( spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/shuttle/sts-123/html/iss016e032598.html ) - nahsrocketeer75, on 03/14/2008, -2/+6I had no idea that it opened up to that extent or in that way. Great pic.
- glasnostic, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4yeah.. that pic made me want to see the schematics of the shuttle
http://history.nasa.gov/SP-4225/diagrams/shuttle/s ...- 41k1d0k4, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2growing up in the 80s, we had lots of space shuttle toys. knowing too much about the "aircraft", and 'dieing' to go to Space camp was part of my childhood. I take it for granted now. damned gray hair.
- DoscoJones, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2You have gray hair? I watched Neil and Buzz go for their walk.

- oddball, on 03/14/2008, -2/+3who's the wise guy that put the Canada bumper sticker on the arm?
- tofuoni, on 03/14/2008, -1/+4the canadians - you know, the guys who made it.
- glasnostic, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4yeah.. that pic made me want to see the schematics of the shuttle
- Sornos, on 03/14/2008, -1/+4I'd like to see Dextre in action.
- captric, on 03/14/2008, -4/+3Who or what is dexter?
- Sornos, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1It's a big hand/tool/thing of beauty designed by Canada as an end effector to the Canadarm. It's the spidery thing in the middle of the image.
Oh and come on Digg. No need to bury a question.
- Sornos, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1It's a big hand/tool/thing of beauty designed by Canada as an end effector to the Canadarm. It's the spidery thing in the middle of the image.
- DontGiveADamn, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1What if Dexter turns into a killer robot and starts to rip the space station apart?
- captric, on 03/14/2008, -4/+3Who or what is dexter?
- n8o8, on 03/14/2008, -6/+5I hope we can restore the value of the dollar so that we can continue to fund this...the really important stuff. Amazing reminder of what we can do.
- OsiVert, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1The value of the dollar really doesn't have much to do with funding, since an American only sees the value relative to how they spend it. Even though the value of the dollar has gone down compared to other currency, you can still go to the 99 cent store and get the same stuff you got for 99 cents 6 months ago. NASA manufactures most of their own stuff, so any blame for lack of funding has to do with the government thinking this is not as important as other stuff.
- sourceholder, on 03/14/2008, -10/+3OMG, she's exposing herself!
- Ljiljani, on 03/14/2008, -8/+1Haha, digg me down for immaturity but that's the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the picture.
- freedomkeeper, on 03/14/2008, -0/+26I love the hi-res that's been coming from NASA lately.
- myranttoyou, on 03/14/2008, -7/+3At least this photo wasn't "AMAZING"
- burstaneurysm, on 03/14/2008, -0/+9Despite the size of the orbiter, this picture makes you realize how cramped the crew quarters must be.
- jeffk813, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Believe it or not there are actually two levels in the crew compartment.
- sharkd, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Yes, but the total useable volume is about that of a standard living room in a single-family home. Seven people have to share that space for up to four weeks (the longest on-orbit flight, so far, was 18 days).
- IamZed, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2That living room gets a lot bigger when you can use the walls and ceiling for floorspace.

- Sebach, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I guess it's actually just the 18-wheeler of spaceflight. Hm.
- jeffk813, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Believe it or not there are actually two levels in the crew compartment.
- twotimesthru, on 03/14/2008, -1/+7Is this space shuttle week on digg?
- conley, on 03/14/2008, -9/+1i am all for a good image but did NASA take over digg?
- styler5, on 03/14/2008, -2/+5it's been NASA week for a couple of months.
- pdevries, on 03/14/2008, -0/+7If anyone has NASA tv (DirecTV does I know) it's definitely worth a watch. Don't just look at the pictures of this, you can watch live as they install these modules. Today astronauts will wake up at 330pm EST and be working through the night.
I stumbled across the Dextre / Kibo extraction from the shuttle last night and got to sleep _way_ later than I had intended. - smilgy, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3are those solar panels on the inside of the hatch/doors
- jeffk813, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4No, those are radiators to help cool the interior of the shuttle.
- radink360, on 03/14/2008, -0/+7Im curious as to what those diagonal lines are in the atmosphere on the bottom left corner of the image.
- mal1964, on 03/14/2008, -3/+2Me to!
- glasnostic, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1also.. take a look at the corridor that appears as two parallel lines (top left at an angle) that continue under the wing and then across the entire image.
- burstaneurysm, on 03/14/2008, -1/+8Those are the wires holding it up in the soundstage.
- vroom101, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2I counted 32 short, equidistant lines that don't extend far. Perhaps it's a "plastic transparency" (overhead sheet) attached to the window or lens.
