- glberns, on 01/04/2009, -1/+174notice the rock that was "walking" on the right side.
- stevenbrown, on 01/05/2009, -0/+82I put it into a pano viewer if anyone is interested:
http://www3.telus.net/b263252/sbrown/panoramas/dea ... - JamesBondJr, on 01/05/2009, -3/+77It would be a great background......but unfortunately I don't have a monitor that rectangular :(
- DaltonZ, on 01/05/2009, -5/+48A bit old and posted before, but an absolutely stunning image. This is the kind of sky you can see without the abundant light pollution around cities, even small ones.
The rock you can see in the foreground was moved without human intervention. In the winter, rain makes the surface just slippery enough for high winds, up to 90mph, to push the rocks, leaving a trail behind. - Fhwqhgads, on 01/05/2009, -0/+37I think I can see my home planet!

In case you want it as a wallpaper, and your PC hasn't the sense to stretch it properly - jarcaf, on 01/05/2009, -0/+33"The pilgrims used to ride these things for MILES!"
- TheVirus, on 01/05/2009, -2/+31Tripod + lots of separate images. You use software to 'stitch' them together and overlay each image to remove any lines. Normally, panoramic images are highly cropped because of angles and all that jazz, but this one is quite good.
- duewydo, on 01/05/2009, -0/+23I always wondered what the view must be like from the shuttle or space station. Since they are in space and can avoid the light pollution (on the night side of earth) So they must have a spectacular view of the starts right? All the imagery and video I have seen from space missions seem to have missed this key view. I mean sure the Earth is magnificent but it would be nice to get the same kind of perspective from space. Maybe a shot through the space shuttles cockpit window looking at the stars in space. of course with as much light emitting junk off as possible...
Anyone know of a shot like this (preferably in high res) that is already out there? - sdellboy, on 01/05/2009, -4/+26Space....the final frontier....

- JackpotCity, on 01/05/2009, -0/+17it may also be something to do with the fact that the photo was taken at night.

- tehShane, on 01/05/2009, -0/+12Maybe for those of you who live in the city. I live in a rural area of Australia, about 20km out of the nearest town and on a good night it looks very impressive.
- niradg, on 01/05/2009, -0/+11anyone else find it somewhat depressing that the night sky must have looked like this everywhere, every night before the invention of artificial light?
- Sumyunguy, on 01/05/2009, -0/+11better contrast...also not very much color at night if you haven't noticed
- ChaosProfessor, on 01/05/2009, -1/+12as can i right in the foreground

- amercer, on 01/05/2009, -0/+9Bahhh, bah bah bahhhhh, bah bah bahhhhhhhhh...
- braveryonions, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8Cropping doesn't stretch the photo, it cuts parts of it off...
- MazdaEric, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8metaphor - we are that square rock
- lofilotek, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8Rubber Ducky on the right hill?
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8Awesome, anyone looking at it don't forget to put it fullscreen, that thing bottom right and then the last button.
- ericmerrill, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8Thank you very much!
- garryw, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8stars dont twinkle in space
- hydroplane, on 01/05/2009, -0/+7Is there a word in Klingon for loneliness? Ah, yes: Gar-dacchk!
- wh3873, on 01/05/2009, -0/+7Stitching is one way to take a panorama, and for most people the easiest You can use a panoramic camera that is made to do this as well. Check out the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panoramic_photography

- BelatedHero, on 01/05/2009, -3/+10Old, but still awesome.
- AxsDeny, on 01/05/2009, -3/+10Small aperture, low ISO, and LONG exposure.
- SzymonStas, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6This photo is from 2007. Feels weird to say it but that's 2 years ago now.
- seanof, on 01/05/2009, -2/+8I doubt they were stitched because the stars would move while all the different exposure were taken and then they would not line up right.
- WesleyD, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6Negative ghost rider, the pattern is full...
- Fogdelune, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6The Milky Way was once viewed by humans as "The Backbone of Night"
