- marksmayo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+142I can see my house from here! (well almost). That space station would be the ISS. The photo was taken earlier this year over New Zealand, and the peninsula sticking out at the bottom left is Banks Peninsula, with the city of Christchurch just above that (my home town). On the North Island just behind that aerial mast you can see a port - that's Wellington, New Zealand's capital city.

/sarcasm - chattin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+71I wish I were an Astronaut.
- EuphopiaB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+62Don't worry, I printed it to make sure.
It's flat. - TenebrousX, on 10/10/2007, -7/+66That's no space station, that's a
oh ***** - HunterTV, on 10/10/2007, -5/+50"I studied hard in school, was called a dork more times than I can remember, had no life, missed my teen years and college parties completely... and now I'm flying around in space! WEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! SUCK IT BITCHES!"

- wafflesomd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28There are people in those suits, how crazy is that? I mean seriously.
- Thisisforkeeps, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28It would be wicked seeing you burn up during re-entry.
- Fracture98, on 10/10/2007, -5/+28Ok. All done. Who brought the batteries?
Anyone?
Oh crap. - arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Stupid kids.. get off the ***** internet.
- Aticper, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22I wish I lived in a world where calling yourself an 'astronaut' was as redundant as listing your profession as 'commuter'.
- IllBeBack, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20Space, the final frontier...

i wish i was a baller - JK1150, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17Don't know which space station? There is only one...
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15These are the voyages of the star ship Enterprise
- EgyptianVicker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12why does NASA always get the good cameras?
- Aticper, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14You wanna know something even more interesting?
They're falling at close to the speed of sound when that photo was taken. They just happened to be consistently falling at an angle that kept missing the earth.
It still looks serene, doesn't it? - RMoore08, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12since the Hubble is a Space station and all.....
- markwilcox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Dugg for NZ
- Cowfrommars, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I think the majority of the US don't even know what New Zealand looks like.
- repete, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11I wish I were an astronaut's girlfriend :( Wait...Hang on.
- geoboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8That's a myth, you know. A human body re-entering the earth's atmosphere would not burn up. I know this because I read it on the internet somewhere.
- KennMac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Actually, whether or not you would burn up depends entirely on how you got to "space". If you were in orbit, at 18,000 mph, you would never fall to the ground or re-enter because hey, you're in orbit. However, if you were dropped from the same altitude (100 miles) with no orbital velocity, you would not have enough speed to burn up. Re-entry would be much less violent than a spacecraft experiences. You would however reach insane freefall speeds as the lack of air resistance leaves you with no terminal velocity. You'd fall initially around 700-900 mph before the thickening air would slow you to about 150 mph where you'd reach your terminal velocity. There would be no "burning up" whatsoever though.
- brianbennett, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Coolest. Job. Ever.
- ashester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I would suck as an astronaut, i would look at an awesome beach below and just think to myself "why wait to go to the beach" *whoosh* *burn* *dead*
- Scaryclouds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I really like this picture, it's neat to see something both very close and very VERY far away in great detail.
- ZephyrNinety, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9If that were me, I would pee from up there.
- Tiphys, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Well I buried him because his question is answered in no less than the second comment posted to this story...
...speaking of abusing the system. - samadam, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Search for "HALO jump" for info.
- ghosttown80, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7They're going a hell of a lot faster than the speed of sound. They're orbiting the earth at around 22,000 mph, or 31 times faster than sound.
- vapblack, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8what about dimensions, time, and parallel realities
??? - arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Just so you know.. that "fake" ***** isn't even remotely funny.
- echostudios, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Damn, I lose to the first post for, "Hey that's NZ."

- SystemError, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6...or almost not
- KarmikTrance, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Dugg for how Trippy this picture is.
If you stare at the Astronaut in the suit facing the camera, and think "This man is absolutely motionless right now next to a motionless spacecraft, but in relation to me he is moving at over 22,000 Miles per hour.. faster than a bullet."
Or just get high and stare at the picture... - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Probably because the "where this is over" question was answered about 7 hours before csmanzarek asked the question.
- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -3/+7Really? I was getting to the fact that I didn't think it was a space station..
- Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Wicked indeed. You'd make quite the 'shooting star'.
- LordofShadows, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5You digg everything, so that doesnt mean much. ;o)
- KidKenosha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I think the majority of the US isn't even aware that there is a New Zealand.
- colinmhayes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4it's five year mission....
- KidKenosha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I wish I had a girl who looked good. I would call her!
- ajchavar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4a swing and a miss. . .
- kbro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I suppose Bush also killed your ability to think.
- OneLess, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah, particles of dust burn up spectacularly all the time, but human beings won't. Double digit Mach numbers generally aren't good for your skin.
