    The blue hue around the sunset could have been caused by a different degree of Rayleigh scattering by the Mar's atmosphere. It's the same phenomenon behind our apparent blue sky.

    Like, it is on mars for starters, the sun is visible and it is so much smaller then what we look upon here on earth, yet it lights up so much of the surface. The picture is ghostly, vast dead plains but still the sun shines over it.
