Super Black Holes: NASA mission seeks new laws of physics
dailygalaxy.com — The Gamma Ray Large Area Telescope (GLAST) is an astounding mission to explore the most extreme environments in the universe, search for signs of new laws of physics, what composes the mysterious dark matter, and secrets found in gamma ray explosions.

- trystero49, on 06/13/2008, -2/+5I feel even smaller now.
- BigManOnCampus, on 06/13/2008, -3/+3I think the scientists/engineers chose GLAST for the humor/rhyming possibilites. Don't ever think they don't do that.
- shakbhaji, on 06/14/2008, -0/+25This kind of stuff is so fascinating to me. Astronomy, theoretical and applied astrophysics, and theoretical physics are all things that I don't think I have the patience (or sheer brilliance for that matter) to study for a living, but I really enjoy reading the dumbed down versions of the research findings. String theory, its offshoots, and other related fields are a particular favorite of mine. I got sucked in by "The Elegant Universe."
Dugg for the very imaginative, descriptive language in the article.- hydriplex, on 06/14/2008, -0/+3I agree with absolutely every word you said. I wish I could digg you up multiple times.
- stargazer0966, on 06/19/2008, -0/+0I agree with every word you said too!!!!!!!!!!!! I just LOVE Astronomy don't you but i mean it's so hard to understand and it stinks because most of my friends don't have the patience to even listen to me and say, "I lost you when you said supernova" and also when they say, "Astronomy stinks" but some how i just love it no matter what they say and i wish everyone was that way!!! So i TOTALLY agree with you!!!!!!!!!!!

Try harder next time.

- Hoofenhoffer, on 06/14/2008, -7/+2O hey, look! A super black hole......
It's a trap! - Zaneris, on 06/14/2008, -1/+3It's amazing really, about 10 years ago I received a book from my uncle called "Black Holes and Time Warps" that took a fictional journey to the centre of the galaxy to examine this very thing at the beginning of the book; and now, here we are, sending out spacecraft to make it all reality.
Who says science isn't worth the few pennies of our tax dollars that goes toward it?- USB2point0, on 06/14/2008, -6/+2the ever rising cost to live and move

- stargazer0966, on 06/19/2008, -1/+0Yes it does happen to be SUPER MASSIVE! the super massive black hole has a magnitude between 10 to the fifth power and 10 to the tenth power solar masses! and a stellar black hole has only 20 or more solar masses which is a lot smaller! they are said to be at the center of every galaxy but that has not been proven.
- StevesJobs, on 06/14/2008, -2/+4super /massive/ black holes??

- MattNF, on 06/14/2008, -2/+2Is it just me, or do comments on space-related articles suck ass?
- hpfreak26, on 06/14/2008, -1/+4Agreed. I think it's because nobody knows what the hell the article means.
- kbro, on 06/14/2008, -0/+4Agreed. I think it is because one cannot engage in flame wars over real science.
You cannot interject your political, economic, or religious beliefs into a science discussion without immediately losing your audience's respect

- dexedrine, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6One popular "sudden extinction" theory is that such a burst has happened within range of our own galaxy, but because the lethal gamma radiation moves at the speed of light, the first evidence we could 'detect' would be everybody and everything dropping dead.
Awesome!!!! - CMuffa, on 06/14/2008, -1/+1I didn't read this article...is it about Oprah or Robin Quivers? Hoo-hoo
- mydave, on 08/13/2008, -0/+0Space is really very interesting thing. and every time I wonder looking pics and reading news. And of course every time looking in stars or in moon something happened with me. Nice article. thank you!
