- 4rp4n3t, on 07/29/2008, -0/+9That article is one of the worst written it's been my misfortune to read in a while. Buried though, for the misleading second paragraph:
"The total blotting out of the sun, which occurs when the moon's dark inner shadow falls on parts of the Earth, can only be seen in mostly remote places: the northeastern edge of Canada, the tip of Greenland, parts of Russia, China and Mongolia, including the famed Gobi desert."
It's only *this* eclipse that can only be seen from these places, not all eclipses, as the article suggests. - ApokalypseNow, on 07/29/2008, -0/+5No, he's not. He never talks about the subject of the article, except tangentially to his evangelizing.
This time, his flavor of choice is an appeal to personal incredulity about space flight - not surprising, since he has advocated the dismantling of NASA in the past:

- spiraltri3e, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2I saw one in Cornwal, which is *fairly* remote. Who looks stupid now, Professor Science?
- snverhallen, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Unfortunately I won't be in the arctic for that, but live internet streaming is interesting; but no where near as good as in real life!
- Neversoft, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1I was told that some of mild childhood antics would make me go blind as well, but it wasn't eclipse watching. Other possible side effects include hairy palms and a tissue drought.
- sysop073, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1That's like saying a traffic report claiming a road is going to be congested is ***** because 2 years ago you drove on that road and it was fine
- tonyDigger, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1I was never a fan of watching eclipse since I was told as a kid that one could go blind :)..
- dickeywayne, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1I once traveled to Nova Scotia to view an eclipse. Carly Simon wrote a song about it.
- jgzman, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1Right, in Turkey. Have you seen the path of this one? It's not gonna be anywhere near as convenient.
- sysop073, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1"To join Fienberg on a Russian icebreaker that includes a North Pole stop costs about $23,000."
Solar eclipses are cool and all, but $23,000? - WebWorker, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Here's an animation of the eclipse's path http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Solar_eclipse_a ...

Enjoy! - HerrWolf, on 07/29/2008, -0/+0We're still talking about the solar eclipse, right?
- RickyTheRiot, on 07/29/2008, -1/+0This is a ***** article. In 2006 I watched a perfect solar eclipse in Turkey, which for most Europeans isn't difficult to get to. In fact with modern air transport it's just as accessible to American's.
- kenrayd, on 07/29/2008, -4/+1Just think about it. Why does the starry moonless night appear so inviting and yet it doesn't seem that we will ever get beyond that satellite of earth in our current mortal humanity?
- kenrayd, on 07/29/2008, -5/+1Don't worry; if you love Jesus, once you get to heaven, the whole universe will then be available to visit.
