- iadiggs10, on 08/02/2008, -3/+51Private space travel, here we come!
- Dreath, on 08/03/2008, -1/+22Oops, it crashed. (The webcast)
- ryanjulian, on 08/03/2008, -0/+18In the launch word, anomaly is usually a euphemism for a catastrophic failure.
- psitech, on 08/03/2008, -2/+19LMAO their quicktime just crashed.
- gstlouis, on 08/03/2008, -0/+16"There was an issue in the separation stage. A glitch that resulted in the engine exploding."
Quote: https://twitter.com/tikitosca - huff51, on 08/03/2008, -1/+16there werent any flames coming out of the thing for the last couple seconds they were broadcasting
- legsthebass, on 08/03/2008, -0/+15Are some of you guys seriously being critical about their THIRD rocket not succeeding? NASA only blew up a dozen rockets and killed three people before we got to the moon AND it only cost $130 billion modern dollars. C'mon...give them some credit.
- sockpuppets, on 08/03/2008, -2/+16Launch is now delayed until 6:35 PST.
- sockpuppets, on 08/03/2008, -3/+16Preliminary report show the Pez Dispenser Module (PDM) had its neck stuck open. They're reloading the unit and replacing the head with Boba Fett for relaunch.
- sockpuppets, on 08/03/2008, -1/+13An anomoly is a lost/exploded rocket. It's a failed launch.
It's the Cuil of rockets. It pulled a pwnce. The webvan failed to deliver its groceries. It was powered by twitter's servers. The wordpress module failed under load. - prattmic, on 08/03/2008, -0/+12Now the website is down, I told them not to put the servers on the ship!
- sockpuppets, on 08/03/2008, -1/+12Did they hire these webcasters off of the street this morning? That woman seems like she should be on QVC instead.
- BlueVoid, on 08/03/2008, -1/+12More info on SpaceX: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpaceX
And specifically Falcon 1: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falcon_1 - brycehebert, on 05/03/2009, -1/+12This thing had an anomaly too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2BASlIgjTk - iadiggs10, on 08/03/2008, -0/+11Basically to put it simply, if it is successful this will be the first full launch to orbit of SpaceX's Falcon 1 rocket. They then plan to begin launch tests for their Falcon 9 rocket next year. While the Falcon 1 is a large rocket, the Falcon 9 is basically 9 times bigger. The neat thing about their rockets is that they are man-rated and are designed with servicing the International Space Station in mind. Eventually after the final flights of the shuttle they may take up the slack for NASA for a while. The best thing is that their rockets are lots (read: millions of $$) cheaper than rockets built by the old industry giants like Boeing and Lockheed and are just as powerful, so they have the potential to open space up to never-before attempted applications even for small companies.
- carnesm, on 08/03/2008, -0/+11Is it just me, or does the "Enable Complete" guy sound like Bill Clinton???
- Stucarius, on 08/03/2008, -1/+12This is a really important program. Maybe a lot of you guys do not understand but of all the private ventures this one has the most promise and that includes the great Virgin thrill ride. They really need to not have many major failures or they cannot keep going. If they lost his one hopefully they can still keep things going.
SpaceX is a really noble attempt at getting humanity into space and getting the government out. - Chairboy, on 08/03/2008, -2/+13Holy crap, that was a wild abort. Engines ignited, then shut off. It's fantastic that this wasn't fatal for the rocket, even their failures are impressive at SpaceX.
Don't know if they'll reset for another shot tonight, but I've got my fingers crossed for them. Space is tough, and I look forward to seeing them beat it. - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -4/+14And I will be DDOS'ing your blog
- psitech, on 08/03/2008, -0/+9It was funny how fast they went off the air. The chic kept smiling and glancing over to her right as if "what the hell do we do now?"
- wschalle, on 08/03/2008, -1/+10theres an anomaly
- Super6, on 08/03/2008, -1/+10I hope the rocket isn't running on the same Mac the webcast is on...
- chang3, on 08/03/2008, -1/+10Goddamn anomalies
- BZWingZero, on 08/03/2008, -0/+9It'll lower the cost of getting stuff to orbit by about a factor of 10. This is very significant and makes space travel affordable to almost anyone. It'll now be easier, for example, a student group to get a satellite to space for an experiment. Before about 95% of the cost was just to launch the satellite; with SpaceX and their Falcon rockets, it drops the cost to about 50% of the cost of the student project.
