- thesonofdarwin, on 11/30/2008, -1/+116 *looks around* This isn't the Sports Illustrated or Muscle Cars forums... we were the nerds of high school. This is where we congregate. You are outnumbered here :)
- fuzzybeard, on 11/30/2008, -14/+73Remember that nerdy kid in school that everyone liked to pick on, especially the jocks? He (or she) is doing stuff like this now, in HAWAII! Bet you feel kind of stupid for picking on them now, don't you?
I know that I sure as hell do...*grumble* - Khast, on 11/30/2008, -3/+50Well, let's hope you have FIOS.....the single image would weigh in at 3.2GB.
- s0m31john, on 11/30/2008, -4/+43I wish people would stop judging cameras based solely on pixel count. There are other, more important, factors.
- FountainDew, on 11/30/2008, -0/+33So that when an asteroid comes hurtling down, we'll have a nice 3.2GB picture on our 19" monitor reminding us of imminent doom.
- rheaume, on 11/30/2008, -2/+31That used to be the case, then I started reading pages of comments from right wing christian fundamentalists that don't believe in evolution but own 10 guns, that's when I realized 'Deliverance' had come to digg, the internet as a 'nerd haven' has died.
- CosmicSombrero, on 11/30/2008, -2/+28I love my job :)
- Gunbard, on 11/30/2008, -1/+221.21 JIGGAPIXELS?!!
- xerograde, on 11/30/2008, -0/+21Not sure if this 13.4 Gigapixel video is legit, but it's impressive nonetheless:
http://tinyurl.com/5swaee - chaoswings, on 12/01/2008, -0/+21was anyone else expecting huge hi-res photos to look at?
- LeviTheSmith, on 11/30/2008, -0/+18Go ***** yourself
- ohcoaster, on 11/30/2008, -0/+16yes where? 1.4x3 =4.2 but that assumes no compression...
- boomchockalocka, on 11/30/2008, -0/+15E=mc²
- zjbird, on 11/30/2008, -0/+15The fact that you say "*grumble*" leads me to believe that you were the one getting picked on fuzzybeard
- JaredMcCammon, on 11/30/2008, -0/+14I prefer a more realistic sky:
http://www.samsolutions.co.uk/dizzy/images/backgro ... - cynic573, on 11/30/2008, -1/+15Alpha nerds would've scaled back a bit and built a 1.21 Jiggapixel camera.
- malanic, on 12/01/2008, -0/+12http://www.xrez.com/boston_giga.html
- fuhlavaflave, on 12/01/2008, -0/+12You like it when people slobber over their own dicks, eh?
- MiChuhSuh, on 11/30/2008, -0/+12Don't worry. What's more important, remembering a 2000th anniversary, or being there for 2000 comments and sticking with her? Any real website would understand that.
- shujin, on 12/01/2008, -0/+12as a camera salesman, i can not digg this up enough
all people, every day "I NEED A CAMERA WITH AT LEAST 10 MEGAPIXELS RAGUALGEAGL"
you are aware that that picture is about the size of 10 hi-def televisions placed side by side right? - davidbeile, on 11/30/2008, -0/+12Yes, they will.
But we'll get an amazing picture of it so people everywhere understand the magnitude of the situation at hand, in HD. - akchrs, on 11/30/2008, -1/+11I can't wait til one of my relatives get one of these and sends me an email with a 1.4 gigapixel attachment or their kids.
- LeviTheSmith, on 11/30/2008, -0/+10by the time the image downloads, you'll probably be dead.
- gregdigg, on 11/30/2008, -1/+11Why are you being dugg down? A story about amazing photos is lame without the actual photos.
- etherreal, on 11/30/2008, -0/+9Alpha Nerds would have equipped it with lasers.
- mesmeriffic, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9Aperture... Science.
- Zuwxiv, on 11/30/2008, -1/+101.4 gigapixels = 1.4 x 1024 megapixels = 1,433.6 megapixels.
There are 60 OTA's (8x8 grid, but the corners are gone) each with 64 CCD's. = 60 x 64 = 3,840 CCD's.
1,433.6 megapixels / 3,840 CCD's = 0.37333 megapixels / CCD.
That comes out to about 337,333 total pixels / CCD, or about a 611x611 pixel image on every CCD.
UNIMPRESSIVE. - whitesaint, on 11/30/2008, -1/+10Dugg for Bruce Willis.
- Jumba990, on 11/30/2008, -0/+9http://pan-starrs.ifa.hawaii.edu/public/project-st ...
Obviously not 1.4 gigapixel, but it's still nice to see what it can do. - JoeSamo, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7actually i think those kids are sitting at home by themselves playing video games whacking off to porn all day and probably into drugs because they had no motivation from everyone else picking on them for years
- burketo, on 11/30/2008, -2/+9where did you get that info?
- danconia, on 11/30/2008, -0/+7Oh and none of us ever want to pay taxes again. Ever.
- tnoy, on 11/30/2008, -2/+9As soon as we started to get our daily front-paging of a Cracked top-ten list, this stopped being the case.
- junskey, on 11/30/2008, -0/+6being a little nostalgic now are we?
- AmericanGunner, on 11/30/2008, -0/+6gigglepixels
- InfiniteNothing, on 12/01/2008, -0/+6When it comes to photodetectors, size matters.
- danconia, on 11/30/2008, -0/+6My relatives are way too computer illiterate to ever pull that off. But they sure do know how to forward conservative propaganda emails.
- 8bitflu, on 11/30/2008, -0/+5But do you drive a prius?
- TECHNEWSGUY, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5but can it make a call...
- Ericdigital, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Why would they compress it, what would be point of that many pixels if you plan on crunching them!
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4Did I leave my webcam on again?
- diggeek82, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4President: We didn't see this thing coming?
Dan: Well, our object collision budget's a million dollars. That allows us to track about 3% of the sky, and beg'n your pardon sir, but it's a big-ass sky. - LeviTheSmith, on 11/30/2008, -2/+6You guys may be interested in the 'Gigapxl Project'
http://www.gigapxl.org/gallery.htm - inactive, on 12/01/2008, -1/+5lol shutup nerd
- InfiniteNothing, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4What you don't like cropping bees out of pictures and making posters out of them?
- VirgilNilson, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4No, they aren't. They're still socially awkward and lacking in motivation and self esteem. It's more likely they're working some IT job and posting on Digg.
- InfiniteNothing, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4How hard is it to use the square root function on your calculator?
Square: ~37,417 px wide
Or in HDTV terms: 28,062P - harley999, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4http://pan-starrs.ifa.hawaii.edu/public/images-hir ...