- bjs3171, on 03/14/2008, -6/+2are you saying Dexter is back on???
- ugmold, on 03/14/2008, -5/+0Its open...throw your money in
- peterkay, on 03/14/2008, -7/+3OMG, it's made in Canada.... Americans are doooooomed
- teh_techie, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2That's the Canadarm silly
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadarm- RogerStrong, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Dextre is made by the same people. As is the Canadarm2, already attached to the station.
- Elephant789, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1Canada is part of the Americas.
- teh_techie, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2That's the Canadarm silly
- gr00vy, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Someday, somebody is going to do a National Geographic Documentary about the photographer. You know the one who is nearby, in the hard to get to place, with a ton of equipment. But who is going to film *them*?
- seemsArtless, on 03/14/2008, -0/+10Great to see the Canadian flag there, go Canada!
- RogerStrong, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2That caused a kerfuffle when the Canadarm was first launched. There was all this video coming back from the mission, all of it with a prominent Canadian flag, and not an American flag in sight. That changed on the next flight.
- captric, on 03/14/2008, -6/+1This was a diplomatic decision to let Canada who has no real space program, to share in a little of the glory of space travel. The space shuttle and the space programs are all American in origin and Americans, being the benevolent sort of people they are, GRACIOUSLY allow Canadians to participate in a small way DESPITE all of the Anti - American sentiment that seeps from north of the border by ignorant and ill informed Canadians.
- RogerStrong, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Someone's got a chip on his shoulder.....
The launch services Canada uses are American. Except when we contract out to Russia (like the recently launched RadarSat), or the European Space Agency. Dunno if we've used Chinese launchers yet.
As for the *international* space station.....
The Canadarm on the Shuttle is Canadian built and paid for.
The Canadarm on the ISS is Canadian built and paid for.
Dextre is Canadian built and paid for.
The occasional astronaut is Canadian, with training paid for by Canada.
The Soyuz spaceraft the usualy transport ISS residents is Russian built, but often American paid for.
The same with the Progress freighters.
Some ISS modules are Russian.
The ATV freighters for ISS, one now in orbit, are European buit and paid for.
The new lab section is Japanese built and paid for.
The previous lab is European built and paid for.
The next lab is Japanese build and paid for.
Yet another lab, yet to be launched, is Russian built and paid for.
Etc.
Sorry to break this to you.- Elephant789, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1Dugg you up, but what does 'dunno' mean?
- captric, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2You sound like you are trying a little too hard to find something to be proud of.
- DoscoJones, on 03/15/2008, -2/+2And you sound like a whiny little girl. Go cry somewhere else.
- captric, on 03/15/2008, -1/+1No crying here, nothing to cry about. The Canadian Space Agency would not exist if it weren't for NASA. America have the educational, productivity, and Industrial base to support a Space Agency. Canada does not and like EVERYTHING in Canada, they will be totally dependent on the US. Even VIET ***** NAM has launched rockets.
- RogerStrong, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Someone's got a chip on his shoulder.....
- captainchris, on 03/14/2008, -0/+5it's called the INTERNATIONAL space station.
- MysticalMrBiggZ, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3Roger the 18 ton beer keg in the cargo bay. Party at the space station a go! Houston, we have a problem! Nobody has the tap!
- sovietamerica, on 03/14/2008, -16/+1another day, another nasa pic, another bury.
- bbqsalad, on 03/14/2008, -1/+9Another idiot. Another -1.
- lamprey187, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3yeah, they whine it is NASA week, Obama week, Ron Paul week........makes ya wonder why they visit digg. Maybe just to complain on the threads?? I never get tired of NASA photos. Just like I never get tired of Chewbacca !!!!!
- RogerStrong, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Another luddite, another bury.
- bbqsalad, on 03/14/2008, -1/+9Another idiot. Another -1.
- farrellj, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Great, I needed a new desktop image! Thanx!
ttyl - teh_techie, on 03/14/2008, -0/+6Nice to see the Canadarm in the photo!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadarm - bbqsalad, on 03/14/2008, -8/+1FAKE! Definitly photoshoped look at the lighting.
- DoscoJones, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Don't give up the day job.
- studdenfadden, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2Yeah NASA is faking photos of its own space shuttles now. Try thinking just a little bit harder before you post again.
This post is really ironic since you posted in another post "Tin foil hat moonbat truthers." Moron.
- 955701, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2I think I can see my house!
- IamZed, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1I hate the idea of giving this thing up and returning to pretty much the Saturn program.