It makes getting stuff to space reasonably priced. - prattmic, on 08/03/2008, -1/+10One anomaly and they end the webcast? What they don't want to actually say they failed...again.
- znavy264, on 08/03/2008, -2/+11The anomaly was that they forgot to tell NASA it was launching....so the Navy blew it up....
- BZWingZero, on 08/03/2008, -0/+8They are actually carrying 3 paid satellites on this mission, including one for the DoD.
- prattmic, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9It must suck to be T- lady, sitting there for hours just reading off the countdown.
- biged123543, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9im thinking things didn't go so well
- chang3, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9So.... quicktime, the rocket, and the website.
Is anything not crashing at SpaceX? - iadiggs10, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9Oh no, I'm sure the front page won't do good things to their servers.
- psitech, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9They are having as much luck with their rocket as they are having with their mac.
- sockpuppets, on 08/03/2008, -2/+10The rocket at www.spacex.com is taking too long to respond.
The requested rocket did not respond to a connection request and the engines have stopped waiting for a reply.
* Could space be experiencing high demand or a temporary outage? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other planets? Check your connection.
* Is your atmosphere protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with vehicle launches.
* Still having trouble? Consult your rocket administrator or launch provider for assistance. - Super6, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9Quicktime failed on the rocket, they're clicking to retry
- bozozclown, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9Aborted at T-1 second ... they say they're gonna try again ... exciting stuff!
- Wartz, on 08/03/2008, -4/+12i am ROFLing at the Mac fanboys who always proclaim how stable and secure macs are
- hoffey, on 08/03/2008, -1/+8At least they didn't lose their million dollar payloads...
- JasonHilton, on 08/03/2008, -2/+9Screenshot of the quicktime crash, for those that missed it.
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/2273/picture5vb ... - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -2/+9So who wants to buy a ticket to outer space? That looked pretty safe!
- prattmic, on 08/03/2008, -0/+7That's an awfully big glitch.
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 08/03/2008, -1/+8They were just playing a video showing what the payload is and quicktime crashed, lol.
- XM3N, on 08/03/2008, -0/+7It was obviously a big disappointment not to reach orbit on this flight [Falcon 1, Flight 3]. On the plus side, the flight of our first stage, with the new Merlin 1C engine that will be used in Falcon 9, was picture perfect. Unfortunately, a problem occurred with stage separation, causing the stages to be held together. This is under investigation and I will send out a note as soon as we understand exactly what happened.
The most important message I’d like to send right now is that SpaceX will not skip a beat in execution going forward. We have flight four of Falcon 1 almost ready for flight and flight five right behind that. I have also given the go ahead to begin fabrication of flight six. Falcon 9 development will also continue unabated, taking into account the lessons learned with Falcon 1. We have made great progress this past week with the successful nine engine firing.
As a precautionary measure to guard against the possibility of flight 3 not reaching orbit, SpaceX recently accepted a significant investment. Combined with our existing cash reserves, that ensures we will have more than sufficient funding on hand to continue launching Falcon 1 and develop Falcon 9 and Dragon. There should be absolutely zero question that SpaceX will prevail in reaching orbit and demonstrating reliable space transport. For my part, I will never give up and I mean never.
Thanks for your hard work and now on to flight four.

http://www.spacex.com/updates.php - Super6, on 08/03/2008, -1/+8They should have gotten Kevin and Alex to host, these guys are boring. Who's with me on the first drunk rocket launch?
- parkermauney, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7The application quick time player has quit unexpectedly.
ahahaha - iadiggs10, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7Get a better Mac SpaceX! (their Mac they are showing presentations on keeps on crashing Quicktime)
- znavy264, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7"We are de-tanking"....I tend to do that sometimes after I eat.
- sockpuppets, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7Godspeed, Kal-Al.

Seriously sometimes wikipedia is unnecessarily precise with the status updates. - rYno, on 08/03/2008, -0/+6more news: http://www.spaceflightnow.com/falcon/003/failure.h ...
Lost aboard the Falcon was the U.S. military's Trailblazer satellite, two small NASA payloads and a cache of cremated human remains, including the ashes of astronaut Gordon Cooper and Star Trek actor James Doohan. - dhughes, on 08/03/2008, -2/+8 Uh an anomaly, meaning it blew up? Onboard video was lost at about 30km to 40km. Damn you nVidia!!!
