Short Gamma Ray Bursts Localized

apod.nasa.gov — What causes gamma-ray bursts? The most energetic type of explosions known in the cosmos has been an enigma since discovered over 30 years ago. It now appears that there may not be one unique type of progenitor. Long duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been localized, over the past few years, to blue regions in the universe rich in star formation.

    They are only about 7 miles across, the more massive they are the smaller they are and they can spin about their axis up to about 700 times per second!

    You would have to be traveling at half the speed of light to escape the surface and they have an atmosphere about a meter thick.
