 1280x1024 is the new 1024x768. Therefore my conclusion is that 1300x867 is an odd size that may not lend itself to desktops well.
- xxTazxx, on 06/04/2008, -1/+1And I hope the goat likes it.
- xxTazxx, on 06/04/2008, -1/+1I hope you have sex with a goat.
- xxTazxx, on 06/04/2008, -1/+1I can do one of two things. One, take my time to prove you wrong for all your *cough cough* "FACTS", or alternatively, tell you to ***** off.
Guess what?
***** off. - inactive, on 06/03/2008, -0/+0cool explanation.
- mikeblur, on 06/03/2008, -0/+0Did you click all the way to the picture itself? It's 1300x867. Plenty big enough for almost all desktops.
- ericnorris1, on 06/04/2008, -2/+1First of all, i didnt even know what your point was for like 5 mins of reading, i guess im desensitized to this racist *****. Seriously, whats with so much racist spam? What is trying to be accomplished? Second of all, ***** off u little ***** nine year old who got beaten up at school. Just because u suck the fattest dick of all, your dads, doesnt mean u have to offend those who did nothing. Go the hell away.
- Roget, on 06/04/2008, -2/+1Did they use a star filter?
- SeaweedWater, on 06/03/2008, -5/+1That's way creative of you.
- inactive, on 06/04/2008, -6/+2OMG! ASTRONOMY MAKES ME CREAM MY PANTS
