- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+44You shouldn't SleepJunkie, it destroyed New Zealand when it entered the atmosphere.
- da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34if you look very closely you can see them filming LotR 4-7

- Torx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19makes a perfect desktop background too.
- Satanael, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I would be scared out of my mind if I were an astronaut.
- maledei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14but what do you do when your nose starts itching? I would go mad!
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Where are the stars man?!?! WHERE ARE THE STARS!!?
*puts on tinfoil hat* - Satanael, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19RTF...Description?
- jacobmiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11More information about the mission:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STS-116 - harmlessinc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I need a bigger monitor for this, the laptop screen just isn't doing it justice.
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I think that when you are up in space, you dont REALLY understand how high up you are. I know im afraid to be 6 feet off the ground, but i have no problem with airplanes.
- cheez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13.gov has all the bandwidth they want, they will never get the digg effect
- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10by dropped the camera, you mean let go right?
- audiofish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@maledei
Aparently they put a little strip of the scratchy side of velcro on the inside of their helmets so they can poke their nose forwards and itch it on that =D - KillerLettuce, on 10/12/2007, -15/+24A-freaking-mazing. That is seriously some of the coolest ***** out there.
- ardos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Yes that's New Zealand in the back ground. Top of the south island to the left and the bottom of the north island to the right if you look close you can see me standing next to my sheep at the top of the south island cheer bro !
- scribles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@ Satanael
i'd be scared out of my mind if you were an astronaut too - Torx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7more! theres a couple that will make you dizzy
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlemissions/sts116/multimedia/fd6/fd6_gallery.html - asspants, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11....or just another peice of the puzzle that proves that we've never been to space, and never been to the moon and it's allways just been camera trickery, sets and cgi?
- Jayphen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Ahh, that explains the white fluffy masses..
- smoaky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6First swede in space. Props Sverige.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ac/STS-116_spacewalk_2.jpg - omnithought, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I wonder if these guys have to fight off the urge to just let go and float alone above the planet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You can see the ISS from Earth without magnification, with magnification, you can make out detail. Seeing is believing.
- epalla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4excellent photo. It seems like the space suits haven't really changed in quite a while. Still really bulky and ungainly. Of course, I see a lot more of hollywood space than real space :)
- Yetimon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5:) I can almost see mine - hidden by the antenna thing. Thanks for my new desktop image.
- general13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Now if only we could find some way to fuse hi-res pictures of the Earth, and....Google! Then we'd have a winner!
- kuyakew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wow thats pretty cool. nice view of middle earth.. i mean new zealand
- waddling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Yes it is NZ. Hey! I can see my house from here.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It makes a beautiful and dizzying desktop image.
- rheaume, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5FINALLY!
Nasa really needs to work on their PR skills but these kinds of photos give me wood, the resolution is just wicked, this is nice, more please! - chungthomas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3me too. I think the comp isn't the nicest (well they are astronauts after all, not pro photographer). but the color and sharpness is simply amazing!
- rustybones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Whoa ***** I'm going back to the lower left of that shot on Saturday. A great photo of home, it helps that I've traveled all the parts of NZ in that shot too :)
- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@general
Larry, is that you? - testdrivemedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah i live in christchurch. This image was on the front page of The Press this morning.
Cheers NASA, for the new desktop image :) - loconet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How about this one:
http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/165485main_image_feature_720_ys_full.jpg
He looks a bit scared. - muzzleface09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I live in Marlborough, NZ. It's blocked by the big clouds above the astronaut facing the camera. Cool!
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm surprised that nobody started the obligatory conspiracy story about this photo and the entire space program being fake.
Epic photo. Looks great on my iMac.
Those guys are so goddamn fortunate to be up there and see those sites.
Think about the view 180degrees from this perspective. Endless blackness with pinhole points of light. Awesome. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Might it be a reflection of the ISS as well, he is looking at it afterall? You can see what appears to be a reflection of the sun in it as well. Take a peice of glass outside during the day and look at it, might you also see yourself on it, besides the sun? Thought so.
And which black edges do you see exactly? I see none.
Of course we've never been to space, those shuttles just disappear and reappear whenever NASA wants them to.. - iamafatguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They should have sent a poet.
- ruded0g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2very nice, now if they only could use this camera when taking shots of the shuttle on the pad we could truly have even more HD images for our desktops.
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When are they coming out with an HD IMAX NASA movie?
- bigstinky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hello, Swedish astronaut dude! Can you imagine how much that 'thing' 'ol Sverige is holding cost to make? Excellent photos. It's cool to see their suits and equipment up close.
- detonate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Awesome! I can see my house from there - lower left hand corner.
- madchemst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's a really beautiful shot. Thanks for submitting it :)
- DolphinGL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dugg for great justice!!!
Hello HD wallpaper. - rednesss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a very sobering feeling to be up in space and realize that one's safety factor was determined by the lowest bidder on a government contract.
Alan Shepard - dd240sx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that is one sweet photo
