- escottberg, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4let's just get that thing launched already (though of course, not until it's safe to do so)!
- spriggig, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4In 1979 at the start of the program, the Shuttle was projected to cost 18 Million per flight (in today's dollars) but actually costs 1 Billion per flight.
I think they've gotten much more realistic in their projections in recent years, but the lesson remains--space exploration is very expensive. Nonetheless, when compared to Bush's Folly, we get a lot more bang for the buck in space exploration. - FOR3MAN, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4Who launches themselves into space, that is sooo last century. Where the ***** is my transporter, we got the cell phones done but no transporters.
Someone dropped the ball.
/s - DeskFlyer, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3Why do space related threads always have the most retarded comments?
- BobSagetFan, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3I wonder if David Braymer and Cheral Baskel are upset they aren't going to see the launch. At least the launch is not on Halloween, everybody would be really suspicious if it was.
- mikemehak, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3this will give me plenty of time to put fresh batteries in the remote.
- shimwood, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Damnit Stormy! I'm gonna tell Capt. Murphey about this!
- hybridcreation, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2I was going to go down and watch the launch, but had to change my plans. So this isn't terrible news for me.
- oda1, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Oh... not the Billie Holiday record?
- protodon, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3Does it ever launch the first time anymore?
- fjacky66, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Every thing would be ok if they only had....CUBE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aGDCE6Nrz0 - Nothlit, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Rainstorm != thunderstorm. A thunderstorm implies lightning. While on the pad, the shuttle is protected from lightning strikes by an extensive grounding system. Once it launches, no such luck. If it were to get struck during the ascent, all sorts of systems could be damaged. Not to mention rocket fuel probably doesn't react very well to lightning strikes, either.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1They should install some windshield wipers on the shuttle.
- ShingoEX, on 07/08/2009, -0/+0Yet, planes are able to fly in such storms. Go figure.
Like I said, it should be built to withstand such forces. - drfoongoggles, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1It is tiiiiiime....
It is tiiiiiiiiime whoa-whoa
It is time...For stormy weather... - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -2/+2***** storms!
- weister42, on 07/09/2009, -0/+0We had the SR-71 Blackbird that can fly mach 3 in the 60s so you'd think the military probably already have something that can fly into space and back, they could at least leak one of their fusioncore magnaflux pulse-width thrustjet 9001 or something, friggin stingy bastards...
- brendonsmall, on 07/08/2009, -3/+3What else is new? :P
- ShingoEX, on 07/08/2009, -2/+1You would think something designed to survive re-entry through the atmosphere would be strong enough to handle a rainstorm.
Something to think about when NASA decides to design another spacecraft. - marlowned, on 07/08/2009, -6/+3I hope they find sexy aliens.
- Presbyterian, on 07/08/2009, -6/+1Oh no you mean I won't get to watch another booring Space shuttle Launch?.
God when do they retire those dinosaurs...
